Actually, “no classes” doesn’t really mean there are no classes at all—it’s just that the teacher for that easy class doesn’t take attendance.
“I think this is the only wise decision the whole school ever made—putting the assessment courses up front and the exams at the end. Looking at it overall, it just feels like it’s always easy and relaxed, no matter when.”
Zhu Niao sprawled out on the sofa, stretching to her heart’s content.
Of course, this was thanks to the changes in her body. If it were her old self, back when she was a guy, no matter what she did on this sofa, it’d always feel a bit cramped and awkward.
Gou Yu, meanwhile, was sitting on a chair at the dining table in the living room.
He had just tossed the two jackets Zhu Niao had left in the living room back into her room, mumbling something about tidying up the house.
His fingers slid aimlessly across his phone screen, while his leg dangled off the chair and bounced restlessly.
He vividly demonstrated to Zhu Niao what it meant to be unable to sit still.
“Old Gou, if you need to pee that badly, you can go to the bathroom. I’m not in a hurry right now.” Zhu Niao looked at Gou Yu’s fidgeting and couldn’t help but speak up.
Gou Yu raised an eyebrow. “Is talking about pee and poop all you know how to do?”
“No.” Zhu Niao wagged her finger. “Usually, I can also talk about your mother.”
Gou Yu snorted with laughter, just about to say something, but then, as if he couldn’t help himself, glanced down at his phone.
As if there was some message he absolutely couldn’t miss.
Suddenly, the dim phone screen lit up, and Gou Yu snatched it up and leaned over.
It was China Mobile.
“Honestly, Old Gou, I feel like you’ve been acting weird ever since we came back from barbecue last night.” Zhu Niao gave him a suspicious look. “Did you…”
Gou Yu forced himself to turn toward Zhu Niao, trying his best not to show any sign of panic.
“Did you eat too much spicy barbecue and trigger your hemorrhoids again?” Zhu Niao’s comments always managed to catch Gou Yu off guard.
Gou Yu took a deep breath. “Didn’t you go with me to get them removed last year? It’s not like I’d win the lottery again so soon.”
“That’s a shame. I was hoping to send you to Chengdu and say you’ve got a real granular texture.”
The regret on Zhu Niao’s face didn’t look the least bit fake.
Before long, Gou Yu’s phone lit up again—this time, it was a message from someone else.
It was a familiar avatar, one that even Zhu Niao would recognize at a glance.
And it was the only contact in Gou Yu’s phone with the note “Younger Sister”—truly one of a kind.
Her message was only a single line.
[I’m heading out now.]
Gou Yu knew his younger sister well—she’d never send a warning like this just to give him time to run.
So the real translation of this message was: I’m almost there.
Gou Yu’s brow twitched sharply. He slapped his palm on the table and stood up.
The sudden movement and the loud bang startled Zhu Niao on the sofa so much she nearly slipped off.
As soon as she recovered, she tilted her head at Gou Yu.
Then she let out a sweet, adorable voice: “You’d better explain what you’re up to, or your mom’s assembly line won’t be enough for me to kill.”
Gou Yu’s expression didn’t change. He flicked a fifty-yuan bill out of his pocket.
“Go to North City and buy half a roast duck. I want roast duck.”
Zhu Niao’s face instantly bloomed with a smile as warm as early spring. “Sure thing, Young Master. I’ll bike over right now.”
Gou Yu shook his head. “No, the e-bike’s out of power. You’ll have to walk.”
The smile on Zhu Niao’s face froze. “You do realize how far that roast duck shop in North City is, right?”
Standing in her way was Gou Yu’s outstretched hand.
In it was a crumpled ten-yuan note.
Zhu Niao immediately brightened up again, humbly accepting the bill. “Understood, sir! What’s a little distance like this? Even if I have to crawl, I’ll bring back that roast duck for you, Young Master!”
Gou Yu’s face was expressionless—or maybe he just felt the pain in his wallet.
This was the solution he’d come up with last night.
Since he couldn’t handle Zhu Niao and his dear younger sister showing up at the same time, all he needed to do was send Zhu Niao away.
It wasn’t that he suddenly wanted roast duck, or that the e-bike was really out of power.
He just didn’t want Zhu Niao and his precious younger sister to meet, or he’d never be able to explain it.
Thankfully, Zhu Niao was easy to fool. Even sending her on a wild goose chase to waste time, a mere ten yuan was enough to send her off.
Even if that ten yuan was about all the cash Gou Yu had left.
Watching Zhu Niao hop out the door, disappearing down the little path, Gou Yu finally felt a bit more at ease.
As it turned out, his timing was spot-on. Not even two minutes after Zhu Niao left, a somewhat unfamiliar car slowly pulled up on the other side of the road.
On the back seat, the Store Manager, dressed in casual clothes, opened the door, tidied her flowing red-brown hair, and tossed Gou Yu a smile.
“Didn’t you say you’d just left the house?” Gou Yu stood at the door, smiling with his mouth but not his eyes.
“Aiya, the driver used to play QQ Speed, so driving a little fast is normal.” The red-brown-haired girl covered her mouth and giggled. “Weren’t you pretty quick to get ready, too, big brother? Already waiting for me at the door.”
After those two pointless lines, the two of them shared a couple of equally pointless laughs at the door.
“Bro, you’re still not planning to invite me in?”
“I wish you’d just turn around and go home right now.”
After saying that, Gou Yu took a deep breath, forced a smile, and waved her in. “Welcome, Young Lady, to my humble abode. It is truly an honor to be graced by your presence.”
A faint smile played at the corner of the girl’s lips.
She followed Gou Yu inside.
Then she suddenly stopped, pressing a hand on Gou Yu’s shoulder as he walked ahead.
“Wait a sec, bro.” Her face leaned in from behind. “Why do I smell something off?”
Gou Yu didn’t even dare to turn around. He could only glance at his dear sister out of the corner of his eye, her face wearing that same fake smile.
“What’s off?” he tried to act normal.
“Why do I feel like… I smell something else?” A distinct sniffing sound came from behind him. “Lavender. That’s not the sweaty stink I’m used to from you, and I feel like I’ve smelled it somewhere before…”
“Are you a dog?” Gou Yu’s expression nearly cracked. “That’s just my roommate’s new air freshener. Smells like this.”
“Oh? Your roommate’s got good taste. It’s light, and the scent lasts a long time. Make sure to send me the same one so I can buy it too.”
The girl clasped her hands behind her back, strutting around like a lion inspecting her territory. “By the way, your roommate’s really a guy?”
“Looking at this place, it doesn’t feel like two guys living together. More like a newlywed couple’s love nest.”
Cold sweat poured down Gou Yu’s face.
