Hati’s other team members understood the signal. Two of them cooperated by squatting down, stacking their hands over their knees.
“The rest of you stay here and deal with the remaining vampires. I’m going up!” Hati shouted her order.
With that, she took a running start and slammed her foot into her teammates’ palms.
The two members hoisted her together, boosting Hati high into the air.
The werewolf race’s exceptional explosive power allowed Hati to leap to an incredible height with ease. While mid-air, she performed a double jump, soaring straight toward Safina’s team high above.
“Protect the Lady!”
Several vampire warriors saw her and raised their weapons to intercept her.
Hati dodged their attacks effortlessly, circling behind them.
With a flick of her hand, sharp claws extended from the gaps between her knuckles. She swung a single hand, carving deep wounds into the warriors’ backs.
“Sorry about that.” Hati lashed out with a kick, using their bodies as leverage to continue her ascent.
Safina watched Hati intently.
It was her. This was the werewolf girl Lin Shu had seen that day, the same one who had handed Lin Shu the note.
Judging by her commands just now, she was the captain.
Safina drew her parasol and commanded the other warriors, “The rest of you scatter. Focus on the four remaining on the ground. Leave this werewolf to me.”
The vampires leaped off the carriage one after another. By then, Hati had already jumped to an altitude level with Safina, landing lightly on the roof of the carriage.
She gave a cheerful greeting. “Hi!”
Safina watched her stand on the horse’s back with bare hands, looking completely relaxed.
Hati reached out a small hand toward Safina. “You’re the vampire who wrote that little note, right? Hand over the key.”
“When meeting and greeting someone, shouldn’t you introduce yourself first?” Safina curved her lips into a smile, opening her parasol and resting it against her shoulder.
“Is fighting this much of a hassle for you demons?” Hati put her hands on her hips. “Fine. My name is Hati. My hobbies are…”
A red light flashed in Safina’s eyes. She swung her parasol forward, and a swarm of blood-shadow bats rushed toward Hati with a frantic *fluttering*.
“Hey, hey, hey, I wasn’t finished yet!” Hati leaped from her spot. She had just dodged one attack when another swarm of bats quickly closed in.
Hati took a deep breath and threw a rapid punch. A gust of wind from her fist shattered the incoming swarm of bats instantly.
Startled, Safina immediately retreated to put some distance between them.
This werewolf wasn’t without weapons; her limbs were her weapons.
Her opponent was an expert in close-quarters combat, and a single punch possessed that much power.
“Geez, why won’t you let me finish? My hobbies are eating meat and hunting.” Hati landed back on the carriage, her hind legs bending slightly as she braced her entire body. “Oh, and one of my favorite prey…”
She kicked off hard, closing the distance between herself and Safina at an unimaginable speed.
“Is vampires — !” Hati extended her claws, lunging for Safina’s face.
Safina jerked her head back. The sharp werewolf claws grazed her cheek. With a flick of her wrist, she elegantly blocked the rest of the strikes with the canopy of her parasol.
‘She’s so fast.’
Safina’s expression turned solemn.
After steadying herself, Hati looked up, her eyes brightening. “Huh?”
She sniffed the air, a look of surprise crossing her face. “You have the scent of a human on you?”
Safina’s heart skipped a beat.
‘Does she mean Lin Shu? Does she recognize Lin Shu’s scent?’
‘No, Lin Shu said she sent the message via a paper plane, which means they probably didn’t meet up close.’
Safina raised her parasol and smiled. “The scent of human blood? That’s hardly a rarity for us.”
“No, no, no.” Hati’s expression turned serious as she pointed at Safina. “It’s not the smell of something you’ve swallowed. It’s clinging to you.”
“You… have you been sticking very close to a human lately?”
At the mention of a human, Hati suddenly recalled the black-haired girl she had seen in the capital square that day.
At the thought of Lin Shu’s appearance, her wolf tail wagged vigorously. She seemed to be in an excellent mood.
Safina suddenly remembered that she had hugged Lin Shu before setting out.
‘Did I pick up the scent then?’
Safina laughed with practiced composure. “Haha, how could that be? In the eyes of a demon, humans are nothing more than food or slaves.”
Hati tilted her head slightly. “But I saw an exception a few days ago.”
“She had black hair and was incredibly cute.”
Safina knew exactly who she was talking about.
Seeing the excited way Hati spoke about Lin Shu, a surge of revulsion welled up in Safina’s heart.
‘I have to kill her.’
“That has nothing to do with me.” Safina’s smile deepened, but her eyes were cold. She summoned several thorns to lash out at Hati.
Hati reacted instantly, dodging the attack and charging forward.
Safina failed to see through Hati’s feint, and her arm was immediately slashed by the werewolf’s claws.
Hati didn’t pursue her right away. Instead, she lifted her blood-stained claws to her nose.
“Hehe, you know what? After our Demon Hunter Squad catches demons, we usually interrogate them to sniff out their leaders.”
Her nose twitched slightly, a look of realization appearing on her face.
“I can smell it. In your blood, there’s the taste of a liar.”
Hati’s tail stood up excitedly, her fur bristling. “You definitely know that human. She’s with you, isn’t she?”
The moment she finished speaking, Hati felt a terrifying pressure erupt from Safina.
“Are you angry? It looks like I hit the mark.”
Hati laughed even more happily. “Hahaha, fantastic! I’ve found you, and I’ve found that kid from that day. Once I’ve captured you, that kid can come with me.”
“In your dreams.”
In the next instant, Hati’s arms were ensnared by vines summoned by Safina, their venomous thorns sinking deep into her flesh.
Safina walked forward slowly, the tip of her parasol pointing directly at Hati’s throat. “It’s over. End your delusions.”
However, Hati wasn’t as immobilized as expected. She looked up at the night sky. “Don’t you demons always think the night belongs to you?”
“Take a look below, vampire.”
Sensing something was wrong, Safina snapped her head down to look.
Under the suppression of holy light and silver bullets, her ground forces had already lost more than half their numbers.
A massive circle of light enveloped the battlefield. That white light was as lethal to vampires as natural sunlight.
Countless silver-white crosses had been placed across the ground by the Demon Hunter Squad at some point, severely hindering the speed of the vampire warriors.
In the center of the light, an archer calmly loaded their weapon, firing at the surrounding vampires. Several corpses already lay around the edge of the circle.
“Sorry, but the people we sent this time are all specialists specifically trained to handle your kind. As for me… well, I can fight day or night, but tonight’s moon just happens to be very round.”
Under the glow of the moonlight, Hati’s muscles began to swell. With a sudden burst of strength, the vines binding her snapped into pieces.
Hati stood up, baring her sharp claws.
“The ones who are finished are you guys, hee-hee.”
She grinned, revealing two sharp canine teeth.
