“Ri…Richard Director…”
Faced with the sudden intrusion of the black-haired, glasses-wearing man, Keti, who had remained composed until now, immediately stood up straight and nervously took a deep breath.
N-No…there was really no other way.
Keti didn’t want to be so cowardly, but unfortunately, the Richard standing before her—about the same age as Lynn, around twenty-seven or twenty-eight—was the youngest Director of the Teaching Department at the Magic Academy, and thus Keti’s direct superior.
His cold and stern appearance, combined with a serious personality that never smiled, made Keti feel a little intimidated deep down.
Whenever other colleagues talked about him, they did so with trembling voices.
Since joining, the silver-haired beauty hadn’t dared to say more than a few words to him and had only barely met him twice, enough for him to know that she was a new assistant teacher at the school.
Moreover, for some unknown reason, every time Keti met Richard, she always felt that the way he stared at her carried a trace of displeasure and…disdain?
This made Keti constantly doubt herself—wondering what she had done wrong, because she hadn’t done anything, yet it felt like she had somehow offended him.
But…in the current situation, it wasn’t without reason.
Keti originally thought that if a parent came to the school to find a teacher, they would come directly to her.
She hadn’t expected them to come straight to her superior.
Click, click, click.
This, this…this was a bit frightening!
She was absolutely confident she could handle this problem well, but if Richard was involved, things would definitely get complicated.
What now…how could she explain this to her superior?
Would a bell help?
…Probably not.
What should she do, what should she do…
Seeing the girl stand up in panic, her guilty, awkward smile on her face, Richard’s expression darkened to an extreme degree.
After a moment of frowning, before the girl could explain herself in front of everyone, he sharply addressed her: “BR…”
“Uh…okay, okay.”
In the dim reception room, Keti felt embarrassed, as if she were a criminal being interrogated.
On the sofa opposite her sat a middle-aged woman full of resentment—likely Ximon’s mother—and beside her, a stern-looking, burly blond man who must be Ximon’s father, the Merchant Guild President.
The two angry people didn’t even wait for Richard to pour tea out of courtesy before launching straight into an attack on Keti.
First, Ximon’s Mom jumped up in a rage, trying to grab Keti by the collar, shouting angrily: “You’re just an assistant teacher at the school. How dare you hit my precious son?”
“I don’t even dare to hit him at home, you filthy, filthy bitch! You…you beat him like that! How dare you? What if you seriously hurt my son? I want the school to expel you, then throw you in prison!”
“Joyna, calm down…”
Perhaps out of concern for noble dignity, unwilling to escalate things with violence at school, it was Ximon’s Dad who held back the furious woman, preventing the silver-haired beauty—who was frightened out of her wits—from jumping behind the sofa backrest.
No, just speak—questioning is one thing, but how can someone suddenly try to physically attack you?
Those long fingernails reaching out felt like they wanted to strangle her.
That didn’t seem like a noble lady’s behavior at all.
Whew… however, Keti could tell that Ximon’s bratty personality probably came from this fierce lady’s overindulgence.
Still shaken, Keti took a deep breath.
After a moment, she looked at Ximon’s Dad, whose expression was grim and whose eyes revealed a fierceness that was even more intimidating.
Though he stopped the violent outburst, it was clear he was a more rational and difficult opponent.
“Miss Keti…you must understand why we’ve come to find you at the school. On Saturday night, our son Ximon came home crying, telling us he was severely beaten.”
“What shocked us was that the person he identified as the culprit was you, his assistant teacher and homeroom assistant for his class.”
“A teacher publicly beating a student outside of school, and seriously injuring him at that—that is unforgivable! This is a failure of a teacher! The school has also failed! Today, the school must give us an explanation!”
“Mr. Edward, Mrs. Joyna, please don’t be so anxious. I will find out the truth, and if it’s unacceptable, the school will certainly handle it accordingly. So…Keti, did you injure Ximon?”
Director Richard set down the two freshly poured cups of tea, then fixed Keti with a cold, piercing stare.
The silver-haired girl suddenly broke out in a cold sweat…
Damn it, she had already prepared what to say to Ximon’s parents, but now that her superior was standing beside them, questioning her alongside them, the pressure surged all at once.
“Uh…y-yes, it was me. Ah, but it’s not really me, it’s just…uh, that…”
Originally shy and socially anxious, the girl now completely froze up, stammering and unable to speak clearly.
This made Ximon’s parents even angrier, feeling as though she was playing them for fools. Richard’s eyebrows furrowed further, as if about to lose patience with her.
Click—
No, this won’t do!
Come on, where’s the courage you had the day you beat Ximon?
Uh…
Although that day she acted out of impulse because the brat was so infuriating, getting carried away in the heat of the moment, but when cleaning up the mess, she needed to have a bit of courage too!
No worries, no problem.
Just say what you planned before.
At worst, she still had a trump card.
Snapping back to her senses, Keti took a deep breath, patted her face, and resolutely decided to say something.
“That’s right, it was me! But…the beating was something Ximon asked for himself! That night, he was acting crazy in the tavern, mocking everyone there, threatening my friend and her child’s safety to provoke me, and finally he stuck his face right in front of me and demanded I hit him!”
“I only acted out of the intention to teach that brat some character. He even fought back after, but I defeated him and went over everything with him afterward. I think…this should count as a form of ‘love education,’ or practical training, if you will?”
With newfound courage, the silver-haired girl immediately regained her momentum.
Crossing her arms and looking firmly at the three people in front of her, she first explained the cause and effect of the incident, exposing that Ximon was the one who started the trouble, undermining their moral high ground.
Then, she deliberately downplayed the nature of the matter, insisting that her actions toward Ximon were “love education.”
Then Keti sighed and, taking advantage of the stunned silence from Ximon’s parents, continued: “Do you two know what kind of state Ximon is in at school right now?”
