“You… then you… go on by yourself… I can’t do it anymore…”
Mo Qingqing sprawled inelegantly across the white jade stairs, looking up in despair at the remaining eight hundred steep steps, giving up entirely.
“Then Master… I’ll head out first?” Su Yun blinked and whispered tentatively.
“Go… just go… don’t mind me…” Mo Qingqing waved her hand weakly, as if shooing a fly.
She swore in her heart that once she became a Sovereign, she would definitely hunt down the bastard who suggested climbing the mountain on foot and whip him like a spinning top!
Su Yun glanced back several times at her master’s undignified back before turning around, smoothing her skirt, and hurrying upward.
The teaching area for low-level mages was not far away; it felt more like a primary school for enlightenment.
Pushing open the carved doors, a wave of heat mixed with screams rushed toward her.
Su Yun’s lip twitched as she looked at the chaotic scene before her.
Inside were children no older than twelve, running all over the place, their energy as wild as a pack of untamed monsters.
This feels… a bit troublesome…
Although Mo Qingqing had repeatedly exhorted her not to be a coward and to stand tall.
But…
Su Yun looked at the toddlers who were about the same height as her.
Well… bullying these brats felt a bit like an unfair victory, and even carried a hint of guilt…
“Wow! So pretty!”
“So soft… I want to touch it…”
Before Su Yun could figure out how to face them, she was surrounded.
A group of children swarmed her like they had discovered a new continent. Careless little hands immediately grabbed the fluffy tail hanging behind her, and a few bold ones even stood on tiptoe to reach for her fox ears.
Almost all the children approached with glowing green eyes, like cats smelling fish.
“It hurts…”
Su Yun sucked in a breath of cold air.
“Don’t… don’t pull…”
These little brats who didn’t know any better…
Su Yun scrambled to push them away, but she didn’t dare use too much force for fear of accidentally snapping someone’s arm.
But there were simply too many people, coming in wave after wave like the tide.
A trace of irritation inevitably welled up in Su Yun’s heart.
Combined with Mo Qingqing’s “Don’t embarrass me”…
She really wanted to directly release “Overlord’s Presence” to intimidate these rowdy kids.
But… if she failed to control the intensity and scared them senseless or made them wet their pants, that would also be a huge hassle.
Just as she was caught in a dilemma and on the verge of exploding.
Whoosh—!
A gentle breeze drifted in from thin air; though soft, it carried an irresistible force, pushing the children surrounding Su Yun away like falling dominoes, gently yet firmly.
“You’re not allowed to bully people! Where are your manners!”
A crisp, feminine shout rang out.
A girl with fiery red hair tied in playful braids on both sides was standing on a desk.
She had a pair of small, exquisite, furry round ears. Right now, she stood with her hands on her hips, pointing a small finger at the group of brats, shouting aggressively.
Chu Yu’er, the biological daughter of the original owner of the space.
Some of the more timid children were clearly startled by this sudden magic, shrinking their necks and beginning to retreat.
But a few of the usual “kings of the kids” were unconvinced, turning around with flushed faces to confront her.
Su Yun, finally liberated, hurriedly protected her poor tail and looked toward Chu Yu’er.
Based on the other girl’s signature round ears and the large, ring-patterned tail behind her.
She could roughly guess that this was a little raccoon.
Aside from Chu Yu’er, there were a few scattered demi-human children in the classroom.
They didn’t come over to grab or grope like the other children.
Having tails themselves, they naturally knew how much it hurt to be roughly pawed and pulled.
Seeing Chu Yu’er step forward like a big sister, they silently walked over and stood behind her.
The two sides faced off across the aisle, the air thick with tension, as if a fight might break out at any second.
Suddenly, a lazy yet majestic voice broke the deadlock.
“What are you all doing? Planning a rebellion on the first day?”
“Save that energy! If there’s ever another great war, go vent it on the enemy on the battlefield! Your fur hasn’t even grown in properly yet, what do you think you’re doing? Huh?”
A male wizard wearing slightly loose robes and heavy glasses frames perched on his nose walked in.
He held a thick book in his hand, his eyes reflecting a weariness that said, “I knew this would happen.”
This was a multi-school wizard.
A type of research fanatic who wasn’t interested in positions of power but was obsessed with analyzing magical truths.
Calling people like them—whose raw power might not be top-tier but whose theoretical knowledge was extremely rich—to be enlightenment teachers was simply perfect.
“Teacher, my fur is fully grown…” Chu Yu’er shook her fluffy tail somewhat indignantly, showing off her smooth and shiny fur.
The wizard pushed his glasses up and gave her a sharp roll of the eyes.
“That’s not what I meant… Enough, no more backtalk. Everyone sit down, now!”
He looked around, his tone sharpening slightly. “Don’t cause trouble for me. I’ve already received permission from your parents. If you really won’t listen, I am allowed to spank you.”
“Oh…”
Upon hearing they might be beaten, the children’s previous bravado instantly vanished. They became as well-behaved as quails and hurried to find their seats.
Su Yun also took advantage of the chaos to find a corner seat.
Originally, she had wanted to sit in the front row to listen properly, after all, she needed to act a bit more “confident.”
But looking down at her conspicuous blue and pink outfit and ornate dress, she felt it was too eye-catching.
Demi-humans were already rare, and someone like her was practically at a legendary “shiny” level.
To avoid being stared at like a rare animal again, she ultimately chose the most inconspicuous corner in the back row.
Anyway, with her vision, she could see the dust on the blackboard even from hundreds of meters away; it didn’t matter where she sat.
Standing on the podium, the wizard looked at the group of little runts sitting crookedly below and couldn’t help but sigh deeply, feeling his hairline recede another millimeter.
He felt that with his knowledge, he should be teaching mid-level mages about arcane models or explaining planar theory to high-level mages.
Instead of being a nursery director here, looking after a bunch of pint-sized kids.
These little brats barely knew a few words and didn’t even know what a magic circuit was. What could he teach? Teach them how not to wipe their snot on their sleeves?
“Since you’re all seated, I won’t waste words. I’ve prepared a diagnostic test for you. Everyone, fill it out. I want to see how many words you know and what your foundation is like.”
As he spoke, he gave a light flick of his finger.
Countless spots of light flew out, and exam papers smelling of fresh ink “grew” automatically from the desks in front of everyone, like plants sprouting.
A quill pen grew along with them.
An exam on the very first day…
Looking at the blank test paper before her, a helpless, bitter smile inevitably appeared on Su Yun’s face.
What was with this hateful sense of familiarity?
In a daze, she felt as if deep in her memories, ten or twenty years ago on that blue planet, she had experienced something like this.
Was it middle school? Or high school?
She couldn’t remember; those memories were buried too far in the past.
Or maybe… this kind of torturous thing existed in every grade of every world?
Su Yun picked up the pen and scanned the paper.
The questions… weren’t hard. They were all basic common knowledge questions.
But she… didn’t know how to write at all…
Being able to recognize some was already quite good.
Writing and such… it was just too difficult…
How embarrassing…
She finally endured until the papers were collected.
Su Yun handed in a paper that was almost entirely blank, except for her name written in crooked strokes.
The wizard merely scanned all the papers with his spiritual sense. He didn’t give grades or publicly criticize anyone, but his brow furrowed even tighter.
“Alright, I have a general idea of your average level…”
The wizard rubbed his temples, a headache brewing.
“Then we shall start from the most basic Common Tongue spelling and daily vocabulary. For other questions, you can come find me individually after class…”
Hearing this, Su Yun slumped onto the desk, the look of helplessness on her face deepening.
The dull sound of the lecture, the tap-tap-tap of chalk hitting the blackboard, and the sunlight streaming in through the window.
It felt even more familiar…
If she didn’t look at the classmates with furry ears and tails, and if she didn’t look at the quills floating on the desks.
It was almost as if she had traveled back in time to a language arts class…
