Those out-of-control Weirdness were still in pursuit.
The most troublesome ones were several Weirdness that could spray pus, constantly splashing acid toward the bicycle.
The front wheel was the first to give out.
The rubber was riddled with holes from the acid’s corrosion, the surface giving off fine wisps of white smoke as it was eaten away.
A sharp, burning pain shot through White Night’s legs.
The tires corresponded to the legs of her soul body.
The moment the front tire blew, her left leg felt as though it had been doused in boiling oil. The pain made her soul body tremble.
The blowout caused the bicycle to jolt violently.
Metal rims ground directly against the pavement, letting out a piercing screech. With every shard of stone she crossed, the entire bicycle shook uncontrollably.
The invisible force securing the two Aunties to the back seat was also weakening. Su Shuang’er’s body slipped, nearly falling off.
White Night gritted her teeth and steadied the frame.
She kept charging forward.
The rear tire began to smoke as well.
The area where the acid splashed was rapidly festering. The rubber softened and cracked, peeling away in layers.
White Night’s right leg began to ache too.
It felt as though someone were forcibly peeling the skin from her leg, from her ankle all the way to her knee.
She was nearing her limit.
Her speed was dropping.
The snarling of the Weirdness behind her grew closer and closer.
“Leave us behind.”
A voice came from behind, so weak it was almost inaudible.
It was Mu Yingying.
She had woken up at some unknown point, slumped over the back seat. She didn’t even have the strength to lift her head, but her mouth could still move.
“Little bicycle… you can’t go fast carrying us… leave us behind… you can make it out on your own…”
“Little White Night, go.”
Su Shuang’er’s voice also rang out.
She sounded even weaker than Mu Yingying, each word squeezed out of her throat with effort, yet there wasn’t a hint of hesitation in her tone.
“Don’t worry about us; leave on your own. You have to live.”
“That’s right, little bicycle. Listen to Frost, run…”
Mu Yingying echoed her, her voice trembling.
“You’re still young; don’t be buried with two Aunties like us…”
Both were saying the same thing.
Leave us and save yourself.
White Night heard it all.
Her soul body emerged from the basket, the pink light shining with a blinding intensity due to her agitation.
For the first time, she lost her temper.
“Both of you, shut up!”
Her voice wasn’t loud, but it carried a firm resolve that brooked no argument.
The two Aunties fell silent instantly.
“No one is being left behind.”
White Night’s voice was shaking, but she spoke every word slowly and heavily.
“If we die, we die together. If we live, we live together.”
“I will never leave you.”
Silence.
Mu Yingying lay on the back seat, her face buried next to Su Shuang’er’s shoulder, her expression hidden.
But her shoulders gave a slight, faint quiver.
Su Shuang’er closed her eyes, her lips moving, but she couldn’t manage to say anything.
However, her hand slowly rose and rested on White Night’s frame.
No one spoke again.
White Night fixed her gaze ahead.
The Black Mist was thinning. Along the distant horizon, a faint sliver of Dark Red Moonlight was visible.
That was the edge of the Black Mist.
But she didn’t have enough speed.
The bicycle jolted more and more violently; every 1 meter forward felt like walking a tightrope.
The Weirdness behind were closing in.
It wasn’t enough.
If this continued, they wouldn’t make it out.
White Night looked down at her soul body.
Her legs were already semi-transparent, their outlines blurred. They were like paper burned by fire, edges curling and dissolving bit by bit.
‘What can I do? What else can I do?!’
White Night’s soul body began to change, fully merging into the frame.
She wasn’t just staying inside the bicycle anymore. She was pouring her Divine Soul completely into the vehicle.
It was like tossing firewood into a furnace.
Buzz—
The surface of the frame lit up.
A layer of faint white light seeped out from the cracks in the carbon fiber, like dawn breaking through gaps in the clouds.
The white light covered the entire bicycle—the handlebars, the frame, the rims—even the edges of the deformed basket glowed with a soft light.
The bicycle accelerated sharply.
The blown front wheel no longer skidded against the ground; it was as if an invisible force was lifting and pushing it forward.
The nearly ruined rear tire held together as well, not shattering in that critical moment.
The wind rushed past.
The bike went faster and faster.
The white light pulsed across the frame like a beating heart.
White Night could feel her soul being consumed.
The agonizing pain blurred her consciousness, but she didn’t stop.
The Black Mist retreated rapidly on both sides.
The Weirdness behind were left further and further in the distance.
The moonlight ahead grew brighter.
Wrapped in a layer of white light, the bicycle wobbled across the boundary of the Black Mist.
The moonlight spilled down.
It was still the Dark Red Moonlight unique to the apocalypse, but at this moment, its touch felt incredibly warm.
The white light extinguished the moment they exited the Black Mist.
White Night’s soul body floated out of the frame and shrank back into the basket.
She didn’t speak.
She simply looked down at herself.
The legs of her soul body, from the knees down, were mutilated beyond recognition.
The once semi-transparent outline had turned charred black.
Like charcoal repeatedly roasted by intense fire, the surface was covered in winding cracks. Some parts were even blurred—her soul itself had been damaged.
Combined with the burning of her Divine Soul to gain speed, the injury had worsened significantly.
White Night pulled her soul body deeper into the basket, using the edges to hide her lower half.
The bicycle came to a crooked stop less than 10 meters outside the edge of the Black Mist.
Mu Yingying strained with all her might to lift her head.
She saw White Night’s two ruined wheels, now severely deformed and mangled.
Mu Yingying’s eyes turned red instantly.
She opened her mouth, but her throat felt as though it were stuffed with cotton. It took a long time to squeeze out a few words.
“Little bicycle… how did you…”
Her voice broke.
Su Shuang’er also opened her eyes.
When her gaze landed on the scratches and cracks, her expression changed.
She reached out and gently touched White Night’s frame.
Her fingertips brushed over the pitted marks of corrosion, her movements as light as if she were stroking an injured child.
“Little White Night,” her voice trembled. “Your legs.”
White Night froze.
Su Shuang’er’s gaze fell into the basket, passing through the warped edge to see the charred, peeling remains of White Night’s soul body below the knees.
White Night instinctively tried to pull her legs deeper into the basket.
But it was too late.
Mu Yingying saw them as well.
Tears burst from her eyes.
“What happened to your legs… Little White Night, your legs.”
“It’s nothing.”
White Night’s voice came from the frame, weak but clearly trying to sound lighthearted.
“The tires are just broken. They correspond to my legs, so it just looks scary.”
She gave a small laugh.
“Once I save up enough Points, the System can fix the frame. As soon as the tires are replaced, my legs will recover. It’ll be a brand-new bike then.”
Though her voice was weak, it carried genuine cheer.
It was as if she were talking about a trivial matter.
Su Shuang’er’s hand stayed on the bicycle’s frame, never pulling away.
Her fingertips traced over the longest crack, stroking it repeatedly.
The moonlight shone quietly upon the three of them.
A bicycle ruined beyond recognition and two women covered in wounds.
They were in a pathetic state, but fortunately, they were all alive.
The silence lasted for less than 30 seconds.
Su Shuang’er’s body suddenly gave a violent shudder. Her beautiful face flushed a deep crimson, and the gaze she fixed on White Night became hazy.
