Ling Xiaoyou was still reeling from Bai Shuanglian’s strength, while Bai Shuanglian had already walked behind Demon Heck.
“Wait, I think we can still negotiate!”
Bai Shuanglian had already arrived behind him, so Naer must have been dealt with.
There was still a little time left for the Law Array to be completed, but since Bai Shuanglian had already arrived, there was no hope of finishing it.
So Demon Heck decisively stopped constructing the Law Array, raised both hands high, and immediately turned to look at Bai Shuanglian, saying:
“I surrender! I remember Eastern Radiance doesn’t easily kill surrendered prisoners of war, right?!”
Demon Heck hurriedly spat out a string of words, afraid that before he finished, Bai Shuanglian would just cut him down.
Seeing Demon Heck with both hands raised in surrender, Bai Shuanglian didn’t respond.
She simply lifted the ice-blue longsword in her hand, the blade flickering with a chilling, razor-sharp gleam.
“Hmph! Who told you that? Do you think you’re some kind of soldier? Surrender? Even if you surrender, I’ll still kill you!”
Ling Xiaoyou, snapping out of her shock, heard the commotion from a distance and rushed over, using her speed advantage to arrive at the scene and watch the fun.
She peeked her little head out from behind Bai Shuanglian, her face filled with smug pride, as if she were the one who scared Demon Heck into surrendering.
“Don’t, don’t, don’t, let’s talk this out, I can…”
Demon Heck glanced at the fox-like Ling Xiaoyou, then at Bai Shuanglian, whose gaze was indifferent but softened whenever it landed on Ling Xiaoyou, as if suddenly understanding something.
He hurriedly spoke to Ling Xiaoyou.
But before he could finish, a flash of sword light swept across his neck, and his fine head ‘gurururu’ rolled to the ground.
“Eh, why didn’t you let him finish?”
Ling Xiaoyou blinked, looking at Bai Shuanglian, not expecting her to just kill the Devil outright.
“Devils are best at deceiving hearts. Don’t waste words with these filthy things.”
Bai Shuanglian smiled at her, rubbing her little head and softly warning her.
“You’re no better, always bullying me and doing those kinds of things…”
Though Ling Xiaoyou understood Bai Shuanglian’s words were right, hearing them from her always made her feel a bit weird, so she pouted and quietly grumbled.
“Hmm? What did you say?”
Bai Shuanglian suddenly lifted Ling Xiaoyou’s smooth little chin, making her look into her eyes, smiling brightly as she asked.
“Nothing! Forget it! Xiaoyu is still unconscious! I have to wake her up first!”
Seeing Bai Shuanglian’s beautiful, cold face appear so close, Ling Xiaoyou blushed instantly, then quickly pushed Bai Shuanglian aside and dashed off like a frightened little white rabbit to find Xiaoyu.
Bai Shuanglian watched this scene with amusement, not rushing to follow, but instead preparing to clean up and, more importantly…
Verify if the Devil was truly dead.
Thinking of the Devil’s earlier caution, Bai Shuanglian’s eyes sharpened as she looked at the headless corpse on the ground. Her longsword gleamed as she struck the corpse.
At once, the sword light split into hundreds and thousands, slicing the Devil into countless pieces.
If a master chef were here, they’d surely say, ‘good minced meat’!
Bai Shuanglian stood silently for a moment, seeing nothing strange, then turned to walk toward Ling Xiaoyou.
Suddenly, a bloody wind howled from behind, aiming straight for Bai Shuanglian’s back.
Bai Shuanglian paused, then, moving even faster than the sneak attack, unleashed a sharp sword light from her already prepared hand, shattering the wriggling mass of blood.
“Ah!!!”
A horrified scream burst from the bloody mass, along with Demon Heck’s disbelieving voice:
“Impossible! How did you discover me?!”
“I clearly used the power bestowed by my Lord to hide myself. You shouldn’t have been able to find me!!”
Bai Shuanglian glanced coldly at the screaming chunk of blood, offering no explanation.
Spirit Power surged in her hand, and a crimson, blazing flame radiating pure, righteous Yang Fire engulfed the blood, burning it to nothingness.
After confirming once more that the Devil was truly dead, she started toward Ling Xiaoyou.
As for the truth behind the Devil’s unanswered question even at death, it was simple—she’d never relaxed her guard for fear the little ghost over there might be harmed.
But before going over, Bai Shuanglian had one more thing to do.
She stretched out her hand, the pale fingers slender and perfect for playing piano.
Bai Shuanglian made a few signs, performing Divination to confirm that the matter was completely resolved, and also checked on Xiaoyu’s situation.
Suddenly, her movements paused, for she sensed another person connected to this matter.
Xiaoyu’s mother?
Bai Shuanglian instinctively glanced toward Ling Xiaoyou and Xiaoyu, then, seeing Ling Xiaoyou checking on Xiaoyu’s condition, looked away and Divined Xiaoyu’s mother again.
The results appeared quickly. It seemed Xiaoyu’s mother had indeed been in danger for a while, but was now safe.
Satisfied with the outcome, Bai Shuanglian nodded, confirmed everything, then withdrew her hand and walked to Ling Xiaoyou.
“Did something just happen over there? I thought I heard something.”
Hearing Bai Shuanglian’s footsteps approaching, Ling Xiaoyou knelt on the ground, looking up curiously.
“Just a minor issue. It’s been resolved.”
Bai Shuanglian looked at Xiaoyu, lying with her head in Ling Xiaoyou’s lap, then at Ling Xiaoyou’s thigh, a flicker of oddness in her eyes.
“This child fell unconscious because too much Spirit Power was drained earlier.”
“Once her Spirit Power gradually returns to her body, she’ll naturally wake up.”
Ling Xiaoyou didn’t notice Bai Shuanglian’s strange expression, just nodded knowingly.
The two stood quietly for a while, then Ling Xiaoyou finally couldn’t hold back and turned to Bai Shuanglian.
“Why are you still here?”
Bai Shuanglian tilted her head, blinking innocently.
“If I’m not here, where should I be? Lying on your thigh like her, enjoying your lap pillow?”
Ling Xiaoyou: “?”
She looked at Xiaoyu, enjoying the lap pillow while unconscious, then at Bai Shuanglian’s calm face, as if a giant question mark appeared over her head.
Wait, did she mention a lap pillow?
Why did this person suddenly bring that up?
Did she just cross into a world line where she talked about lap pillows?
Ling Xiaoyou shook her head, driving out these strange thoughts, then looked at Bai Shuanglian.
“That’s not what I meant. Didn’t you say you needed to handle the aftermath?”
“This child’s mother is still missing. All we know is she’s alive, but her condition is likely dire. She needs your help!”
At this, Bai Shuanglian nodded knowingly.
“I understand.”
She said so, but showed no intention of leaving, standing there and watching Ling Xiaoyou.
“So what do you actually want? Can’t you just say it?”
Ling Xiaoyou was speechless, unable to figure out Bai Shuanglian’s intent.
“I want a reward.”
Bai Shuanglian said seriously.
“Reward?”
Ling Xiaoyou blinked.
“Yes!”
She nodded, and before Ling Xiaoyou could react, she leaned down and gently pecked Ling Xiaoyou’s sakura-pink lips.
Their lips touched, sharing a softness and sweetness, then parted.
Then, Bai Shuanglian smiled happily in Ling Xiaoyou’s shocked and embarrassed gaze:
“This kind of reward!”
