“Ah—choo!”
Green light all the way, Vyea, who was planning to sneak out of the Arbitration Office, suddenly sneezed heavily, almost losing her balance and falling off the rooftop.
Damn it, who was cursing me when I’m trying to get things done?!
Dare to come out and settle this one-on-one?!
Filled with resentment, Vyea stopped in her tracks and wrinkled her nose. She had to admit, the Arbitration Office was built in a prime location—easy to defend but hard to attack, with an unobstructed view. Just with a special long-range telescope, one could see over 80% of Antler City at a glance.
Look at this—what time is it and there are still people reveling all night long, completely ignoring the guards outside who are fighting a bloody battle against goblins!
Damn those rich and powerful people!
Vyea was annoyed. She’d been away for only three years, and yet humanity had already become so lazy?
Maybe they’d become a bit too urbanized.
Back in the day, she would have dragged a few stinky green-skinned goblins onto that guy’s bed to gross them out until they died of disgust!
Forget it.
It’s none of my business. Why bother thinking about it?
How can there be a good future if we’re all stuck on the same sinking ship as these vermin?
Shaking off the distracting thoughts, Vyea pursed her lips and asked:
“How much longer until the city-wide purification high-level magic is ready?”
“Soon. Even though I delayed their information exchange speed, they quickly activated their backup plan.”
Xiaolu spread her hands, her green form becoming more solid. “Within half an hour, all low-level monsters in the city will be forcibly wiped out.”
As she spoke, Xiaolu looked a little worried. “Sister Ye, you better find somewhere to hide for now. Your current body is heavily suppressed by the Holy Attribute, so you might get burned…”
“A minor wound. Not quite a boiling-water burn yet. But judging from the situation on the Main Battlefield…” Vyea looked distantly toward Fengxiang Town, snorting coldly. “Otherwise, they wouldn’t be in such a hurry.”
Unlike Vyea’s indifference, Xiaolu chuckled softly and whispered, “Sister Ye, you’re still the same as before.”
“No, not at all. I never had such a good temper before.”
Vyea shook her head. If she hadn’t run off halfway through being a Brave to fall in love with the Demon Lord, she might have evolved from a superhero into a patriot, and ended up as the infamous ‘I Don’t Eat Beef’.
Ahem!
She hoped she wouldn’t become that vicious.
After all, there were still a few boss-level Demon Lords waiting for her to conquer… At least, she wouldn’t over-evolve before defeating those bosses.
Vyea scratched her cheek, a little frustrated.
“If I want to get an answer to a question from my Master, which identity should I use? My old Brave identity? My current Slime-girl identity? Or the Slime-girl who also has the Brave’s identity?”
“I… don’t understand,” Xiaolu shook her head. She clearly didn’t get Vyea’s question. “You say you’re Hero Night Brother, so to me and Red Sister, you are Hero Night Brother. You say you’re Slime-girl Sister Ye, so to me and Red Sister, you’re Slime-girl Sister Ye.”
But humans wouldn’t be the same, Xiaolu knew well.
Compared to the Brave returning as a monster, most people preferred to believe that a new kind of monster that could devour human memories had appeared in the world…
“Sister Ye’s worries aren’t wrong. After all, Red Sister and I only need to be sure you’re you; everything else—eating, sleeping—goes on as usual. Even if the world ends, for us it’s just another long slumber. And every slumber eventually ends. But humans have a lot more to worry about.”
Xiaolu sighed. She was curious what question Vyea had that made her want to ask that human, unobservable, unfathomable Female Emperor.
“Sister Ye, to be honest, I really don’t recommend you mention your true identity to any human. Red Sister and I are original Artifact Spirits, free from the complicated and troublesome Human Principle concepts… Humans are, well, troublesome.” Xiaolu followed closely like a shadow, worry etched on her face.
“But I am human.”
Vyea said softly, her emerald eyes narrowing. With Xiaolu’s help, she quietly made her way to the base of the Arbitration Office’s observation tower without alerting anyone.
“I’m ashamed to be associated with monsters.”
Xiaolu: …
“Sister Ye, be careful with your next moves. Avoid patrol squads as much as possible. I’ll tell you the codes and passwords. If you can avoid fighting, then don’t fight.”
“No fighting? Will that reduce my sentence in court if I get caught later?”
Vyea said as she raised her hand and swiftly knocked out a standing Arbitration Knight. Under Xiaolu’s resentful gaze, she climbed onto the cloud elevator leading to the tower top.
“The next patrol shift changes in ten minutes, so we have ten minutes to finish this.”
Xiaolu dutifully guided her. “Sister Ye, you disguised yourself as a staff member and tricked the Headquarters Chief of the Weapons Department once before… She’s with your Trainee now, so I’ll try to avoid your routes.”
“Thanks… I really am a terrible Master.”
Vyea sighed, ascending to the tower top and, under the cover of night, moved the unconscious Arbitration Knight aside.
“Sister Ye, you’re not the Hero of the Night anymore. So you don’t have to feel so guilty—just go and test your foolish Trainee.”
Xiaolu egged her on.
Vyea glared at her shadow. “Don’t think too badly of me.”
“Hehe.”
Xiaolu was silent. She linked part of her consciousness to the observation tower’s crystal hub, instantly syncing everything she observed to Vyea.
Squads of Arbitration Knights armed with halberds were running forward, gathering at the tower’s base, surrounding the entire observation tower in a tight ring.
“Well then, not-so-bad Sister Ye, are you going to play the Brave, or the Demon Lord next?”
