Lance turned his head to look back, only to see that Astrid’s eyes were filled with determination.
Clearly, she had decided to follow him into danger.
The young woman’s long hair fluttered in the wind, and her pale green hair tie seemed barely able to restrain the wild strands.
“Oh? This little girl cares about you quite a bit, to think she actually followed you.”
“You had better give up on the idea of running away — that would be a total loss of manliness!”
Seeing this, Falia let out a soft chuckle behind her hand, still insisting that Lance go and negotiate with the Fire Element Lord.
Left with no choice, Lance had to continue forward, only stopping once they were quite far from Takin Village.
Astrid stopped right along with him.
Looking back at her and seeing the resolve in the elf’s eyes, Lance found himself unsure of what to say.
‘Isn’t she very worried about me? Where was I being self-indulgent…’
Astrid said nothing either. She simply stood behind Lance, seemingly wanting to show that she would stand and fall with him.
Lance let out a heavy sigh.
‘We’ve known each other for less than ten days… This isn’t something a friend of ten days can do…’
“Hey — Little Lance, that’s a very bad thought. Are you going to avoid this girl’s feelings?”
Detecting Lance’s inner thoughts, the playful expression on Falia’s face vanished, and she posed her question with a serious tone.
But Lance acted as if he hadn’t heard her, choosing to ignore her entirely.
He turned his head to look at the approaching sea of fire.
The surging flames gradually began to gather together, condensing at a distance of 1,000 meters from Lance.
The snow-white bird on Lance’s shoulder spread its wings and flew off, making contact with the Fire Element Lord first.
“Chillingus! Calm down first! I’m not in danger!”
The distance was close enough now, and since the Fire Element Lord had a booming voice, the words naturally reached Lance’s ears.
“You’ve been enslaved and you say there’s no danger? I think your mind has been controlled by a human!”
“Get out of the way! I’m going to kill the person who enslaved you right now! I’ll help you break free from their control!”
As he spoke, the flames surged once more, moving toward Lance’s direction.
“Oh! Don’t be so impulsive! You should leave this place quickly!”
Anahita was extremely anxious. She had indeed signed a contract with a terrifying existence, the contents of which she didn’t even know.
The one she had direct contact with was Lance, a polite Undead, and she was only occasionally touched and poked by that terrifying existence within an unknown space.
Based on her own perception, she hadn’t felt any danger yet.
At the same time, she knew how powerful that terrifying existence was. Fearing that this senior Fire Element Lord who treated her so well would also be controlled by that being, she naturally became frantic.
At that moment, Lance stepped forward again and said:
“Master Chillingus! I mean no ill will. The contents of the contract with Lady Anahita are very simple. I am merely taking Lady Anahita to the outside world, and she is providing me with some protection.”
Upon hearing these words, the surging flames grew even more intense, gradually condensing into the shape of a flaming giant dozens of meters tall.
The surging waves of fire seemed capable of burning through everything.
The flaming giant leaned down to approach Lance, frightening him into taking two steps back.
The flaming giant merely sized Lance up and said with great disdain:
“You? A contract?”
“Nonsense! You don’t even have an Element Pool! How could you possibly reach a contract with us Elemental Beings!”
“Who is the person behind you? Tell them to come out! If you don’t dissolve this contract, you die here today!”
The giant grew angrier as he spoke, his voice so loud it nearly tore Lance’s eardrums.
“Oh? He wants to talk to me directly?”
The Witch in the Mental World smiled. She tidied her clothing and gave Lance an order:
“Let him in. I’ll be the one to speak with him.”
