“Judging from the murals, the Bifang Subjugation Battle that took place in Yongzhou twelve hundred years ago was an extremely bizarre one.”
The cage was being dragged deeper into the cave, and Class Leader Xinyue took the opportunity to examine more of the mural information.
“These Bifang creatures acted like they were insane, desperately setting fires everywhere.
And after being warned by humans, they only escalated, setting even more fires.”
“It was almost like revenge— the more the humans tried to wipe them out, the harder the Bifang fought back. They burned themselves out, literally working themselves to death just to start more fires.”
It seemed the Bifang were pretty awful for a legendary spirit creature.
There was nothing auspicious about them at all— more like little disasters on wings.
Definitely not the friendly type.
“The extermination force sent by the imperial court was at their wit’s end. In the end, they used the essence of a divine tree to lure the Bifang here.
Several exceptional warriors sacrificed their lives, unleashing powerful arts, and sealed the Bifang beneath this mountain along with themselves.”
So that’s what it was— this tomb had some serious history.
Inside, not only were there clues about the Bifang, but also weapons left behind by those warriors.
Too bad this opportunity didn’t belong to her.
She was locked in a cage, clearly just cannon fodder.
It was so depressing.
“Honestly,” Class Leader Mu Ya from First High leaned in toward Xinyue’s ear, “has your classmate with the legendary spirit really abandoned you guys?”
Xinyue shook her head. “Hard to say. If I hadn’t been captured, then yeah, she probably would’ve walked away. But now that I’m caught, there’s a chance she’ll come.”
“Why? Doesn’t she care about the rest of your classmates?”
“‘Classmates,’ huh.”
Xinyue recounted what had happened earlier.
“If they had even a little bit of common sense, Second High wouldn’t have ended up locked in here with us.”
“…” Mu Ya looked embarrassed and ashamed.
First High’s experience of being tricked into the cave was just like Second High’s— except First High didn’t even have a single student alert enough to object.
“Even if they do come, can we actually win? These people are killers—real desperadoes!” Mu Ya said.
“If it’s Xiao Luo Xian, she’ll find a way. She always has a surprise up her sleeve,” Xinyue said with confidence.
“You trust her that much?”
“Mm!” Xinyue nodded. “As long as she hasn’t been caught, we still have hope!”
Just then, a rumbling sound echoed through the cave.
It was coming from the entrance.
Screams of pain followed from the bandits.
“Who’s there?!”
“Ahhh, monster—!”
The rumbling got louder and louder.
“Boss! Boss! Something’s wrong!”
A terrified bandit came sprinting back from the cave entrance.
“What happened?” The bandit leader, the Lion King, caught him.
“A ball! A big ball! A really big one!” the bandit panted, speaking in gibberish.
Smack! The leader slapped him hard. “Get a grip! What is it?!”
The lookout gathered his thoughts and spoke more clearly:
“A ball! A big ball! A really big one!”
Another slap.
“How the hell is that any different from what you just said?! What is it?!”
“A tentacle monster!” the bandit finally changed his wording. “Spherical! A tentacle ball monster!”
Rummmble—
He didn’t even need to explain anymore—the boss saw it himself.
A giant, ball-shaped monster was rolling in from the cave entrance with a thunderous roar!
There was only one path through the cave, which meant everyone was directly in the monster’s path. There was no way to dodge!
Even worse, the ball-shaped monster was growing bigger as it rolled!
Tentacles kept extending from its body, scooping up rocks and debris along the way to increase its mass and weight.
It was practically an unstoppable steamroller now!
“Aaaahhh!”
Everyone was terrified out of their minds— even the cold-blooded, murderous bandits were scared stiff.
“Mother of god! What kind of monstrous spirit is this?!”
“Help! I don’t wanna die!”
“Open the cage!”
In the heat of the moment, the bandit leader made a snap decision and unlocked the cage.
The cage door swung wide open— right into the path of the monstrous rolling boulder.
Now it was the students’ turn to freeze in fear.
“Ahhh, you bastards! So we’re just meat shields to buffer the impact, huh?!”
The giant tentacle boulder monster was already too close— there was no time to escape.
All the students forgot about the boundary between First and Second High and desperately crammed into the farthest corner of the cage.
Finally—
Boom!
With a loud crash, the giant boulder smashed into the cage, slammed side to side twice, then came to a stop.
Strange noises echoed from within.
“Let go of me!”
“You let go of me first!”
“Stupid octopus, you’re so weak— how could you possibly save anyone?”
“You’re weaker!”
“I’m obviously stronger than you!”
“Yeah right, then break free!”
“You stretched your tentacles so long to tie me up, and then you even added rocks— cheating! How the hell am I supposed to break free?! If you’ve got guts, change skins with me, go Nine-Tails mode!”
“I don’t care! You’re still weaker than me!”
“Arghhh, you asked for it… Unity of Heaven and Man! Pika—CHU—!!!”
Bzzzzzz!
A surge of electricity lit up the cave.
The surrounding tentacles finally went limp.
The so-called “giant tentacle boulder monster” unfurled like a flower bud, revealing me and Cluru tangled up inside.
We were covered in dust and ash, clothes in tatters, looking like two scruffy little beggars.
“…Xiao Luoxian? Cluru?” Xinyue stared at us in disbelief.
“Eh? Class Leader? What are you all doing here?”
I sat up, confused.
Clang.
The cage door locked shut.
“…This is the ‘hope of the whole class’ you just mentioned?” Mu Ya’s jaw dropped. “The one who ‘always has some unexpected trick up her sleeve’?”
Xinyue: “…”
“Well, she is definitely unexpected,” Mu Ya agreed wholeheartedly.
Oh, looks like we got caught.
No big deal. Cluru and I are both small, and the gaps in this cage are pretty wide— we could just squeeze through.
“These gaps are too wide. Be careful, they might slip out— tighten it,” said the lion-like bandit boss.
“On it… Transform!”
The cage was a contract-bound artifact spirit, and at the bandit’s command, the bars instantly thickened and the gaps shrank.
“…”
Slapping me in the face, huh?
Well, don’t blame me for getting serious now!
Immortal Technique: Flash Step.
With a slight activation of spatial law, I blinked and appeared outside the cage.
Blinking without a pre-marked location consumes a lot of spiritual energy… Good thing Earth is full of spiritual Qi.
As one of only two cultivators on the whole server and the only one with an actual cultivation method— my energy quickly replenished.
“What the hell?!” the Lion King bandit chief glared at me in shock and fury. “Spatial-element spirit technique? What’s this brat’s background?!”
I ignored the bandits.
Leaning against the cage, I raised my hand with an annoyed expression:
“Apologize!”
“All of you so-called ‘classmates’ who ignored my warnings and gave me that passive-aggressive crap— apologize!
Use the most sincere tone of your entire life!
