“Uh, it’s true. We had a fight with the beef noodle shop not long ago. They said we were stealing their business and even threatened to teach us a lesson,” the dumpling shop owner’s wife recalled carefully, suddenly realizing the whole picture.
“Do we, as Demon Control Officers, need to get involved in this kind of civil dispute?” Xu Bei asked Sister Jimmy.
“Ahem. Madam, this kind of matter you should resolve on your own,” Sister Jimmy pretended to clear her throat twice.
“How can we just let it go? Officer Jimmy, you have to help us. That beef noodle shop is full of ruthless people, and they seem to have connections. They intimidate all the nearby merchants every day,” the dumpling shop owner’s wife pleaded.
“Ah, well… I’m a Demon Control Officer. Matters involving criminal gangs don’t fall under my jurisdiction,” Sister Jimmy started sweating.
“You’re the only community police officer we have here. If you don’t help us uphold justice, all of us will have to close down. We’re just ordinary folks; if you don’t help us, we might as well wait for death,” the dumpling shop owner’s wife said as she pulled over her youngest son, tears welling in her eyes, looking pitiful.
Sister Jimmy fell silent for a moment, conflicted inside, speechless, and glanced sideways at Xu Bei.
Xu Bei leaned against the wall, picked his nose, wearing a look of indifference, pretending not to know anything.
Sister Jimmy felt embarrassed and swallowed nervously.
This was her first official duty as a community police officer.
If she couldn’t solve anything now, the residents here would never take her seriously.
They would see her as nothing more than a joke, a clown. Without authority, no one would fear her, and no one would listen.
“Xiao Xu, what do you think?” Sister Jimmy tried to get Xu Bei’s opinion.
“You should take action. A community police officer has to be tough,” Xu Bei’s face changed instantly, serious and earnest.
He now saw Sister Jimmy’s true nature: just a fresh graduate, all talk.
Although Sister Jimmy looked sharp and mature, wearing sunglasses with a confident air, she was actually useless—just good at running her mouth.
“Let’s settle this quickly. I still need to pick up my girlfriend from school later,” Xu Bei said as he pulled Sister Jimmy out of the dumpling shop and across the street to the beef noodle shop.
It was broad daylight, yet the beef noodle shop’s doors were tightly shut, wrapped in multiple layers of chains.
But if you listened carefully, you could hear voices chatting inside, proving someone was in there.
More than that, there seemed to be quite a few people, laughing, shouting—it was lively in there.
“Let’s come back tomorrow. The owners seem busy with something,” Sister Jimmy immediately backed down.
“If I’m not mistaken, they’re probably conducting some illicit dark deal inside. If we storm in now and catch them red-handed, you’ll definitely get promoted and get a raise,” Xu Bei analyzed.
“Huh? This serious? I’ll call for backup first,” Sister Jimmy was shocked.
But she was both scared and excited, pulling out her police radio to call headquarters.
“You fool! What if it’s nothing? If you call backup, won’t that mean you get the credit? And I want the credit all to myself!” Xu Bei snatched the radio from her hand.
“Then what do we do? Judging by the sounds, there are at least six or seven of them inside, and it’s just the two of us. Even if you’re a demon, you can’t fight ten at once!” Sister Jimmy nervously babbled.
“First, draw your gun,” Xu Bei said seriously.
“Oh.” Sister Jimmy pulled out her service pistol.
Then Xu Bei suddenly delivered a fierce spinning back kick, smashing through the beef noodle shop’s door, shattering the chains to the floor.
When the door opened, inside the small beef noodle shop were more than a dozen burly men wielding weapons.
They were watching two shirtless muscular men fighting each other, the whole scene dripping with testosterone.
“…” Xu Bei fell silent once again.
“Don’t move! Don’t move!” Sister Jimmy waved her small pistol around, panicked.
But these tattooed men didn’t flinch even with the gun pointed at them. They turned with fierce glints in their eyes, glaring at Xu Bei and Sister Jimmy.
“Drop your weapons! What are you doing? This is an illegal gathering! Why are you fighting? The law forbids private brawls! I am arresting you for fighting!” Sister Jimmy shouted warnings.
But the louder she shouted, the less they feared her. The men quietly spread out, ready to strike back at any moment.
“Little cop, you’ve got six bullets. How many of us do you think you can kill?” one thug snorted and delivered a classic line.
“Do you know whose turf this is? How dare you cause trouble here?”
“We’re enforcing our own rules. None of your business.”
“What little female cop doesn’t even know the rules?”
Other thugs started shouting loudly, which only made Sister Jimmy’s hand holding the gun tremble slightly.
“Did you guys block the drain with ground beef and cow bones?” Xu Bei asked.
“Huh? Who the hell are you, blond kid?”
“You know who we are? How dare you talk to us like that?”
“Looking for death! So what if it was us?”
“Bet I’ll break your leg!”
“I’m gonna shave off his blonde hair! Just the sight of him is annoying!”
The thugs’ reaction to Xu Bei’s words was like a thyroid storm—completely over the top, immediately turning hostile and cursing madly.
Street thugs like them despise pretty boys like Xu Bei the most, the kind who reek of gigolo vibes, wishing they could stab a steel pipe through his crotch.
“Clearly a gigolo! A female cop’s lapdog!” the thugs pointed at Xu Bei’s face, insulting him freely.
“Why can everyone tell I’m a gigolo?” Xu Bei frowned.
But despite the insults, the atmosphere inside the shop froze.
Although the thugs claimed they weren’t afraid with guns pointed at them, it wasn’t true.
They were loud with their mouths, but when it came down to the real fight, who wanted to be the first to get shot?
But this wasn’t what Xu Bei wanted to see.
He just wanted a bloodbath; he wanted gunshots to end this quickly.
He still had to go back and play games!
No time to waste, no dragging this out.
So Xu Bei turned around slowly and closed the beef noodle shop’s door.
“What are you doing?” Sister Jimmy asked quietly, confused.
Click. Xu Bei locked the door without answering her, coldly questioning the thugs, “You’re from Meteor Street? Which gang? You’re crossing the line.”
As soon as he said this, the thugs calmed down noticeably.
“We’re Demon Control Officers. Surrender now,” Sister Jimmy added.
“Demon Control Officers?”
“The Demon Control Bureau?”
“Better to die fighting than get caught by the Demon Control Bureau!”
But her one sentence only made things worse. The thugs went into a frenzy again, completely counterproductive.
Their fear of the Demon Control Bureau only ignited their fighting spirit at that moment.
“Jimmy,” Xu Bei called out.
“What?” Sister Jimmy looked innocent.
“You’re less useful than a slab of roast pork,” Xu Bei couldn’t help but curse in frustration.
