Changfei hadn’t expected a sudden disciple to show up out of nowhere.
He was only out to tidy up some lingering soul issues, so how did a kid come running up to him wanting to become his apprentice?
And with the surname Nangong?
That was a prominent local family name.
Hopefully, it wasn’t what he feared.
He hesitated for a moment and said, “Um… Nangong Quan, please stand up…”
“Master! You can just call me Xiao Quan!” Nangong Quan excitedly lifted his head, and the sight made Changfei almost wince.
Raising his voice, he said, “I told you, stand up first! Didn’t you notice the way everyone’s looking at you, like you’re crazy?
Do you want someone to call the Spirit Hospital and have you taken away?!”
If someone actually did take Nangong Quan away for that, Changfei would feel terribly guilty!
Hearing this, Nangong Quan glanced around and smiled carelessly.
“It’s fine! Master! I’m the direct heir of the Nangong family; they can’t send me to the Spirit Hospital!”
“Is that supposed to be a selling point?” Changfei tilted his head, raising an eyebrow.
Thinking it over, if the kid wasn’t afraid, what was there for him to fear?
Without hesitation, he tore off his Flight Talisman and landed lightly, curiously sizing up Nangong Quan before waving him up.
“Don’t kneel—it feels weird. Let’s get up and find a place with some cold drinks where we can talk.”
Seeing that this expert wasn’t all stiff and formal, Nangong Quan immediately grabbed Changfei’s hand and led him to a place he was familiar with.
To avoid the kid getting mistaken for a madman, Changfei took off his Hidden Form when no one was paying attention, then quickly changed into the clothes he had worn earlier to trick Feng Shuangrou.
Nangong Quan turned around and saw the expert behind him had changed his appearance and even his outfit, making him admire him even more.
“Master, you’re really amazing! You changed like a completely different person in the blink of an eye! Why do you look taller than when I first saw you just now?”
Changfei twitched at the corner of his mouth.
He’d noticed the same thing—just when Nangong Quan had touched him earlier, he felt his limbs ache and tingle, a sensation very different from when he transformed into a girl before.
Before Nangong Quan could say anything, Changfei realized his vision had sharpened.
Seeing more clearly was secondary; as someone who was originally quite short and never able to see over others’ heads—now he seemed to be on par with Nangong Quan’s height, even able to see the top of his head.
Though he wasn’t sure if he should feel happy or a little melancholic about it.
Seeing Nangong Quan’s admiring gaze, Changfei raised a fist and coughed lightly twice to hide his embarrassment.
He tried to make his voice sound deeper, and to his surprise, it came out with a slight huskiness.
“It’s nothing… huh?! cough cough It’s nothing, nothing… Let’s find a place to sit and talk first.”
Changfei tried to cover it up, but having spent more time as a woman recently, he could feel the subtle changes between male and female sensations beginning to shift again.
Nangong Quan didn’t notice Changfei’s expression change and led him into a private room.
Without hesitation, he poured a cup of tea and knelt down straight away.
“It was my mistake, Master! How can a disciple be accepted without offering tea to his master? Please, Master, have some tea!”
Changfei immediately jumped out of the kneeling position’s range, making a strange face.
“Don’t kneel! Not until we clear things up. I don’t take disciples lightly. And do you even know who I am? Aren’t you afraid I might trick you if you’re this careless about becoming my apprentice?”
“Master, you wouldn’t say that if you were trying to deceive me! I’ve met real con artists before, but I believe you’re definitely not one of them—otherwise, you wouldn’t be speaking to me like this!” Nangong Quan answered excitedly, even more earnest than before, inching closer while still kneeling.
Such sincerity from a young man opened Changfei’s eyes.
He seriously suspected that if he kept avoiding Nangong Quan, the kid would only show even greater devotion.
He raised a hand and pulled him up.
“Tell me, did something happen to you that made you want to apprentice under me? If you don’t explain clearly, don’t blame me for refusing you. You have to understand, master and disciple need trust before any real secret techniques can be taught, right?”
Changfei had already made up his mind: figure out what was going on with this kid, help him solve it, and then he wouldn’t have to bother him anymore.
Showing his sincerity, Nangong Quan went all out and recounted his story in detail.
By the end, Changfei was somewhat speechless.
How did this kid manage to sound like a protagonist from a novel? Not only had he met an ancient immortal—no, a Great Immortal Huang—who taught him immortal arts, but he’d also met a beautiful senior sister.
The master, as expected, turned out to be a major villain, and the senior sister had fallen into danger protecting him.
It was truly melodramatic!
But that senior sister’s name sounded familiar: Feng Qinyue… Feng Qinyue… He was sure he had heard it somewhere recently.
After thinking it over, Changfei decided to help Nangong Quan.
He pulled out his Divine Tablet and powered it on, posting a message on Kill Fox.
Nangong Quan was shocked. “Master… do immortals nowadays really use computers?”
“Do you think otherwise? What era do you think this is? If we didn’t use computers, how could we have the face to be immortals? Every immortal has their own upgrade system, you know?” Changfei said as he uploaded the information on Kill Fox’s secret page.
Then he smiled at Nangong Quan. “This info will probably take a few days to come through.
If it’s inconvenient for you, you can write down my number.
Once I’ve investigated the person you’re looking for, I’ll contact you with what I find.”
Nangong Quan was still dazed.
Seeing Changfei open the door to leave, he couldn’t help but call out, “Master! Just now… what were you trying to find for me?”
Changfei almost slipped on the floor.
After all that, the kid didn’t even know he was helping him look for Feng Qinyue and the old Taoist…
But then again, the boy’s original purpose seemed to be just to apprentice himself.
Maybe it was Changfei who had read too much into things… sigh
Scratching his cheek, Changfei cleared his throat and finally adjusted his thinking to the kid’s level.
“I don’t take disciples lightly. Hearing your story, I sympathize. I’ll do my best to find the old Taoist who ruined you and your senior sister’s youth all those years ago, so you can put this matter to rest…”
“Oh… I see!” Nangong Quan suddenly understood and waved his hand, immediately smiling.
“But that’s not necessary, Master. I only want to apprentice under you. I’ll handle everything else myself.”
