“What’s wrong with Teacher?”
“I don’t know.”
“I don’t know either. He just said he was a little tired and would be fine soon.”
A few minutes later, Rolls returned to the living room, looking as if he had just washed his face. He seemed much more refreshed now.
“Celes, Leah, Vina, Zero, and Ella.”
He called out the names of the five girls one by one, earnestly reminding them, “You must trust each other, rely on one another, and face the future together.”
The great hero was already old and frail; his era had passed.
Although the signs for the future were ominous, he believed in the strength and wisdom of those who would come after.
As for strength, with the girls’ talents, once they reached their full potential, their power would be immeasurable.
As for wisdom, the newly joined one had already shown hers.
To put it simply, Rolls felt that the team’s strength might actually be dragging down the team’s intelligence.
Celes nodded slightly, as if she had something on her mind.
“We will, but why are you suddenly saying this?”
Vina asked.
“Just think of it as an old man’s nagging.”
Rolls chuckled, patted the sofa, and sat down.
“Also, there are a few more things I want to tell you.”
He was in no rush.
First, he looked at the Sword Saint girl with ice-blue hair:
“Celes, a general who came today asked me to give you a message. Your father is about to lead troops to Lilburg to establish a new border defense line. He’ll be passing through the city closest to the Royal City next week for supplies, and he hopes you can meet him there.”
Lilburg was already gone.
The kingdom had no plans to rebuild the town and instead intended to set up a purely military defense line.
This was exactly as Ella had predicted.
“Understood.”
“Next is Vina. This time, the Magic Court jointly petitioned for you, but they’ve offended quite a few people because of it. They want to bring you back for a period of re-education—at least to put on a show for others.”
“Sigh, I know, I know.”
The little witch sighed.
“Those old men are always like this, afraid of this and that.”
“And Zero,” Rolls looked at the assassin girl, “you need a clean identity. I plan to take you to my hometown to settle this, so that no one can use your identity against you in the future.”
Zero nodded obediently, but the next moment she suddenly realized something: “So does that mean I have to leave…”
“Yes, you’ll each be leaving for a while, about half a month or so.”
Rolls then said to Ella and Leah, “During this time, you two shouldn’t stay at the Bonfire Camp either. There was such a big commotion in the Royal City a few days ago—everyone knows they surrounded that place. The impact isn’t good, so let’s lay low for a few days.”
Celes instinctively worried, “But Ella doesn’t have a place to stay.”
“It’s fine, she can come back to the Church with me.”
Leah volunteered.
“It just so happens we have…something to do.”
The Saintess believed that purification and healing were similar, so she needed to keep the patient’s condition confidential.
“Something to do?”
Her vague words drew the attention of the girls, all of them looking at her curiously—especially Vina, whose peach blossom eyes were practically sparkling with mischief.
“Ah, stop asking already! It’s a good thing, a proper matter.”
Leah finished her tea in one gulp and stood up to take her leave.
“I have to head back for a bit. Lots of people are waiting for news. If I don’t tell them, they’ll keep striking.”
“I also…”
Because she was still brooding over something, Celes didn’t say goodbye to Ella.
She simply packed her things and set off.
Vina didn’t manage to escape from the Offering Hall, because the old magicians from the Magic Court came in person to drag her back, forcing her to study morals and etiquette.
Zero went out for a bit.
When she returned, she was holding a small pink flower, which she gently placed in Ella’s hand.
“The gardener at the Royal Garden said this flower can last for more than ten days after being picked,” she said haltingly, “When it’s about to wither, I’ll be back.”
“Zero,” Rolls called to her from outside the door, “it’s time to go.”
“Coming right away.”
Zero reluctantly looked at the girl, then turned and walked toward the carriage.
Ella looked down at the little pink flower in her hand, thinking to herself that this byd old six was actually pretty romantic.
“The final masterpiece of the Silent Sanctuary, huh. I really want to know how it was made.”
Unfortunately, with Wesley devoured by the undead, all participants in the Gregory Trial Case were now dead.
For the time being, no one could satisfy her curiosity.
Not long after, Leah poked her head in from the door: “Ella, let’s go too.”
The beautiful girl with the bright pink hair smiled softly: “Mm, I’ll be right there~”
“Don’t drag it out, speak properly.”
“……”
After more than half an hour on the road, the majestic royal palace gradually faded into the distance, replaced by the sacred and solemn dome of the Cathedral of Light.
“This was built before independence. A hundred years ago, many foreigners wanted to come in, but were ultimately turned away, because this is a blessing unique to our Human Kingdom.”
Leah excitedly introduced the place to Ella, who was here for the first time.
“So, what do you think? Impressive, right?”
“It’s really impressive~”
It was clear that the Saintess was genuinely excited—even when she spoke in that tone, she didn’t get scolded.
Ella followed her inside, taking in every detail along the way.
The Human Kingdom’s Light Priests were the nemesis of all sorts of curses and Dark Magic from the Demon Race.
To Ella, the headquarters of the Church of Light was basically a gathering place for heretics.
Hmph, for the Demon Lord to infiltrate the heart of the enemy today—wasn’t that a kind of Dark Magic trampling on the blessings of Light?
“Saintess has returned.”
“Saint!”
“Sister!”
As soon as Leah appeared, she caused a stir.
The people gathered at the chapel entrance surged forward, concerned about what had happened to her in the past few days and whether she had been wronged.
“There were some twists and turns a few days ago, but please rest assured, under the guidance of the Light, everything has been resolved. Evil has been punished, and justice has prevailed.”
“That’s wonderful!”
“Long live the Saintess!”
People spread the good news, passing it along and even writing to those Light Priests on strike at the front lines.
Leah found a few Sisters, instructed them to tidy up a room, and said she’d be staying at the Church for half a month.
“This is Miss Ella, my companion. She’ll be staying at the Church for a while as well.”
With the Saintess’s introduction, Ella received a warm welcome in the Church.
The Sisters led her to see her room, and many people curiously sized her up along the way.
“Miss Ella, you’re so beautiful.”
“Thank you.”
“Miss Ella, do you also follow the Light?”
“Yes, I’ve always had fire in my eyes and Light in my heart.”
“Miss Ella, since you’re the Saintess’s companion, you must be very close?”
“That’s right, you know, she’s my best sister. I’ve been looking forward to visiting her home, but never had the time. Sometimes it’s hard to make a decision, but after many days and nights of thought, I decided to put the affairs of the kingdom aside for now. We’ll spend here not just one day, not two, not three, but seven, eight, or even more…”
“Ella sis, your chest is so big!”
“Alice! Don’t be naughty!” A Sister hurried over and picked up the little girl, apologizing to everyone as she did.
“Have you finished your homework? Can you sing the hymns? Have you memorized the prayers?”
The little girl who had just shouted about big chests was carried away by the Sister—clearly, a painful extra lesson awaited her.
Leah came over to Ella and whispered, “That girl Tai Dingjue caught that night was Alice. She jumped out the carriage window and ran here. When the Royal Family was searching for the culprit, she was even listed as a suspect.”
“Even a little girl like her wasn’t spared?”
“That’s why he deserved to die.”
Leah put her hands on her hips.
“As the Saintess of Light, I will never tolerate such evil! By the way, purification starts for you tomorrow. Be ready.”
