“Xu Ge, I’m off to school.”
“Mm hmm hmm.”
Another morning, another familiar exchange.
And of course, the usual struggle to get out of bed—Xu Bei didn’t wake up until nearly noon.
He had almost completely forgotten what happened yesterday.
What hatred? What anger? Sleeping it off overnight had calmed everything down. After all, it was just a game.
That was probably one of the perks of virtual games, right?
Exhausting your energy, then logging off feeling refreshed, which was great for curing insomnia.
“Knock knock knock~”
A polite knock sounded at the door.
Xu Bei put down his lunchbox, about to eat, but went to open the door first.
When he opened it, outside stood a strange woman wearing round sunglasses.
Her hair was reddish-brown, she wore a deep blue shirt, slim Western-style pants, and had a police revolver hanging at her waist. Arms crossed, she carried an arrogant air, her nose raised high as if looking down on everyone.
A person who liked to look down their nose at others, radiating nothing but pride from head to toe.
“A-SIR? What do you want?” Xu Bei immediately saw through her identity.
“I’m undercover. How did you know who I am?” the red-haired woman demanded.
“I think if you hid the gun on your waist, your cover would be a lot better,” Xu Bei retorted.
He had seen plenty of undercover agents around Meteor Street, because government agents had to wear plainclothes to enter the area.
But their disguises were as thin as paper; they loved showing off their little police guns the most.
All of them were unbearably arrogant, bullying everyone around. But most of the underground forces really didn’t dare mess with them.
Because these undercover agents weren’t ordinary people—they were from the Demon Extermination Bureau, an agency they had talked about endlessly but never actually encountered.
The most ruthless and brutal enforcement agency in history, every Extermination agent possessed outstanding abilities.
They would use any means necessary to achieve their goals, ruthless in their methods. Being caught by a Demon Extermination agent meant no chance of survival—imprisoned for life or worse.
“Since you know who I am, we can talk. I’m Sun Xiaohui’s supervisor, you can call me Sister Jimmy,” the red-haired woman introduced herself.
“Xiaohui isn’t at school right now.” Xu Bei retracted into his room, ready to close the door.
“Wait, I’m here for you.” Sister Jimmy squeezed into the crack of the door, shouting.
“What are you doing? You’re trespassing! That’s illegal! Get out now!” Xu Bei firmly rejected her.
“I know who you are, you can’t hide. You better come talk to me willingly, or we won’t let you off easily, Number 51, legal demon Xu Bei.” Sister Jimmy sneered.
Hearing that, Xu Bei’s expression stiffened, and he could only open the door.
But opening the door suddenly caused Sister Jimmy to lose balance and nearly fall. She planted her foot hard to steady herself.
“Ahem ahem.” She pushed her sunglasses up, pretending to cough and dispel the awkwardness.
“Speak up, say it outside. Any house you people enter always ends up smelling bad.” Xu Bei frowned in disgust, taking the initiative to step outside and lock the door behind him.
“Seems like you have a deep grudge against our Demon Extermination Bureau.” Sister Jimmy smiled.
“Your words are just hot air. I’m a demon. It’s because you people kept setting traps and hunting me down that I had to hide in Meteor Street. Why should I treat you nicely?” Xu Bei scoffed.
“Then you should know Xiaohui’s identity. She’s our Bureau’s designated talent. You knew that and still chose to live with her? Do you know what that means? You’re a freeloader, playing with a girl’s feelings.” Sister Jimmy explained.
“That…” Xu Bei was speechless for a moment.
“Xiaohui is a minor. Do you realize you’re breaking the law? I have the authority to lock you up and send you straight to the Bureau. Once inside, you won’t be coming out.” Sister Jimmy sneered coldly.
“Do you know what the Romeo and Juliet Act means? True love can transcend age and legal restrictions. Besides, nothing happened between me and little Sun. We have a platonic relationship. Pure love—understand? Don’t think we’re as dirty as you.” Xu Bei suddenly replied with full confidence.
“Living together for a few days isn’t a big deal? Who’d believe that? Nonsense! I could have handcuffed you and taken you away already!” Sister Jimmy launched a direct attack—no reasoning, no evidence, no law.
Though Demon Extermination agents are nominally guardians of the law, they are often the biggest violators of it.
Unlike regular officers, Extermination agents don’t care about procedural justice—they pursue result-based justice.
To protect the city and its people, their authority supersedes the law.
“You can try.”
But Xu Bei was not intimidated by the danger these agents represented, stubborn as ever.
He had barely gotten the chance to return to civilized society, even handing over all his assets to regain his freedom.
Offending the Bureau would mean losing everything, even his life.
But a man could lose anything—except his pride…
cough No, his dignity!
Even if he had to die, he would fight back. Face was more important than freedom or life—that was a man’s nature.
“Hmph, no wonder you’re the man Xiaohui likes, you do have some guts.” Sister Jimmy suddenly softened, smiling.
“Chickened out.” Xu Bei continued to provoke.
“I’m not here to cause trouble. After all, you’re a government-certified legal demon—basically our dog in a way,” Sister Jimmy laughed.
“What did you say? I didn’t catch the last word. Say it again?” Xu Bei’s mouth twitched in anger.
“You’re obligated to help. You have to contribute to society. Otherwise, your legal demon ID will expire quickly, and we won’t renew it.” Sister Jimmy explained.
“Don’t think I’m some government lapdog because of that. Get lost!” Xu Bei snapped.
“We’ve arranged work for Xiaohui to live comfortably, but we didn’t plan for her to support some useless freeloader.” Sister Jimmy mocked.
“I’m working on making money, I’m not a freeloader!” Xu Bei shouted back.
“We’re watching you closely. Don’t think we don’t know what you’re doing—sitting in a rented room all day playing games. How do you make money?” Sister Jimmy ridiculed.
“You… don’t know a thing! Gaming can make money! Are you my mom or something? Do you have to control my gaming too? Are we that close?” Xu Bei’s rebuttal sounded weak.
“I may not be your mom, but I’m Xiaohui’s supervisor and guardian—basically her mom. I have the right to question my daughter’s useless boyfriend, right?” Sister Jimmy argued firmly.
“Tsk, that actually makes sense.” Even Xu Bei had no reply.
