“What? The south of H City? Are you crazy? We’re in the northern part of the city, the very northern edge…”
Song Xue’er immediately frowned as she spoke.
“So what?”
Lin Mo’s expression was indifferent, as if it didn’t matter at all.
“No matter how far, even if it’s thousands of miles apart, across countless mountains and rivers, I will definitely go find her!”
Song Xue’er fell silent.
From Lin Mo’s expression, she could tell this man wasn’t joking—he truly meant it.
“Suddenly… I feel a bit envious of your sister…” she murmured softly, her voice low and indistinct.
“Did you say something?”
Lin Mo turned his head to look at her, puzzled.
“Nothing.”
Song Xue’er shook her head.
“We’ve rested enough. Let’s get ready to go.”
“Go? Where?”
Lin Mo was taken aback again.
“To find your sister, of course. Didn’t you say so yourself? Or… are you planning to leave me behind?”
Her voice carried a hint of unease.
Compared to Lin Mo now, she was utterly useless-weak in combat, slow on her feet, nothing but dead weight.
If Lin Mo left her behind to find his sister faster, it wouldn’t even be surprising…
The thought of being abandoned by Lin Mo filled Song Xue’er with dread—a dread that seemed to stem from more than just fear of danger and death in this apocalyptic world…
“I wouldn’t do that, but… are you really sure? The journey is long, and who knows how many dangers lie ahead…”
“What else can I do? Staying here alone would mean death anyway. I told you, I’m sticking with you. Unless you drive me away, I won’t leave.”
“Fine.”
Lin Mo smiled helplessly.
“Don’t blame me if something happens along the way.”
“I will blame you!”
Song Xue’er rolled her eyes at him, pouting.
“What kind of logic is that? It’s not like I’m obligated to protect you forever… Besides, if we encounter high-level Zombies, even I—”
“Mm-“
Lin Mo’s words cut off.
His lips parted slightly, his eyes blinking as he stared blankly ahead.
A faint dampness lingered on his cheek -a fleeting softness that vanished in an instant, yet left behind a lingering tingle and flutter.
He turned to look at Song Xue’er.
The girl was lowering herself from her tiptoes, pretending as if nothing had happened.
“Now… I can blame you, right?”
The atmosphere fell into silence.
They walked side by side, but with some distance between them.
Song Xue’er kept her head down, silent, while Lin Mo remained in a daze, as if unable to believe what had just happened.
“A girl kissed me?!”
Lin Mo’s first reaction was disbelief. He had barely even spoken to girls before, and now… he had been kissed—by an incredibly cute girl, no less.
Was this real? Was this not a dream?
Of course, Lin Mo knew the answer.
He just wasn’t ready or perhaps couldn’t bring himself to believe it, let alone figure out how to face it.
So for now, he could only numb himself as much as possible.
Song Xue’er’s face was flushed red, her heart tangled with conflicting emotions.
In that moment of impulse, she had actually done such a thing…
Would he think of her as an immodest girl?
And what exactly were these feelings she had for him?
She couldn’t find an answer, nor was she certain herself.
From initial admiration, to gratitude and curiosity after being rescued, until now…
If she had to put it into words, it should probably be called affection?
The young girl uncertainly affirmed this to herself.
The silence continued, accompanied by their gradually synchronizing footsteps, until the sun set behind the western mountains…
