Estina was somewhat skeptical.
‘Come on, those are heinous criminals! Desperate struggles are really dangerous, meow~’
‘But thinking of Lafeier’s previous incredible moves, he always turned danger into safety.’
“Hmm… it should be fine, right?”
If something went wrong, she would protect Lafeier no matter what.
Perhaps her life would forever be frozen at the age of 22.
Night really makes one think about many things.
As she opened the cell door, Estina was about to enter first, but Lafeier grabbed her wrist.
“Hold on, I’ll go in alone.”
Lafeier smiled and took the key from Estina’s hand. “How could I let a beautiful lady do such a thing? Leave it to me.”
After saying that, before Estina could react, Lafeier walked into the Death Prison.
“Lord…”
Estina’s heart raced as she watched Lafeier enter the darkness alone.
The sensation of his hand on her wrist sent a tingling numbness through her body.
On her flushed cheeks, tears formed, like sparkling white specks on blue gems.
For a moment, she even forgot how to breathe.
…
“Hehehe… I’m going to test my new skill, how could I let you in!”
Stepping into the pitch-black Death Prison, Lafeier laughed.
This was his first time entering the Death Prison. Last time when he brought Xiugu and the others for a visit, they only glanced from the entrance without actually going inside.
“9527, 9528, 9529…” Frowning, Lafeier slowly searched for the numbers on the cell doors in the darkness.
The stench of decay grew stronger with the deepening darkness. Occasionally, his foot would kick a hard object that clattered against the metal bars, producing a crisp sound.
Looking down, he saw a white bone, unknown from which part of a body.
That noise undoubtedly woke up the person inside the cell.
The faint light seeping through the cracks in the stone wall dimly illuminated his pale, gaunt face. His cheeks were deeply sunken, leaving only a withered head attached to a skeletal frame.
[Individual Name: Herschel]
[Sin Level: 54]
[Execution Reward: 1000 Crowns]
“Finally, a monetary reward. Up until now, Lafeier hadn’t seen a single monetary reward. He hadn’t had time to look closely during the rebellion in Death Row that day.”
“I thought the Imperial Judicial Bureau had extended its reach into the System.”
Then he shook his head. “Unfortunately, his execution date hasn’t come yet.”
Next, he looked at the number: 9526.
“9527… should be around here.”
Turning a corner and entering another corridor, the first cell he saw had a sign that clearly read: 9527.
“Found it.”
Looking at the man sitting in the corner behind the bars, Lafeier activated his consciousness.
“Stand up.”
As the words fell, the man’s face immediately filled with terror, and then, like a marionette, he stood up in a twisted posture.
Once he was standing, Lafeier realized the guy was missing a leg.
“Having coercive force… this is practically a miracle!”
“What if…”
Lafeier pondered for a moment, a flicker of impatience in his eyes.
“Both of your legs are present.”
Death row inmate: ?
“Well, it seems you can’t create something from nothing.”
Then, Lafeier took the key and unlocked the cell door.
“Maintain a distance of 3 meters from me. Follow me.”
Hearing this, the death row inmate hopped on one leg behind Lafeier.
His long-unused body was forced by a powerful force to hop up and down, causing his barely healed wounds to burst open.
The stinging pain made the inmate’s eyes wide with fury.
He glared fiercely at Lafeier, but the moment his gaze touched Lafeier’s figure, he was overwhelmed by a tremendous pressure that almost made him faint.
In his daze, he seemed to see a huge silver statue standing under thick, deep purple clouds. A few rays of sunlight pierced through the dark clouds, making the silver statue shine brilliantly.
When he tried to make out the features of the silver statue, a fire suddenly burst in his eyes. The intense heat crackled, and a miserable scream echoed throughout the prison district.
“What the hell!”
Lafeier turned around and saw the death row inmate’s eyes burned to ash, while his skin remained intact.
“Did I encounter a ghost?”
“Ah, whatever. You’re about to die anyway. Do what you want.”
If your eyes catch fire for no reason, I’d think it was Xia Bo Li Li!
Mainly, Lafeier really couldn’t find any clues related to this.
Could there really be a Mad Fire King in this world?
He could only make a note of it and investigate later.
After extracting the prisoners from the other two cells, Lafeier didn’t immediately go back.
He looked toward the even darker and more foul-smelling depths and thought, ‘Might as well take a walk around.’
So, he led the three death row inmates toward the depths of the prison district.
The farther they went, the stronger the stench of decay.
At the deepest point, the three inmates behind him even started vomiting.
They walked and vomited, choking on their own vomit, triggering violent coughs, then vomiting again.
The floor became increasingly sticky, as if it could pull threads when stepped on, like some strange secretion.
“Please, don’t let it be something like a Plaka Parasite.”
For some reason, though Lafeier could smell the stench, he didn’t feel any discomfort.
Somewhere, a missing corner slowly dripped water droplets.
But when the droplets hit the ground, they didn’t make a crisp sound. Instead, they seemed to sink into a quagmire, gurgling and then hissing like someone drowning.
That sound in the empty darkness was especially chaotic. Waves bounced repeatedly off the stone walls and crisscrossed wildly, sending the three death row inmates into a frenzied state.
They howled, making whimpering sounds like fighting dogs before a fight.
Their bodies were bound by “Absolute Authority,” and their howls became torn and hoarse, as if they were trying to howl blood.
“Stop yelling! So noisy!”
Lafeier roared, and the three inmates, along with the water droplet, fell silent.
After walking for about two minutes, they reached the end of the Death Prison.
At the end, Lafeier saw a silver statue covered in filth. “Isn’t this the Holy Son Statue?”
Lafeier went over, touched it a couple of times, and tested its weight. “Wow, solid silver!”
“Good, good, good. I’ve hit the jackpot this time.”
“I really didn’t come here in vain!”
Just as he was about to order the three death row inmates to move the silver statue, a white light suddenly flashed from the corner.
Following that was a phantom, charging straight at Lafeier.
He activated Pressure, but it was ineffective. Absolute Authority, also ineffective.
“What the hell! It really is a ghost!”
Without a second thought, Lafeier turned and ran.
Pressure and Absolute Authority only worked on living beings; they were useless against such bizarre, weird things.
The three death row inmates also followed behind Lafeier, scrambling back to the entrance of Death Row.
“Next time…” Lafeier gasped for breath. “Next time, I’ll use that Omniscient Perspective to look first before investigating in person. Too scary.”
Estina was waiting at the entrance. Seeing Lafeier’s pale face, she quickly asked:
“Lord, what happened?”
Lafeier waved his hand. “Nothing. What is that silver statue at the very end of Death Prison?”
“The very end?” Estina was a bit confused. “There’s nothing at the very end.”
