Chapter 36: Level Four Zombie

Song Xue’er paled even further upon hearing Fang Rui’s blunt words, the despair and helplessness she had felt earlier when facing a horde of Zombies flooding back to her.

“No need to worry…” 

Fang Rui noticed her unease and said with a smile, 

“From what I can see, your little boyfriend here is no ordinary guy. His awakening level is quite high too. Though he might be slightly weaker than me in strength, his reflexes and speed are impressive. You just need to keep your little boyfriend happy and let him protect you.”

“I…” 

Song Xue’er blushed instantly, but a stubborn streak rose in her heart. 

Having trained in martial arts since childhood, she wasn’t the type to cower in fear at danger—she had faced Zombies head-on and fought them before. 

She wasn’t some fragile girl who would just scream in terror.

“I’ll awaken too, one day!” she declared confidently.

“Is that so…” 

Fang Rui shot Lin Mo a playful glance, winking at him meaningfully.

She hadn’t denied it, after all.

“If that’s the case, does that mean humanity will have to rely on the awakened from now on?” 

Lin Mo, oblivious to the implication, shifted the topic instead.

“Exactly. Right now, the military and government are also heavily investing in training awakened individuals. Regular soldiers can still handle ordinary Zombies, but stronger ones are beyond what ordinary people can fight.”

“Stronger Zombies?” 

Lin Mo caught the key phrase immediately.

“Right, like— Huh?!” 

Fang Rui was about to explain when his expression suddenly stiffened, his whole body tensing up.

At the same time, Lin Mo also sensed a chilling killing intent locking onto them.

“Whoosh-!” 

Without any warning, a blurry figure suddenly charged toward them. 

Lin Mo instinctively raised his arm to block, only to realize the shadow wasn’t aiming for him—it was heading straight for Song Xue’er, who stood behind him, still clueless about what was happening.

“Watch out!” 

Lin Mo’s pupils contracted as he swiftly sidestepped, his superhuman speed flaring up instantly as he delivered a powerful kick toward the shadow.

“Thud-!” 

With a dull impact, Lin Mo was actually sent flying backward, skidding several meters before barely regaining his footing. 

“What the…” 

Lin Mo’s face twisted in shock. What was this thing? How was it so strong?

Having failed its first strike, the creature finally revealed itself.

Familiar crimson eyes, familiar sharp fangs, a low growl rumbling in its throat-it was a Zombie!

 Lin Mo was stunned. 

This Zombie’s stats completely outclassed his own, and…

“This is what I meant by stronger Zombies…” 

Fang Rui said with a bitter smile. 

“This one’s terrifyingly strong… and it even has some intelligence.”

“Intelligence?” 

Lin Mo was taken aback before noticing the Zombie’s Spirit stat wasn’t zero.

“Right. It knows to pick the weakest target first.” 

Fang Rui glanced at Song Xue’er behind them.

“What do we do now?” Lin Mo panicked slightly.

“What else can we do? Fight for our lives! You saw how fast that Zombie was just now. There’s no way we can outrun it…” 

A trace of bitterness flashed across Fang Rui’s face, quickly replaced by determination. 

“Damn it, I can’t die here!”

Lin Mo understood clearly. 

This Zombie was as fast as him, but unlike him, it never tired. 

If they really started running, he wouldn’t be able to outpace it. 

Besides, there was still Song Xue’er to consider…

They had no choice but to fight!
