“What are you doing with Class B’s school trip list?”
In the student council room, just as Suzuki Yuu was searching for the names of his troublesome friends in a computer file, preparing to delete them, he suddenly heard Jinguuin Amane’s question.
It startled him so much he almost jumped.
“Nothing much, just double-checking the list.”
He spoke hurriedly, forcing himself to act calm to hide his guilt.
But it was clear this wouldn’t fool Jinguuin Amane.
She smiled as she leaned closer to Suzuki, the corners of her mouth lifting, like a cunning cat eyeing a mouse, and spoke directly:
“You aren’t doing anything bad, are you?”
“Of course not, nothing like that. I’m only making sure the list is complete.”
Suzuki Yuu replied, and fortunately, he hadn’t actually acted yet; those friends’ names were still there.
“You’re really not planning anything shady?” Jinguuin Amane asked again.
“No, at least not right now.” Suzuki Yuu confirmed again.
When it came to shamelessness, no one was stronger than him.
Seeing his reaction, Jinguuin Amane couldn’t help but laugh:
“I know you’re not the obedient type. Otherwise, you wouldn’t keep ignoring my requests.”
Hearing her words, Suzuki Yuu realized that lately, he’d indeed been deliberately going against the student council’s arrangements.
“Well, since Hasegawa-senpai has shown obvious resistance, naturally I want to help her out.”
“How heartbreaking. Why isn’t my mood your first priority, Suzuki-kun?”
Jinguuin Amane sat back in her seat, deliberately putting on a pitiful expression.
What a drama queen…
Seeing her like that, Suzuki Yuu scratched his head.
“President Jinguuin doesn’t seem like someone who needs others to look after her.”
“That’s a bit mean, you know. Do I not look like a delicate girl to you?”
“You?”
If Suzuki Yuu didn’t know her skills, he might actually believe it.
“Suzuki-kun, you are my boyfriend after all. Running off to help another girl will make me jealous.”
Is she addicted to acting now?
Sometimes, Suzuki Yuu had to admire Jinguuin Amane’s abilities.
As a proper young lady, she acted completely uninhibited around him, often saying wild things just to make him uncomfortable.
“President, can you pay a little more attention to your demeanor? You’re supposed to be our school’s perfect girl.”
“A perfect girl who can’t even keep her boyfriend isn’t all that perfect, is she?”
Suzuki Yuu felt like he’d been cornered, so he let out a long sigh and said:
“You win, President. I can’t out-talk you.”
Of course, even at times like this, he didn’t forget to be cheeky:
“But still, being the student council president’s boyfriend—no matter how you look at it, I got a pretty good deal.”
“Is that so? Should I help spread the word for you among the first-years?”
When she said this, Suzuki Yuu froze, staring at Jinguuin Amane in disbelief.
Is she serious?
As a young lady, doesn’t she know she needs to protect her own reputation?
Isn’t that how it always goes on TV dramas?
“No, that’s not necessary,” Suzuki Yuu replied.
He could already picture his friends’ faces in his mind.
If she even so much as mentioned it at school, even as a joke or said he was just a “rental,” he’d still be strung up and beaten for days.
At the same time, to end this awkward topic, Suzuki Yuu didn’t wait for her response and quickly changed the subject:
“By the way, Senpai, what did you think of my performance? Not bad, right?”
Suzuki Yuu put on an expectant look. Of course, he knew he was nowhere near her level.
No matter how he tried, there was still a world of difference between them.
And Jinguuin Amane’s answer was just as he expected:
“Your effort is commendable, but there are still quite a few flaws. Still, outsiders probably wouldn’t notice.”
“That’s pretty tactful of you.”
“Of course, there are still some things I have to maintain my manners for.”
So there are things where she doesn’t have to maintain her manners…
Suzuki Yuu silently grumbled in his heart.
“But, Suzuki-kun, I have a question for you. Are you… really a beginner?”
Jinguuin Amane’s tone shifted from her usual playfulness, and this time, her question sounded almost like an interrogation.
Her sudden seriousness caught Suzuki Yuu a bit off guard, but he knew with her sharpness, it was no surprise she’d notice something off.
He had already prepared an explanation:
“I’ve only really been learning seriously for about a month, but before that, I hung around the music club a lot, so I picked up some basics here and there.”
It was a vague lie. In reality, the only thing remotely related to music in his previous club was the game’s background music.
“Is that so? Then you really do have a talent, Suzuki-kun,” Jinguuin Amane pretended to believe him and followed his story.
“I think I’m just average, really. It’s just that when something interests me, I tend to focus on it.”
Suzuki Yuu replied with the kind of meaningless humblebrag you’d hear from every so-called successful person in interviews.
“That in itself is a talent,” Jinguuin Amane said. At that moment, she seemed to remember some kind of mischievous plan and smiled at the boy beside her:
“Speaking of which, this week, a music professor I met in middle school is meeting up with me. Do you want to come? He might be able to give you some pointers.”
Hearing this, Suzuki Yuu instantly remembered Hasegawa Aoi’s story about getting scolded by a professor back in middle school.
Could it be the same professor?
He immediately felt like this was some kind of trap being set for him.
If even someone at Hasegawa Aoi’s level was shot down, he didn’t stand a chance.
But on second thought, there was no real loss in going. Maybe he could even find out something useful.
After quickly weighing it in his mind, Suzuki Yuu agreed:
“Sure, when I went to the art exhibit with you last time, I actually thought it was pretty fun.”
Other than meeting strange people, seeing strange models, and hearing strange stories…
Seeing him decide so quickly, Jinguuin Amane didn’t say much more, simply handing him an address.
“Hiroo district… The professor lives in a place like this? Must be loaded.”
Looking at the address, if Suzuki Yuu remembered right, the land prices there were pretty high…
Of course, he always thought that place was flashy but superficial.
Hearing his words, Jinguuin Amane’s eyes flashed slyly:
“Why do you think that’s where the professor lives?”
“Hmm? Aren’t you going there because he invited you?”
“Of course not. He’s hardly important enough for me to go out of my way and waste my time.”
Hearing this, Suzuki Yuu started to get a bad feeling:
“So, President, you mean this place…”
“It’s where I live for now. You could call it my home.”
