“Do you need me to show you around campus for a bit? Or should we just head back to the dorm?”
After the three of them finished their noodles and Ye Hui paid the bill, she asked about the next arrangements.
Ning Mu exchanged a look with Bai Yurou.
Bai Yurou had just finished eating.
According to her biological clock, she needed to take a short nap after meals, otherwise she might fall into a coma in the afternoon.
“Um, I want to head back first. Why don’t you two go look around?”
The frail young girl proposed softly.
“There’s nothing much worth looking around for, is there? We’ll be living here for four years. We’re not short on this little bit of time right now.”
Seeing that Bai Yurou didn’t want to wander, Ning Mu followed right after.
Ye Hui nodded at that and simply said calmly, “Then let’s go back.”
The three of them walked out of the noodle shop.
On the way back to the dorm, they passed a department store.
“Want to buy some things?”
Ning Mu proposed.
“You two go ahead. I don’t need anything.”
Ye Hui waved her hand, indicating she would wait for them outside.
Bai Yurou was also quite curious and wanted to take a look at the school’s department store, so she went in together with Ning Mu.
The moment they entered the store, Ning Mu proposed they split up to shop and meet up at the cashier after picking out their things.
Bai Yurou browsed until she arrived at the daily necessities section.
Since the store was right next to the dorms, it naturally had toothbrushes, washbasins, quilts, and all sorts of toiletries, providing convenience for freshmen who hadn’t brought everything.
Unfortunately Bai Yurou didn’t need these.
Her mother had already stuffed her suitcase full before she set out, packing both things she would use in the next four years and things she might not.
She had even thoughtfully instructed her, “Rou Rou, if you don’t know how to make the bed, just call your brother and have him come to school to help you.”
At the time she had hurriedly refused.
If others found out that the famous domineering CEO Bai Sihan had personally come to school to make a bed for a girl, where would her face at school go?
Besides, she wasn’t some truly helpless frail young miss who couldn’t do anything.
At the very least she had the ability to live independently.
Making a bed was something she could still complete smoothly.
Bai Yurou looked around again.
There were also seasonings like soy sauce, oyster sauce, and salt.
After all, the dorm had a kitchen, so of course they could cook.
She herself actually knew how to cook—a skill Lin Ye had acquired in the orphanage.
But if she was going to buy, she would need to buy a frying pan and vegetables and such as well. It was troublesome.
Moreover, even if she cooked, it would be best to ask the other three for their opinions first.
Cooking a meal just for herself would be more hassle than simply going out to eat or ordering takeout.
So Bai Yurou temporarily abandoned that idea and shifted her gaze from the daily necessities section to the snack section.
She had congenital heart disease, so there weren’t many snacks she could eat.
Her parents basically never let her touch these things either.
The desserts she ate at home were basically all specially made by Mama Wang with healthy ingredients.
Things like chocolate and cola would only add extra burden to her heart.
Bai Yurou’s gaze swept past the potato chips and chocolate, and finally she picked a bag of whole-wheat biscuits from a corner.
Then she arrived at the cashier. On the other side, Ning Mu had also finished buying her things.
Seeing what Ning Mu had bought, Bai Yurou was startled.
Potato chips, cola, chewing gum, dried little fish… and even a whole case of mineral water.
There was so much that she had simply pushed a small shopping cart out from the store.
Bai Yurou held the bag of whole-wheat biscuits in her hand and looked at Ning Mu’s “full Manchu-Han banquet.”
“Do you need to buy that much?” Bai Yurou couldn’t help asking.
“Just treating it like stocking up.” Ning Mu patted the cart handle.
“These little snacks we can eat together. Later I’ll put them in the living room, and whoever wants some can just take them. As for the mineral water, sometimes I’m too lazy to boil water, so drinking this directly is convenient.”
The school dorms were actually equipped with electric kettles, but Bai Yurou had to admit that sometimes she also preferred drinking mineral water.
Even though her mother often told her that plain boiled water was healthier than mineral water.
For Bai Yurou, mineral water didn’t need to be poured out, and she didn’t need to wait for it to cool.
It saved a lot of trouble. The only hassle was that twisting open the bottle cap took a bit of effort.
With this frail body of hers, she had to put in some strength every time she twisted one open.
Bai Yurou scanned the shopping cart and found that most of the snacks were types this patient of hers couldn’t eat, but she didn’t say it out loud.
Just because she didn’t eat them didn’t mean Ning Mu, Ye Hui, and Cai Xiaotong couldn’t either.
She couldn’t make the entire dorm accommodate her alone.
Ning Mu was buying these snacks to share precisely because she felt she got along well with Ye Hui, and Cai Xiaotong was also a friend she knew.
Their relationships with each other were all pretty good, so she felt at ease buying them to share.
“Then how are you planning to take all this back?”
Bai Yurou asked the question she had wanted to ask the moment she saw the small cart.
With so many snacks and a whole case of water, just the two of them as girls—even if they called Ye Hui—wouldn’t have enough hands, right?
“You can rest assured about that.” Ning Mu had clearly already thought it through.
“I just asked the cashier. She said the small cart can be temporarily borrowed. We just need to find time to return it later.”
Only then did Bai Yurou notice that this department store was right next to the dorms.
The main customers were students, so providing this kind of borrowing service wasn’t strange.
Then the two paid the bill. Bai Yurou also put her bag of biscuits into the small cart, telling Ning Mu that her bag of biscuits could be shared as well.
Outside the store, Ye Hui was looking down at her phone.
Hearing the movement, she raised her head.
Her gaze fell on the completely full small cart Ning Mu was pushing, and she froze slightly, clearly not expecting her to buy this much.
Ning Mu repeated what she had just said to Bai Yurou.
After listening, Ye Hui nodded.
“Then next time I’ll buy. We can’t always let you treat alone.”
Ning Mu smiled faintly. “Next time we can go AA. This time just treat it as my treat.”
“Will that friend of yours mind?” Ye Hui asked.
“We’ll ask her when she comes.”
Ning Mu also knew she couldn’t make the decision for Cai Xiaotong.
It depended on whether she herself was willing to share snacks with them.
The few of them returned to the building where the dorm was.
The security guard at the entrance saw Ning Mu pushing the small cart and didn’t say much, simply letting them in.
“I almost thought it was still like high school, where they wouldn’t let us bring snacks in.”
While waiting for the elevator, Ning Mu said to Bai Yurou.
Bai Yurou deeply shared the same feeling. She had Lin Ye’s memories.
In Ning Mu’s high school, whoever got caught bringing snacks would not only have them confiscated but also have to write a self-criticism.
As for her own high school life, it hadn’t been that strict.
But that wasn’t because the school’s rules were loose—it was because no one dared to be strict with the little princess of the Bai family.
After all, if they were strict today and accidentally made the little princess cry, then how much sponsorship money the school would still have tomorrow, and whether it could even continue operating, would become a question.
Back at the dorm, Ye Hui first greeted the two and then returned to her room alone.
Bai Yurou also told Ning Mu that she was going back to her room to take a nap.
The moment she entered the room, Bai Yurou turned on the air conditioner and plugged in her phone to charge.
Then she simply lay down and covered herself with the air-conditioning blanket.
Although the bed and bedding weren’t as comfortable as at home, making do for a bit didn’t matter.
She wasn’t some true young miss with a temper who absolutely had to be particular about beds.
Back in the orphanage she hadn’t even had a proper bed or blanket, and she had still slept just fine.
Before long, Bai Yurou fell into a deep sleep.
