The Magical Girl Management Bureau was originally a private company established by individuals. Its purpose was to deal with sudden anomalies and monsters, more like emergency rescue work.
But as the situation with magical girls intensified, local media could no longer cover up the truth, and the existence of magical girls was exposed.
Back then, the public wasn’t like it is now—they still held some fear and apprehension toward them.
So later, the government stepped in, acquiring and reorganizing various private entities to form the current Magical Girl Management Bureau.
Its scope of operations gradually expanded and extended to a range of incidents caused by magical girls, including anomalies and monsters.
In addition, the Bureau was granted priority handling rights and control rights in emergency situations. In practice, it was closer to a combination of a police station and a fire department.
The reason they chose to name it “Management Bureau” rather than something else was because…
“Because what?” Wuhua couldn’t wait for Mingji to answer and asked ahead.
“You’re really impatient.” Mingji let out a soft snort on the other end of the call. “I never noticed you cared so much about this before.”
“Well, now it’s something that concerns me directly,” Wuhua explained.
“And if I don’t get back soon, Lianying might come looking for me.”
As he spoke, Wuhua looked out the vent window at Lianying waiting for him under the shade of the trees. He’d made an excuse to go to the bathroom and took the opportunity to report to Mingji.
“I see… Ah, back to the topic.” Mingji indicated understanding and continued to add.
Regarding the Magical Girl Management Bureau, there was a well-known operational policy within the industry.
They would privately send agents to make contact with magical girls whose real identities had been exposed, establishing connections. They would then monitor and control the girls’ personal information and every action.
Currently, there were three main types of magical girls in society:
The first type fully accepted the Bureau’s approach, becoming certified and assigned a number—the “Cooperative Faction.”
The second type established contact with the Bureau but refused to accept management—the “Neutral Faction.”
The third type resisted Bureau involvement, and the two sides were generally hostile—the “Opposition Faction.”
“So that’s why it’s called the Management Bureau.” Wuhua nodded in realization after hearing Mingji’s explanation. “You sure know a lot, Mingji.”
“That’s also why the company sent me to assist you and the plan.” Mingji paused, then added:
“I don’t know which faction Lianying and the others belong to, but to be safe, you’d better be more careful.”
“Is it really that dangerous? Magical girls—Lianying and the others—they have the so-called Miracle Power, right?” Wuhua thought she was overreacting.
“It’s not that simple. Normal weapons really don’t do much against Miracle Power, but.”
Mingji’s tone turned serious and stern, as if warning that the next part was the key.
“The Bureau also has its own magical girls, raised personally as a countermeasure. Using Miracle Power to counter Miracle Power has always been their first principle.”
…
…
“Li-Lianying… big sister, I’m back.” After a while, Wuhua jogged back to Lianying’s side.
The information and background he’d gotten from Mingji helped him understand Lianying’s situation. Seeing someone from the Bureau would naturally make her nervous and confused.
‘Come to think of it… I’m a magical girl now too, aren’t I?’ He even felt a bit sympathetic.
“Huh? Qinglan and Xicheng big sisters are here too.” He noticed that the two who had gone to buy drinks earlier had also returned.
“Here you go, Wuhua. You must be thirsty after walking around so long.” Xicheng handed him a glass of fresh milk in place of Qinglan. Then she looked at the two who were talking.
“—I’ve confirmed with her. They detected an anomalous reaction at the amusement park today, so they deployed in advance and prepared countermeasures.” Qinglan hung up the phone and said to Lianying beside her.
“Anomalous reaction? …Miao Ke didn’t say anything this morning.” Lianying frowned in suspicion. “I haven’t had that eerie feeling either.”
“Hmm… They said it was a reaction. Actually, it was through their intelligence network. They learned about the activities of the Wandering Girls.” Qinglan shrugged helplessly.
“They thought they would make a move, but now it seems they’re not interested.”
“Preventing trouble before it happens, but now it’s backfiring, huh?” Lianying commented indifferently. “Seriously, even our rare holiday has to be dragged into this. I hope Xiaohua doesn’t…”
Only then did she notice Wuhua had returned. Lianying quickly changed the subject. “Xiaohua, you’re back. Come on, let’s go to the next ride.”
“But, the Bureau…” Xicheng looked worriedly at the armed personnel in the distance who didn’t seem ready to leave.
“It’s fine. It won’t involve us.” Qinglan told her not to worry. “Remember, we’re just here to have fun today.”
“Hmm… You’re right.” The gloom on her face cleared. Xicheng nodded to Wuhua and her two companions.
“Let’s go. Our holiday isn’t over yet.”
And so, under a gentle breeze and a sunny afternoon, three—no, four magical girls walked together through the amusement park, accompanied by the Bureau.
After trying almost every ride, they unknowingly arrived at the giant Ferris wheel that could be glimpsed even from far away at Lianying’s home.
It stood alone in a corner of the park, capable of holding over a hundred people at once.
“It just so happens there are four of us today. Let’s give it a try.” Qinglan proposed this time. Compared to adrenaline-pumping excitement, she preferred quiet sightseeing like this.
“Yeah. I usually hate to spend money on this.” Lianying agreed. She took Wuhua’s hand and sat at the very back, facing the two who followed.
The Ferris wheel rose slowly, taking them higher and higher, up to the sky they usually looked up to.
“Wow… everyone down there looks like ants,” Wuhua said, legs braced on the seat and face pressed against the glass, looking down at the amusement park.
“Look! This is the keychain I bought at the gift shop just now. Is it a capybara?” Xicheng showed off her trophy.
“Really? I thought it was a beaver or an otter.” Qinglan examined it closely, as if she had a unique opinion.
As for Lianying.
“Wow, they really do look like ants.” She leaned close to Wuhua, occasionally glancing at his face—a smile that made her feel the whole trip to the amusement park had been worth it.
This giant Ferris wheel took half an hour to complete one rotation. Just looking at the scenery would inevitably make one drowsy and tired.
“(Yawn)” Wuhua obediently sat in his seat, tears glistening at the corners of his eyes. He nodded wearily. Today had been the most active day he’d had in a while.
“Tired, huh? Still a bit of a ways from the ground.” Qinglan glanced out to check.
“Well, Wuhua has been running around with us all day.” As she said this, Xicheng suddenly had a great idea and winked at Lianying.
“Huh? R-right now?” Startled, Lianying took a flower-shaped metal accessory from her pocket.
“…Not asking you to transform. Come closer.” Xicheng whispered something into Lianying’s ear.
Visibly, her cheeks flushed without any makeup.
“Ugh… Doing this in front of you is still a bit embarrassing.”
Even so, Lianying leaned closer to Wuhua, who was too sleepy to even hear what they were saying.
“Xi-Xiaohua. Stand up for a second,” Lianying said softly, making the dazed Wuhua leave his seat.
“Okay… good, come sit with big sister.” She then had him sit on her lap and placed his head on her shoulder.
“Sleep, sleep. Big sister will wake you up later.” Lianying whispered into Wuhua’s ear, placing her right hand on his thigh and gently patting him.
Whether it was because he was already tired or because this age-old method worked better than any other, Wuhua fell asleep without even realizing it.
“You’re… really good at that.” Qinglan blushed as she watched the whole thing. “It really feels like you’re a mother.”
“Hehe… As expected of Lianying. Our leader is amazing even at taking care of children.” Xicheng smiled contentedly, looking at them with joy.
“It-it’s not like it’s my first time putting someone to sleep.” Feeling teased, Lianying couldn’t help complaining. “You guys are definitely just messing with me.”
Even so, the next second, Lianying smiled as she looked down at Wuhua sleeping in her arms.
In the distance, the sea horizon glowed with the setting sun. The world was dyed orange, and the afterglow shone around them.
The girls’ holiday was gradually drawing to a close.
