The Beast God’s friend?
Vira frowned as she looked at Truth, who seemed harmless at first glance.
So the Beast God actually had a friend like this? Why had she never heard Him mention it before?
And for some reason, Vira always felt an inexplicable sense of unfathomable depth from Truth, and she also felt that the latter possessed a certain aggressiveness.
She looked like the type to play the pig and eat the tiger no matter how you looked at her.
However, most of these concerns quickly dissipated when Vira saw the clothing Truth was wearing. She squinted and carefully examined the latter’s priest robe,
……
Isn’t this the priest robe of the Church of the Goddess of Life? And why would the Beast God suddenly be hanging around with someone from the Goddess of Life’s side?
No matter how she thought about it, it felt strange… It was common knowledge that priests weren’t aggressive, but what if this silver-haired girl wasn’t actually a real priest?
But since the Beast God had already said the silver-haired girl was His friend, she probably wasn’t some kind of evil person either…
A smile spread across Vira’s face as she slowly walked toward Truth and the Beast God.
At the same time, she sniffed very discreetly, trying to pick up something from the scent radiating off Truth, then said:
“This is a bit of a surprise, I didn’t expect one of the Beast God’s friends to come visiting today.”
But after sniffing for quite a while, Vira discovered that Truth had no scent at all.
The entire Frozen Temple was filled with nothing but the Beast God’s aura. Could it be that her true body wasn’t even here?
Keeping her composure, Vira performed a greeting gesture that humans could understand before Truth:
“Hello, I’m Vira. May I ask whether I should call you Predecessor or…”
Because Truth’s appearance was so deceptive, Vira couldn’t determine whether this little one was an existence on the same level as the Beast God or just an ordinary little priest.
To this, Truth tilted her head and unabashedly looked Vira up and down. Hmm… she felt a lot like Wilona, but compared to that little kitten Wilona, this big cat had a much more intellectual and mature temperament. Getting along with her should be pretty comfortable, right?
But looking at this one’s expression, she seemed like the cunning and calculating type. Was she some kind of big shot again?
Then Truth turned to the Beast God and asked:
“What is this big cat saying? Translate it for me.”
She couldn’t understand Orc Language.
“Uh…” The Beast God didn’t say much and immediately prepared to translate Vira’s words, but before He could speak, Vira quickly said in the Human Common Language:
“I’m terribly sorry, I didn’t know you couldn’t speak Orc Language. Allow me to introduce myself again. I’m Vira, one of the Beast God’s Envoys. May I ask whether I should call you Predecessor, or…”
“My name is Truth. Five hundred years old. I’m a priest.”
“Five… five hundred?!”
Vira’s upright cat ears twitched as she showed an expression of disbelief. A five-hundred-year-old priest? There wasn’t even a Goddess of Life five hundred years ago, was there?! Then how did she become a priest?
So was this little priest lying or not? Claiming to be a five-hundred-year-old priest right off the bat, yet looking like someone who hadn’t even grown her feathers yet…
Vira immediately turned her head and shot a questioning look at the Beast God. However, the Beast God didn’t deny it either. He just shook His head very secretly at Vira, indicating that she shouldn’t mind matters of age.
The Beast God had originally wanted to warn Vira that Truth was dangerous and she’d better not provoke her. But if He said that, then Vira would definitely become suspicious of Truth and eventually figure out that she was a Blood Demon. So He absolutely had to nip Vira’s suspicion in the bud right here!
This was entirely for Vira’s sake and the world’s sake…
After receiving the Beast God’s hint, Vira let out an awkward laugh and grumbled inwardly:
Age is absolutely something to mind! Not to mention how important it is for us females, but if I don’t object now, then I’d have to call this little priest Truth “Predecessor” or “Grandma” or something next, wouldn’t I? Please, I’m the ruler of an empire here!
“Haha, is it because you take good care of yourself? You really don’t look five hundred years old at all. I’m so envious. Does that mean I should be calling you ‘Grandma Truth’?” Vira said as she looked at Truth.
“Just call me Elder Sister Truth.” Truth raised her chin, hands on her hips, and said smugly, as if doing Vira a favor.
Little brat… Vira gritted her teeth inwardly. Can’t she understand my hint? This is nothing like what a five-hundred-year-old should act like!
From what she remembered, humans generally became thoughtful and deliberate once they passed thirty, right? But this little priest had lived five hundred years, and yet she couldn’t sense any trace of world-weariness from her. No matter how she looked at it, this was just an underage little girl who loved talking nonsense!
What to do? With the Beast God present, she couldn’t really say anything. But how could a great Empress be expected to call an underage little priest “Elder Sister”?! If word of this got out, where would her authority go? Where would the name of Grand Lord stand? The only one above her had been the Beast God, and now suddenly another little priest had appeared, which was honestly hard to accept.
Unless the little priest could prove whether she actually had the strength to deserve being called “Elder Sister”…
Just as the atmosphere was gradually turning cold, Truth continued:
“Oh right, are you Wilona’s older sister or Wilona’s mother? You two look pretty similar. Or are you the same breed of cat as her?”
“Huh? You know Wilona? I’m her mother.”
“Oh—I see…” Truth suddenly revealed a look of anticipation, as if calculating something involving Vira and her daughter in her mind. Right after that, the Beast God also promptly sensed that something was terribly wrong.
It was one thing if Wilona got taken away, but if Vira got taken too… So the Beast God asked Vira somewhat hastily:
“Vira, what did you come to see me about today? If it’s not important, we can discuss it later—”
“It’s something very important!” Vira looked seriously at the Beast God, then glanced at Truth beside her, indicating that it was best not to have irrelevant people overhear before discussing important matters.
The Beast God understood, but unfortunately He didn’t have the guts to drive Truth away…
“How important is it? Are you in some kind of trouble, Little Vira?” It was Truth who spoke up voluntarily, acting as if she wasn’t an outsider at all:
“You can tell me about it. Maybe I can help you solve it.”
Little Vira… Upon hearing this form of address, Vira’s cat ears drooped straight down. She really did want to teach this little priest a lesson, but she currently had no idea what the other party’s actual strength was. On top of that, the Beast God hadn’t said anything or given any warning…
Alright, looks like she’d have to probe on her own!
So Vira put on a delighted expression and tried to grasp Truth’s hand gratefully:
“Oh really, Elder Sister? But this matter is really very dangerous. I’m afraid you’d get hurt, and that wouldn’t be good… Huh?”
Before she could finish speaking, Vira’s hands, which had tried to grasp Truth’s, simply passed right through her. The latter was like a ghost that could be seen but not touched, making Vira show a shocked expression:
“You’re not a physical body?!”
That was what she said, but Vira had already anticipated it in her heart: Just as I thought, not a physical body!
The Beast God also quickly explained before Truth could speak:
“Because… she’s a priest, you see. If Truth had to climb all the way up here from the foot of the mountain, it would be no different from walking to her death. Fortunately, Truth’s Soul Power is extremely strong, so I was able to project her Mind Projection here. Isn’t that right, Truth?”
“Hmph…” Truth shot the Beast God a sidelong glare but didn’t deny it.
And Vira took all of this in. This little priest… seemed to have a bit of disrespect for the Beast God… Vira continued probing:
“Yes, Elder Sister Truth. Things in the Northern Region are all very dangerous. As a priest, you’d best not get involved in this matter. Oh, by the way, could you tell me your Rank?”
“Second Rank.” Truth replied without hesitation.
Second… Rank… Vira was stunned for several seconds. Finally, she could barely hold herself together.
Are you telling me that I, the Empress of the Northern Empire, a Beast God Envoy, a Nine-Tier Tan You Cat, have been calling a Second-Rank Priest “Elder Sister” this whole time?!
And if a priest could really live five hundred years, then even if she’d spent all that time healing ants, she should at least be Intermediate Rank by now! Vira looked at the Beast God once more, this time with obvious resentment on her face. She felt she’d been pranked.
Fortunately, the Beast God reacted quickly. He extended a claw and pointed at His own head, signaling:
This little priest isn’t quite right in the head. Don’t mind her.
