That night, after working up a sweat practicing piano in the music room, Lu Yunze took a refreshing shower, planning to head back to his room and spend some quality time gaming on his computer.
He had promised Xiao Lin theyโd team up tonight, and he couldnโt let him down.
Just as he was carrying his water cup into the living room, he suddenly heard the doorbell ring from outside.
“A guest?”
A servant happened to be coming in from outside and hurried over to Lu Yunze as soon as he saw him.
“Young Master, a police officer has come to see you. He says itโs urgent.”
“A police officer?”
“He said his name is Wang Xu, claims to know you, and is waiting outside right now.”
Why has Wang Xu come back again?
Perplexed, Lu Yunze told the servant to bring him in and went to receive him in the main hall.
Unlike Lu Yunze, who had just showered, Wang Xu entered in a hurry, looking flustered, his police uniform soaked with sweat.
“Chief Wang, is there something else?” Lu Yunze asked. “If youโre still here to take Jiang Sui away, I think youโd better leave. Youโre not welcome here.”
“No, weโve made an important discovery.”
Wang Xu didnโt even have time to wipe his sweat after sitting down, his words coming out in short breaths.
“We found the Butlerโs corpse.”
“What?”
“And we also found the murderer. He claims to be from the Luo Family. Weโre suspicious, so we came back to confirm with you.”
Lu Yunze thought for a moment before standing up.
“Take me to see.”
“Alright.”
A member of the Luo Family? If itโs someone from the main family who came to Lan City, there should only be him and Luo Yao. Could it be someone is lying about their identity to divert attention?
No matter what, Lu Yunze felt someone had to get to the bottom of this.
It was late, and he didnโt want to bother Luo Yao, so he volunteered to take on this task.
But the commotion in the main hall quickly spread through the manor, and even Luo Yao, who was in her third-floor bedroom, came down before he left.
“Brother Lu, where are you going this late?” Luo Yao, dressed in a nightgown, leaned on the stair railing, her still-damp black hair looking a bit messy.
Hearing the worry in her voice, Lu Yunze hurried to explain:
“Iโm just going with Chief Wang to investigate something. It concerns the Luo Familyโs reputation, so you wonโt stop me, right?”
“If Brother Lu insists on going, I wonโt stop you.”
Luo Yao sighed, clearly still uneasy.
“Brother Lu, be careful. Donโt try to act tough.”
“Okay.”
After speaking, Lu Yunze went upstairs to change. Passing by a room on the second floor, he subconsciously glanced in its direction.
After some thought, he decided not to bother Jiang Sui. He didnโt want to drag her into this.
Back in his bedroom, he quickly took off his pajamas, and something fell out of the pocket, rolling across the floor with a clatter.
It was the “lucky seed” Jiang Sui had given him.
Lu Yunze picked it up, recalling the scene when that girl gave it to him, and decided to tuck it into his pants pocket.
Speaking of blessings, Lu Yunze thought of another important item, something he had kept locked in a drawer for years.
It was a four-leaf clover-shaped necklace. Because of its age, the green gemstone inlaid on it had lost its luster and was covered in dark spots.
Though it was an old necklace, Lu Yunze handled it gently, his fingers softly brushing over the gemโs surface.
This was given to him by that girl back then. The four-leaf clover represents luck. Maybe it was because of its blessing that Lu Yunze had survived until now.
“I wonder how youโre doing these days. Are you also surrounded by good luck?”
After murmuring to himself, Lu Yunze put on the necklace, then donned a shirt and tucked it beneath the collar.
Once he was dressed, Lu Yunze ran out of his room, followed Wang Xu out of the manor, and got into the police car heโd driven.
At the same time, behind a certain second-floor window, two pairs of eyes were fixed on the departing vehicle.
“I told you, they really left.”
Jiang Sui leaned against the window frame, her right leg swinging gently, the heel of her black leather shoe brushing the sill as she smiled at the Black Cat.
“Can you predict the future?” the Black Cat asked, full of doubt.
“Itโs just proper deduction, thatโs all.”
Jiang Sui joked, then jumped down from the windowsill, landing lightly.
She flipped her ponytail loose, letting her waterfall-like ash-brown hair cascade down her back.
“Since theyโre gone, itโs our turn to act. We canโt miss this show.”
After getting into Chief Wangโs car, Lu Yunze began asking about how they found the corpse and the murderer.
“We found them in a remote factory.”
Wang Xu, driving, occasionally glanced at Lu Yunze in the back seat through the rearview mirror.
“One of our officers was tailing a suspicious person and followed him there, and saw the stolen corpse with his own eyes.”
“What does this so-called Luo Family member look like?”
“Wellโฆ not tall, but not short either, rather thin, and a face Iโve never seen before.”
Hearing this description, Lu Yunze felt even more at a loss, trying to match the face with someone in his memory, but none fit.
Sure enough, heโd have to see the person himself to be certain.
Or maybe, it wasnโt a Luo Family member at all. If that were the case, itโd save a lot of trouble.
As the car drove through the bustling part of the city, Lu Yunze clutched the lucky seed in his pocket, watching the traffic outside, feeling as if he and those people lived in two different worlds.
“Mr. Lu, are you nervous?” Wang Xu suddenly asked.
“A little.”
Otherwise, he wouldnโt have bothered to wear Jiang Suiโs lucky seed and that four-leaf clover necklace.
Even though heโd survived a life-or-death battle at the Police Station, Lu Yunze still couldnโt help his heart racing in situations like this, unsure if it was from nerves or excitement.
After the fight with the Butler, even Lu Yunze was surprised at how much his strength had grown. He hadnโt practiced at all these years, not even used any Secret Art.
Power that grows on its own?
If thatโs the case, Lu Yunze wasnโt sure if it was a blessing or a curse.
Heโd gotten used to living as an ordinary person. If people found out he had such talent, he might spend the rest of his life dragged into the whirlpool of Secret Arts, just like his parents back then.
“Mr. Lu, you donโt need to be nervous. Itโs not as complicated as you think.”
“Yeah, youโre right.”
With that one sentence, Wang Xu helped Lu Yunze calm down a bit. Thereโd definitely be other officers at the scene, maybe even Secret Arts Practitionersโฆ
“Did you notify the Execution Department of Arcane Arts?”
As soon as he asked this, Wang Xu in the front seat glanced up at him, then looked back at the road.
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Would you really want to make a big scene over something like this, Mr. Lu?”
“โฆ”
If it were Luo Yao, sheโd probably be happy to hear that, but Lu Yunze couldnโt smile.
Family reputation, again. Everyone valued it so much.
Is it because Iโm an outsider that I never quite fit in?
No, not just me.
Lu Yunze thought of Jiang Sui. Sheโd probably feel the same way, but she wasnโt here to argue with Chief Wang.
The car left the city, and the scenery gradually changed from bright skyscrapers to wild fields.
Almost there. Itโs pretty remote.
Just then, Lu Yunzeโs phone rang, and he answered it.
“Hello?” Whatever he heard, Lu Yunze pressed his lips together.
“What is it?”
“Credit card telemarketer.” Lu Yunze calmly put his phone away.
Two minutes later, the car finally stopped. As Wang Xu had said, they were now at an abandoned factory.
But it was eerily quiet. There were no police officers lurking around, nor any sign of the murderer whoโd stolen the corpse.
“Weโre here, Mr. Lu.”
Wang Xu was about to open the door and get out, but Lu Yunze didnโt move.
“Who are you?”
“Hm?” Wang Xu froze.
“Youโre not Chief Wang. Who are you?” Lu Yunzeโs eyes had turned sharp at some point.
The call heโd just received wasnโt an adโit was from the Police Station, and the real Wang Xu was on the other end. Heโd said Lu Yunze should come to the Police Station tomorrow, as they still needed his cooperation for the case.
He could even hear other officers talking in the background. If Wang Xu was still at the station, then who was this man in front of him?
“By the way, the real Wang Xu is already bringing people here. You wonโt get away.”
“โWang Xuโ” froze for two seconds, then suddenly grinned darkly and jumped out of the car.
“Hey, stop right there!”
Lu Yunze tried to get out too, but found the car door wouldnโt open. A rotating six-pointed star appeared on the window.
This police car, under the effect of a Secret Art, had turned into a prison to trap him!
