Chapter 32: Before Departure

Early in the morning, when Lin Mo opened his eyes, Song Xue’er was crouching by the bed, watching him quietly.

“You didn’t stay up all night, did you?” 

Lin Mo was startled.

“How could I?” 

Song Xue’er smiled and shook her head.

Lin Mo glanced around the small room. 

Apart from the bed he was lying on, there wasn’t even a sofa. 

Come to think of it, last night seemed…

He shook his head, not daring to dwell on it further.

“Are you hungry?” Lin Mo asked.

“Even if I were, there’s no food left,” Song Xue’er replied with a bitter smile.

“Right…” 

Lin Mo scratched his head, then frowned again. 

Food was a major issue they had to face-whether it was to find Xiao Ya or simply to survive, they couldn’t do without it.

“Looks like we’ll have to find some food,” Lin Mo thought to himself.

He checked his experience bar: 3/20. 

Leveling up was still a long way off, but it was one of his top priorities. 

He wanted to see how the attribute growth worked-whether it would increase by one point, two points, three, or even double.

All of that would have to wait until the next level-up.

“Um… I’m going to look for food. Why don’t you wait here?” 

Lin Mo thought it was dangerous outside, with a high chance of encountering Zombies. 

Rather than bringing Song Xue’er along, it was better to let her stay here.

“No!” 

Song Xue’er reacted surprisingly strongly, gripping Lin Mo’s sleeve tightly with a look of determination, refusing to let go.

“Is that really necessary…? I’m not going to abandon you,” Lin Mo said helplessly.

“I don’t believe you! My mom said, ‘Men’s words are the devil’s lies!”

“…” 

Lin Mo’s lips twitched. 

“What kind of nonsense is that? It feels so weird… I’m not your—”

“I-I don’t care!” 

Song Xue’er seemed to realize her words were a bit inappropriate, her face flushing slightly, but she still refused to let go.

“I’m sticking with you no matter what!”

“Uh…” 

Lin Mo was speechless. 

Finally, he sighed and said, “Fine, fine, do whatever you want. As long as you’re happy, okay?” 

“What kind of attitude is that…?” 

Song Xue’er pouted, looking displeased.

After packing up, since they were moving together, Lin Mo decided not to return to the house. 

He picked up the slightly dull axe and stepped out the door.

He had already decided on their destination—a medium-sized supermarket not far away, with a nearby inn where they could stay for the night.

“Hey, let’s go.” 

Once everything was ready, Lin Mo turned to Song Xue’er.

“Oh, oh! Coming…” 

Song Xue’er’s voice sounded guilty as she hurriedly grabbed something before following.

Lin Mo glanced at what she was holding and couldn’t help but frown.

“It’s the apocalypse—why are you still carrying this stuff?”

In Song Xue’er’s hands were several bottles of makeup.

“What’s wrong with the apocalypse? Does the apocalypse mean people can’t care about beauty anymore?” 

Song Xue’er muttered under her breath, clutching the few bottles of scavenged cosmetics tightly in her hands.

“Alright, alright, just throw them away. They’re all low-quality makeup that’s bad for your skin. If you’re really that vain, couldn’t you just grab some from the supermarket?” Lin Mo said.

“You… who are you calling vain?!” 

Song Xue’er angrily slapped Lin Mo’s back, but she had to admit he had a point. 

With reluctant longing, she glanced at the cosmetics one last time before finally opening them one by one and hastily applying them to her face before tossing them aside.

“Pfft, look at you—you’ve smeared it all over…” 

Lin Mo remarked, watching as Song Xue’er haphazardly rubbed the makeup on her face.

“You-!” 

Song Xue’er bit her lip, glaring at Lin Mo in frustration.

She had never worn makeup before…
