Around ten in the morning on a certain day in August, two young women with very different styles of dress stood in front of the gates of Moon City University, each pulling a suitcase.
One was a petite girl in a white dress and a sun hat, looking as if a single breeze could knock her over and making people instinctively want to protect her.
The other wore a blue pleated skirt and stood a little taller.
Her long straight black hair fell behind her shoulders, pinned with a pink rabbit hair clip.
She wore no hat, and a few loose strands were lifted by the wind, revealing a clean and refreshing face.
Their appearance set off a wave of shock and discussion among the students on campus.
“Are these two new junior sisters?”
“So pretty. One’s the pure type, the other’s the energetic type.”
“The Moon City University campus belle ranking is about to change.”
“Does anyone know what department they’re in?”
The two girls being talked about were, of course, Bai Yurou and Ning Mu.
Today Ning Mu was in her usual everyday appearance.
Her earlier states at the funeral and the cosplay event had both been rather cold because of Lin Ye.
The two of them had agreed to go to Moon City University together today to register.
As for Cai Xiaotong? Hadn’t they agreed a couple of days ago to go together?
It wasn’t that the two of them were isolating her. She herself had refused to come.
The three of them shared the same major.
After joining the class group chat they discovered they had even been assigned to the same dormitory, so registering together would have been perfect.
Bai Yurou checked the weather forecast, found a decent day, and asked Ning Mu on WeChat whether she wanted to go that day.
Ning Mu agreed.
Bai Yurou then messaged Cai Xiaotong and asked if she wanted to register together as well.
Lin Yue: Want to go register together? This Wednesday.
Tong: Register?
Lin Yue: Yeah, school registration. Ning Mu is coming with us too.
Tong: You guys go ahead then. I’ll stay home a few more days and go by myself. Have fun together.
Just like that, Bai Yurou was rejected by Cai Xiaotong.
Bai Yurou felt that the reason Cai Xiaotong refused was because she had mentioned Ning Mu was coming along.
They were all locals, and staying home after registering was perfectly fine.
She was purely looking for an excuse not to go.
Does she dislike Ning Mu?
It doesn’t seem like it. At the cosplay event that day everyone got along happily.
Cai Xiaotong even gave Ning Mu a full set of cosplay clothes.
That doesn’t look like dislike at all.
Bai Yurou then specially messaged Ning Mu to ask about the situation.
Lin Yue: Did something happen between you and Cai Xiaotong?
Lemon: ?
Lemon: I haven’t seen her since that cosplay event.
Lin Yue: Then why doesn’t she want to go register together?
Lemon: Don’t know.
After talking it over, the two of them were certain it wasn’t their problem. It had to be Cai Xiaotong’s own issue.
After all, Bai Yurou often felt she couldn’t figure out this black-bellied loli’s train of thought.
But if she didn’t want to go, there was no forcing her. And for some reason, after hearing Cai Xiaotong’s refusal she even felt a little joy.
Time returned to the present.
The moment Bai Yurou and Ning Mu walked onto campus they saw quite a few temporary reception points set up along the roadside.
Crowds of seniors gathered in front of each one. Some held signs, some held name lists, and some were enthusiastically stuffing flyers into freshmen’s hands.
Direction signs stood in front of the points as well, white backgrounds with large black characters reading “XX College.”
The two peerless beauties walked through the welcoming avenue under countless gazes and headed straight for the Business School reception point.
The senior brothers of the college immediately perked up, and cheers rose one after another.
Under the tents of the neighboring colleges came successive sighs. If only such pretty junior sisters belonged to their own college.
“Junior sister, need me to help you register?”
“Junior sister, I can take you to the dormitory.”
“Junior sister, I’m very familiar with the campus. Want to tour it together and then let me treat you to a meal?”
The moment the two arrived, a large wave of Business School senior brothers surged forward and surrounded them.
Everyone wanted to seize the chance to get to know the junior sisters from the same college. Who knew, they might gain the advantage of proximity.
Bai Yurou was hemmed in on all sides and didn’t know what to do for a moment.
Instinctively she grabbed Ning Mu’s arm with both hands and leaned her whole body against her.
Ning Mu felt Bai Yurou leaning against her and only smiled faintly, letting her do as she pleased.
She knew this young miss was very timid and fragile, and she also found the girl leaning against her quite cute.
Ning Mu looked around and finally spotted a gap in the circle of senior brothers.
Beyond the gap stood a table with an open laptop, and behind it sat a girl with her head down, playing on her phone and wearing glasses.
“Excuse me, senior brothers, please make way.”
Ning Mu said it politely, then led Bai Yurou through the gap and walked straight to the table.
She smiled at the girl who was still looking down at her phone.
“Sorry, senior sister. We’re both freshmen. Could you help us register?”
If possible, Ning Mu wouldn’t have wanted to trouble anyone.
This senior sister wasn’t actively welcoming freshmen the way the others were.
She was just sitting in the back playing on her phone, clearly not very enthusiastic about reception work.
But the surroundings were full of guys, and Ning Mu naturally knew what they were thinking. She definitely wouldn’t ask them to register.
So she could only trouble this senior sister.
Just as Ning Mu expected, this senior sister—Lan Xinyue—was purely here to pad her credits.
She had originally planned to hide in the very back, scroll on her phone, and coast through it.
The Business School guys were always enthusiastic and fought over the chance to help freshmen, so it would never have been her turn.
But why did someone have to come looking for her? And a girl at that. Now she couldn’t pretend she hadn’t noticed.
Lan Xinyue had no choice but to reluctantly stop scrolling and look up.
The moment she saw the two of them her entire body froze, and the phone in her hand almost slipped.
“It’s… it’s you two?”
By then Bai Yurou had already noticed something was off and was no longer leaning on Ning Mu. She exchanged a look with Ning Mu, both of them a little bewildered.
This senior sister knew them? But she had no impression of the girl with glasses in front of her.
Ning Mu’s expression suggested she didn’t recognize her either.
Lan Xinyue realized the two hadn’t recognized her and quickly added, “We met at the cosplay event a while back.”
Hearing the words “cosplay event,” Bai Yurou immediately remembered.
This senior sister was precisely that pink-haired glasses-wearing cosplayer who had asked her and Ning Mu if they were a couple at the cosplay event!
Ning Mu remembered as well and spoke up. “Senior sister, what a coincidence running into you again.”
Bai Yurou followed with, “Yeah, such a fate.”
Seeing that the two had recognized her, Lan Xinyue felt a secret spark of happiness.
She perked up quite a bit compared to before and switched entirely from “slacking mode” to “senior sister mode.”
“Indeed, fate. Then let me help you register.”
The two handed over their ID cards. Lan Xinyue took them, scanned them, then tapped away on the computer with a rapid clatter.
The whole process took less than two minutes.
“You’re in the same dormitory.” Lan Xinyue glanced at the screen, then looked up at the two of them.
“What a coincidence. My dorm is in the same building as yours. Want me to take you there on the way?”
“Sure, thank you, senior sister.” Bai Yurou and Ning Mu exchanged a look and readily agreed.
They had planned to head straight to the dorm after registering anyway.
Now that a senior sister was offering to lead the way, of course they were more than happy.
