Just then, a long-awaited System prompt suddenly echoed in White Night’s mind.
**[Ding! System detects the host has completed one maintenance. RV Points +1.]**
**[Current points allow for one basic roulette draw. Would you like to draw?]**
‘Oh? I can draw now.’
White Night instantly threw her shyness to the back of her mind and hurriedly called out to her two aunts.
‘Auntie Frost, Auntie Ying, the System has saved up enough points for a draw. Which one of you wants to do it?’
“A draw?”
Mu Yingying’s eyes lit up. With great self-awareness, she withdrew her hand from the back seat and turned to look at Su Shuang’er.
“Frosty, you have high luck. Last time, you pulled those top-tier alloy gauntlets. This time, our Lord Euro King definitely has to be the one to draw.”
Su Shuang’er nodded slightly, her hand resting on White Night’s handlebars tightening gently.
“Alright, I’ll do it.”
As the command was issued, the System roulette spun rapidly in White Night’s mind.
The light bar jumped frame by frame, slower and slower, and slower—
An extremely dazzling red light suddenly burst forth.
**[Ding! Lucky Critical Hit triggered! Congratulations on obtaining a rare support item—Clear Spirit Sound Bell.]**
Along with the notification, a small silver-white bell engraved with runes appeared out of thin air and was installed on the left side of White Night’s handlebars.
Not only that, but on White Night’s originally simple virtual remote control, a tiny, thoughtful red button appeared that could be toggled.
**[Item Description: Worn on the vehicle. The chime produced by vibrations has a mental-level support effect. It keeps surrounding creatures absolutely clear-headed, significantly reducing the drop rate of SAN Value, and is particularly effective against Mental Eerie Pollution.]**
“This is good. If we encounter another mental-type Weirdness in the future, we’ll have another way to stay alive.”
Mu Yingying leaned in to look at the exquisite bell, her eyes sparkling. She took the opportunity to pat White Night’s rear seat again.
“Frosty, your luck is just heaven-defying. Little White Night, you have a new function now! Auntie will reward you with a little squeeze.”
Su Shuang’er turned her head to look at her, her tone flat.
“Damn Yingying, do you want Auntie Frost to reward you with a little punch?”
“Spare me, Lord Euro King! I was just joking.”
Mu Yingying quickly withdrew her hand and hid her arms behind her back, putting on an innocent expression.
“Little White Night is a young girl with jewelry now. I was just happy and couldn’t help myself.”
She leaned toward the handlebars, staring at the silver-white bell with itchy fingertips.
“Little White Night, quick, try the new bell.”
White Night was also curious. She tentatively manipulated the new button on her handlebars.
“Ding-ling~”
A crisp, ethereal sound rippled through the living room.
It wasn’t the sharp metallic sound of an ordinary bicycle bell, but more like a wind chime in a mountain temple being brushed by the morning breeze—distant and transparent.
With just that one sound, Su Shuang’er and Mu Yingying felt as if a stream of cool, clear spring water had been poured into their minds.
The mental fatigue accumulated during the day from the terrifying images, as well as the heavy, suffocating feeling brought by the Apocalypse, vanished instantly.
Both felt refreshed, their thoughts clearer than ever before.
“This effect is way too strong.”
Mu Yingying rubbed her temples. Her eyes, which had been somewhat drowsy, became bright and energetic.
“It’s like chugging three cups of concentrated black coffee at once. I’m not sleepy at all now.”
She giggled and reached out her finger, flicking the silver bell again.
“Ding-ling-ling~”
“Since we can’t sleep, Little White Night, let’s talk more and get closer~”
Mu Yingying squatted beside White Night, her peach-blossom eyes shining.
“Since it’s safe now, tell Auntie, what kind of luxury RV do you want to evolve into once you have enough points? Auntie wants one with a giant bathtub.”
As she spoke, her hand reflexively moved to flick the bell again.
“Ding-ling-ling~”
“Damn Yingying, are you trying to die?”
Su Shuang’er slapped her hand away, her brow furrowed.
“Don’t keep messing with it in the middle of the night. What if it attracts something?”
“How is that possible? Didn’t Wang Ziming say it’s temporarily safe?”
Mu Yingying rubbed the back of her reddened hand and pouted.
At the same time, she was secretly shocked. Frosty’s casual slap had terrifying strength.
“It’s just that you’re such a jealous jar, Frosty. I can’t even touch Little White Night. You’re too stingy and overbearing. For someone with such a big chest and butt, your heart is way too small.”
Just as Mu Yingying finished speaking.
It was unknown whether her “crow’s beak” had been blessed with foresight or if the crisp chime of the bell had attracted something that shouldn’t have come in the dead of night.
*Thump… thump… thump…*
A series of dull, slow, yet incredibly piercing knocks sounded without warning in the silent first-floor hall of the Villa.
The sound came from outside the Villa’s extremely thick security door.
Each knock was steady and deliberate, as if strictly following some kind of rhythm.
In an instant, everyone in the living room fell silent.
Only the sound of knocking remained.
The smile on Mu Yingying’s face vanished.
Her body tensed up instantly like a startled tigress. She reached out and pulled the Solid Steel Pipe from the gap in the sofa.
The movement was clean and fluid, a reflex carved into her muscle memory.
Su Shuang’er’s cold eyes were filled with frost.
With a *click*, the Deep Blue Alloy Gauntlets were already equipped on her hands.
The two had no verbal communication, but with perfect tacit understanding, they stepped to the left and right, shielding White Night firmly behind them.
“Another ghostly thing is knocking at the door.”
Mu Yingying lowered her voice, her brow locked tight as she stared at the door.
“But all the windows are sealed by us. We can’t see the situation outside at all.”
“Don’t make a sound yet.”
Su Shuang’er held her breath, staring intently at the heavy stainless steel security door.
The knocking stopped.
There was silence for 2 or 3 seconds.
Then, a voice drifted in from outside.
“Open the door… please open the door for me… there’s a monster chasing me… help…”
It was a woman’s voice.
Weak and desperate, with a piercing sob, every word sounded as if it were squeezed out with the last ounce of her strength.
That blood-weeping plea was like a dull knife sawing back and forth on one’s compassion.
“Another one that likes knocking at midnight.”
Mu Yingying’s knuckles turned white on the Steel Pipe. She turned to look at Su Shuang’er, her eyes full of suspicion.
“Didn’t that bastard Wang Ziming say the Eerie Rift disappeared and this area has become a safe, Weirdness-free zone? Why is this thing here?”
“There’s no such thing as absolute safety in the Apocalypse.” Su Shuang’er’s voice was very low, her gaze not leaving the door for an inch. “Wang Ziming is unreliable; hasn’t that already been proven?”
They were already certain.
The one knocking outside was not human.
In this wasteland where people were eaten without leaving even bones, a normal person would have retreated into a building long ago.
Who would be screaming for help and knocking on someone’s door in the middle of the night?
The thing outside was absolutely not human.
‘Scary as expected. She seems very persistent about us opening the door for her.’
White Night stared at the door, her Soul Body’s Perception running at full power.
‘I feel like there must be some kind of rule here. As long as we don’t open the door, she might not be able to do anything to us.’
“I have that feeling too.”
Su Shuang’er nodded with a grim face.
“Opening the door for this thing will definitely lead to trouble.”
The pleas outside continued, over and over, like a broken record player on a loop.
Just then, a faint megaphone sound drifted from the distance. It was Wang Ziming’s voice.
“The Eerie Rift has reopened! Everyone evacuate immediately! Everyone evacuate immediately—”
The voice came from far away and was getting further.
White Night could tell that the guy was broadcasting while running.
Whenever there was danger, he was the first to slip away. Notifying everyone now was less about being kind and more about wanting others to draw the fire so he could escape more easily.
“That bastard Wang Ziming.”
Mu Yingying cursed, but she also realized the severity of the problem.
If the Eerie Rift had reopened, it wasn’t just the one outside the door.
They had to leave immediately.
However, the first-floor door was blocked.
The Weirdness’s strength was unknown. It was better not to take risks if possible, especially since they needed to flee.
“Go to the second floor. We’ll leave through the balcony.”
The two aunts looked at each other; no more words were needed.
Su Shuang’er bent down and lifted White Night—bike and all—with one hand, tucking her under her arm as she and Mu Yingying rushed up the stairs.
The railing of the second-floor balcony looked out over the Villa’s lawn. It was about 3 meters from the ground to the balcony.
Mu Yingying flipped over the railing, using her toes to kick off for leverage. When she landed, she bent her knees to absorb the impact and performed a forward roll to stand firmly.
Su Shuang’er followed closely with White Night in her arms.
She jumped from the balcony. The moment she landed, her legs bent slightly, leaving deep footprints in the lawn, but her upper body remained perfectly still. White Night didn’t feel a single bump in her arms.
Mu Yingying looked back and clicked her tongue.
“Woah, Frosty, that’s too fierce. Great strength is one thing, but your control over it is ridiculously strong.”
Her gaze drifted downward.
“Also, those glutes of yours are strong too—first-class shock absorption. They jiggled just now and almost distracted me. I nearly bit the dust on landing.”
“Damn Yingying, are you just asking for a beating at a time like this?”
Su Shuang’er said in embarrassed annoyance. She placed White Night on the ground and pushed her forward, not wanting to deal with the woman.
“Can you stop talking and get in the car so we can get out of here?”
“Right, right.”
Mu Yingying knew the situation was critical. She nodded and jogged to the car parked in the corner of the backyard, pulled the door open, and hopped into the driver’s seat.
White Night was stuffed into the back seat by Su Shuang’er.
In the gap while Su Shuang’er was getting in, White Night’s Perception swept toward the front of the Villa.
She saw it.
A “woman” was standing at the main entrance of the Villa.
She wore a tattered dress, had a petite frame, and her hair hung down, covering half her body.
But she had no face.
Above her neck, where her features should have been, was only a patch of pale flesh as smooth as a peeled egg.
No eyes, no nose, no mouth.
Nothing at all.
Yet those shrill cries for help were still coming from her.
The muscles in her throat were vibrating at an eerie, high frequency, forcefully simulating the frequency of human vocal cords.
“Why won’t you open the door for me…”
She tilted her faceless head and “looked” toward White Night and the others as they evacuated.
She had no eyes, yet it felt as if she was watching you.
That feeling was even more terrifying than having eyes.
‘She doesn’t seem to be chasing us.’
White Night noticed a detail.
The Weirdness stood motionless at the door. Even though the prey was escaping, she didn’t move a single step. She just tilted her head and “watched” them, as if she were nailed to that spot by some rule.
“It’s better if she doesn’t chase. It makes it easier to send her on her way.”
Su Shuang’er’s eyes grew cold.
She reached into her backpack and pulled out a standard gym barbell plate. She weighed it in her hand, hooked her fingers around the edge, and leaned out of the car window.
When Mu Yingying saw this stance, she didn’t ask anything. With perfect coordination, she slammed on the brakes to steady the car and simultaneously rolled down the passenger window.
“Frosty, give her a hard one.”
Mu Yingying’s hand rested on the gear shift, ready to hit the gas again. “Show her what a real ‘open door’ looks like.”
Su Shuang’er didn’t respond.
Her eyes were locked onto the faceless figure at the door. Her arm muscles tensed, and she twisted her hips.
The barbell plate flew out. The shock absorption system behind her trembled again, catching White Night’s attention.
White Night couldn’t help but feel her face turn red like a pot of bubble tea. Auntie Ying was too good at leading people astray. At a time like this, her attention should be outside…
Outside, the sound of breaking air was sharp and ear-piercing. The piece of iron was like a cannonball, tracing an arc almost too fast for the naked eye to follow, arriving in an instant.
The Faceless Woman didn’t even have time to react.
The barbell plate hit her torso dead center. The terrifying kinetic energy exploded the moment of contact.
Flesh and blood flew. The tattered dress was shredded into countless strips. The petite body shattered like a watermelon hit by a sledgehammer, fragments splashing all over the Villa door.
After penetrating the Weirdness’s body, the barbell plate embedded itself into the brick wall behind her, smashing a crater the size of a washbasin. This showed the horror of the strike.
Only a puddle of thick, blackish-red residue remained at the door, emitting faint green smoke under the moonlight.
In the center of the residue, something was glowing slightly.
“A Ghost Crystal.”
Mu Yingying’s sharp eyes caught it instantly.
She didn’t wait for a response. She threw the car door open and rushed out, jogging to the side of the puddle. She bent over and picked up a gray crystal the size of a fingernail from the viscous pulp.
A Weirdness core.
She wiped it haphazardly a few times on her hem, held it in her palm, and ran back to the car. As she closed the door, she tossed the crystal toward Su Shuang’er.
“Catch.”
Su Shuang’er caught it with one hand, glanced at it between her fingers, and tucked it into the side pocket of her backpack.
Mu Yingying slammed her foot on the gas. The engine roared as the car launched forward, wheels grinding over broken bricks and tiles as they surged onto the street.
“Frosty, your arm strength is truly ridiculous.” Mu Yingying held the steering wheel, her tone filled with admiration. “Throwing a barbell plate like a cannonball and blowing a Weirdness into scraps… Were you a catapult in your past life?”
“Damn Yingying, was your mouth a Gatling gun in your past life?”
“Stop talking and drive.”
Su Shuang’er wiped a bit of blood from her hand and glared at Mu Yingying.
Mu Yingying glanced in the rearview mirror at the receding Villa. The residue at the door was no longer visible.
“That thing’s gaze was really creepy.” She shivered. “Oh right, she had no eyes. That makes it even creepier.”
White Night huddled in the back seat, thinking back to the behavior pattern of that Weirdness.
It was obsessed with knocking, obsessed with getting people to open the door, and stayed nailed to the spot until it was killed—even after the prey had escaped.
There was definitely a rule hidden within that.
She silently noted this information in her mind.
In the Apocalypse, figuring out the Weirdness and their behavioral logic was the key to staying alive.
