Although they had said they were going out to eat, they still hadn’t decided where to go.
As a result, the meal time was nearly over, and Clara and Kamui were still wandering around the underground plaza of the Memorial Park. Worth noting, quite a number of patrol heroes could be seen in this area today.
The way to tell ordinary people apart from heroes was actually pretty simple—heroes on duty always wore flashy, outlandish outfits, mostly bodysuits or armor.
By comparison, Clara and Kamui’s dresses were actually pretty normal. Even if they weren’t heroes, there was nothing wrong with little girls wearing pretty dresses.
In many cases, the only difference between a hero and a lunatic or a pervert was a set of outlandish clothes.
Especially those female heroes who wore revealing bodysuits were even more likely to be lumped into that category.
Today was one of Central City’s biggest annual holidays—Lunar Expansion Memorial Day.
There had been people causing trouble around these parts over the past couple of days, which was why there were so many heroes.
Thinking back, the Evil Organization didn’t exactly pick their dates when they wanted to pull off a big stunt, whether it was today or the anniversary itself.
Because the mutants of the Evil Organization were also looking forward to their days off.
When it came to time off, the Evil Organization had always been more generous than the Hero Company.
Take Naitemel, for example—they took their holidays as they came, and they might even have started their break early today.
The vast majority of Evil Organizations took holidays, and public safety was actually better than usual. So Clara could confidently say that even if some Evil Organization did work through the holiday, they’d get compensatory time off afterward, right?
Just thinking about it made her laugh—hah! You could barely see a single Transformed Being on the streets.
If one were to pop out during this time and run into some unreasonable hero who caught them and beat them up, that really wouldn’t be worth it…
However, there were always some mutants who liked to go against the grain.
“Miss Clara.”
A female voice called out from behind.
“Huh?”
Clara turned at the sound and saw a woman with dignified black hair, tall and slender, wearing a fitted ladies’ suit and still sporting a scarf.
She had a neat high ponytail, but her hair was long enough that even tied up, it hung down to around her lower back.
For a moment, Clara overlapped the woman before her with the girl from the tree hollow she had seen in her dream.
But Clara searched her mind and couldn’t recall where she had met her before…
As Clara asked this, the woman who had walked up to her and Kamui replied:
“Um, you are…”
“Oh? What a coincidence! Running into you here! We’re Mossima—did you forget that quickly?”
That gave Clara a start.
Who would have thought that the prison minister, who rarely showed her face, would dare to wander around Memorial Park, crawling with heroes, on the day before Lunar Expansion Memorial Day?
Kamui glanced behind Mossima, then raised a suspicious eyebrow at Clara.
“‘We’?”
If she was someone Clara knew, how could she not remember her face?
It was also strange that she called herself “we” when she was clearly alone—was there some spirit behind her that Clara couldn’t see?
Clara felt Kamui’s gaze, but she couldn’t explain the other woman’s identity to Kamui…
How was she supposed to say that out loud—an executive of Naitemel!
“You know quite a few pretty girls, huh?”
Kamui’s words carried a hidden meaning, but Clara couldn’t quite figure out what she was thinking.
“Kamui, this is Miss Mossima, a friend of mine.”
Anyway, introducing the two to each other first seemed best, right?
After introducing Mossima to Kamui, Clara looked back at the former.
“This is Kamui, Magical Girl Divine Might. She’s my senior as a Magical Girl.”
Clara didn’t bring up Mossima’s “job,” but she directly told Mossima who Kamui was, trusting that the latter would understand her meaning.
Right now, a brief encounter and parting ways was the best option.
After all, during such a sensitive period, it was better for nothing to happen between a hero and a mutant. If Mossima was sharp enough, this was the time to make an excuse and take her leave…
“Have you two had lunch yet?”
Clara hadn’t expected Mossima to ask that.
“We just finished our morning work and were about to go eat. If you don’t mind, would you like to join us for a casual meal nearby?”
What? She wanted to eat with a hero?!
Why was a Fungal Monster so enthusiastic about eating anyway? Didn’t she understand my hint at all!
Clara wailed inwardly, but on the surface, she naturally couldn’t make too big a reaction. She just answered with a stiff but polite smile:
“Um… yeah, we were also looking for a place to eat.”
Mossima clapped her hands together.
“That’s great. Actually, there’s a Chinese restaurant we’ve been wanting to try, but going in alone, I can’t really order much. How about…”
There was no reason to refuse now.
Clara just hoped that Mossima wouldn’t drop her Shapeshifting in front of Kamui and revert to that amorphous fungal form.
Kamui didn’t seem too happy about eating with Mossima.
Clara noticed that too, but she couldn’t quite understand why.
Mossima, on the other hand, didn’t seem to care and even took the initiative to order, saying the meal was on her…
Then, Kamui’s attitude suddenly improved a lot.
So pragmatic! Miss Kamui?
Not only did she put on a smile, but even her sweet little mouth turned sugary…
“Miss Mossima, you’re so tall and so pretty—could you be a Model?”
Mossima put down the menu, glanced at Clara first, then answered:
“No, I’m a kindergarten Sensei.”
Even though Clara knew that was a reason Mossima had just made up on the spot, it was a terrible excuse.
There were barely any schools in Central City—how could there possibly be a kindergarten?
“A kindergarten in Central City? Oh, is it… that Elite School attended by the children of those corporate tycoons?”
Kamui actually believed it.
Central City had very few schools, but that didn’t mean there were none…
Not only were there some, but every single one was a prestigious Elite School, and at the same time, a place with no connection to ordinary people—that counted as the rich folks’ circle.
Clara plastered an unconvincing smile on her face, trying to steer the conversation to a controllable area before Mossima could blow her cover.
“Ahem, let’s not talk about that. About tomorrow’s garden party, what plans do you two have?”
When Clara asked that, Kamui asked back:
“Hm? Why do you ask—does Clara already have a date?”
Kamui asked that.
Although there was no reason, intuition told Clara that she suddenly felt she should answer this question cautiously.
“I’m going to take Lucia to see the garden party~”
“Just Lucia?”
Mossima also looked up at Clara. The one who should be accompanying her around the garden party tomorrow was also “Squill,” whom she was playing, but Clara didn’t know how to tell Kamui:
“Yeah, just Lucia!”
Kamui, however, reached out and pinched Clara’s cheek.
“Liar. Your fake smile has gone stiff.”
“Tsk, why did you have to bring up that topic anyway?”
