To be honest, even someone like Cheng Qingyun, who enjoys a good spectacle, couldn’t help but sigh after reading Su Ziyan’s file, thinking his life was truly… dramatic.
It was genuinely tragic, yet undeniably theatrical, and it even featured figures she was familiar with.
For instance, the major project she had been busy with recently—her collaborator turned out to be Su Ziyan’s younger sister.
As she thought about what a coincidence it was, never imagining her ex-boyfriend had once been a Great Young Master, she flipped to the second page of the file.
The first page contained Su Ziyan’s headshot, his height, weight, blood type, and his experiences before university.
Many people’s lives can be recorded clearly on a single sheet of paper, yet Su Ziyan’s bizarre experiences required two full pages.
One could only say the proportion of strange and unusual events was simply too large.
She never expected Su Ziyan had once been a hero who stopped school bullying.
The second page detailed his post-university experiences. Cheng Qingyun was surprised to learn Su Ziyan had been involved with people she knew during his freshman and sophomore years.
Then came his relationship with her, graduation, and their breakup.
After that, he ran away…
Cheng Qingyun, who had been smiling while reading the file, unconsciously clenched her hand as she saw the line at the very bottom.
‘Involved in a car accident on the high-speed road three months ago, resulting in blindness. Discharged from the hospital two months ago. Currently recuperating at home.’
Just as she suspected, even though she didn’t truly understand love or its absence, she really did care about Su Ziyan a great deal. She could feel her heart sting as if pricked by a needle when she read that line.
It hurt a little.
It was like seeing something she really liked being shattered. She could imagine the darkness Su Ziyan must be living in now.
Given her nature, she should have been delighted that she could now easily manipulate him.
Logically, if she appeared in his life now, she could effortlessly become a beam of light in his current darkness. With a little scheming, she could make him repent and have him under her thumb for the rest of his life.
But now, she couldn’t feel any joy at all. There wasn’t even a hint of relief in her heart.
Honestly, this wasn’t selfish enough. She was clearly very self-aware.
She knew full well she was supposed to be a sophisticated egoist.
Yet, after seeing this information, she simply couldn’t be happy. After reading the details of his injuries and experiences, she couldn’t even maintain the polite, fake smile on her lips…
Taking a deep breath, she flipped to the next page of the file.
Judging by the closeness of the relationship, the next page was undoubtedly Xu Duyan’s information.
All these years, she hadn’t even known Su Ziyan had such an elder sister. But after reading his file, from the perspective of Su Ziyan’s future wife, it was really hard not to develop a favorable impression of Xu Duyan.
It had to be said, Xu Duyan had done so much for Su Ziyan. So much that even she, an outsider, felt Xu Duyan must be the most important person in Su Ziyan’s life.
If that was the case, why had Su Ziyan never mentioned this elder sister to her?
Filled with curiosity, Cheng Qingyun looked at Xu Duyan’s file. Just one glance made her freeze completely, and a cold smile curled at the corner of her mouth.
“Good, very good…”
Her voice was as cold as if it came from the depths of an iceberg.
“I never thought you were so capable…”
Cheng Qingyun, who thought she wouldn’t be able to smile for a while after reading Su Ziyan’s file, was actually angered into a laugh by Su Ziyan in less than three minutes.
And the reason for it all was the photo of Xu Duyan.
Cheng Qingyun, who had lived her whole life as a princess, never imagined she would be used as a substitute by a servant.
Su Ziyan never expected to wake up again.
Although he could no longer see, the softness of the large bed beneath him felt unfamiliar, unlike the cold, hard park bench.
After all, before he fell asleep last time, he had found a deserted, abandoned park and a bench covered in fallen leaves. He had taken a lethal dose of sleeping pills, so he should have died.
Died in a place that wouldn’t trouble anyone.
But now he was alive, and he felt something tight around his neck.
‘Could it be… I’ve been transported to another world?’
No, it wasn’t an illusion.
Su Ziyan reached up to touch his neck. The cool, leathery texture made him shiver.
A collar?
That was not a good thing, by any measure.
After a brief moment of stunned silence, he fumbled to sit up, instinctively trying to survey his surroundings, but he couldn’t make out anything clearly.
Although he understood in his heart that the person who had taken him probably didn’t have good intentions, in his current state, sneaking away was impossible. After a moment’s thought, he could only call out,
“Is anyone there? Hello?”
After calling out a few times, Su Ziyan heard the sound of a door opening, followed by the click of a light switch. The room lit up, and he could vaguely make out a slender figure standing before the bed.
‘So, even when you’re blind, suddenly turning on the lights doesn’t really dazzle your eyes…’
“You’re finally awake. Is there anywhere you feel unwell?”
The girl’s voice reached Su Ziyan’s ears. For some reason, it felt cool and icy to him, yet also carried a sweet softness, like mochi.
It was the most distinctive voice Su Ziyan had ever heard. It held a trace of cold, aloof detachment, yet also gave off a soft, gentle impression.
It somehow reminded him of Cheng Qingyun’s tone when she proposed the breakup, yet it was completely different.
After all, mochi and frozen cotton candy were two entirely different sensations.
To put it another way, there was an inexplicable sense of fragility in her voice.
It was icy cold, yet made one want to bully her.
Su Ziyan felt this was probably the most pleasant voice he had ever heard in his life, the kind that could make you feel happy just from chatting.
“Ah, I’m feeling quite well,” Su Ziyan replied after a moment’s pause.
“If anything, I feel so well it’s a bit unbelievable.”
“Actually, feeling well is normal,”
the woman before him sighed with a hint of resignation.
“You were trying to… end things by taking an overdose of sleeping pills, right?”
“Ah, yes,”
Su Ziyan nodded.
“But I took so many pills, yet my body doesn’t feel the slightest bit unwell. Could it be that the idea that an overdose of sleeping pills can kill you is false?”
“It’s true, but there are many types of sleeping pills. The ones that are lethal in overdose are barbiturates… The kind you took wasn’t that type…”
“Well, we can discuss the other reasons on the way. My Young Lady wishes to see you. Let me help you there.”
The girl walked to the bedside and took Su Ziyan’s hand.
“I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Shi Lingge. I am the Young Lady’s personal maid.”
