The demonic creatures to the north shouldn’t be a problem, after all, Magical Girl Silver Lin was heading there. If she could take down an executive-level fiend, killing an intermediate evil demon was nothing.
On site, the Special Task Force captain received the order and argued with his superior for a few sentences.
“Right now is the best chance to attack Silver Lin. She’s charging and has already removed the shield wall—”
“Follow orders, don’t talk back!”
The superior on the other end scolded him harshly.
“Yes.”
The captain suppressed the fury inside him, looked at the petite figure in the sky, and reluctantly ordered his team: “Execute Plan C.”
This plan meant the entire team would just watch and let the magical girl handle the scene.
Among the team members, some felt stifled, some felt sad, and others felt relieved, letting out a sigh. As for the captain, he was naturally very uncomfortable. He gripped his weapon tightly on the flying vehicle, wanting to aim at that silver figure.
He had been studying the weaknesses of magical girls and knew that Silver Lin was at her weakest only when charging. Of course, this “weakest moment” was only relative—it was when Silver Lin had the most difficulty using other magic. But even at her weakest, she still possessed defensive capabilities at the ceiling level of magical girls.
He glanced at the panel on the launcher again, which showed there was still one experimental poison gas bomb on the flying vehicle.
Magical girls also needed to breathe. This poison gas bomb would definitely penetrate the magic shield.
The captain clenched and unclenched his hands several times, struggling internally.
Though Silver Lin was not particularly smart, she wasn’t especially stupid either. She always maintained a high flight altitude—since she was a remote mage, there was no way she would go down to fight the demonic creature in close combat.
She also guarded against the Special Task Force. After all, she had been shot a few times as soon as she arrived, showing that the Special Task Force was quite hostile toward her. The other side had also displayed a poison gas bomb, which made Silver Lin ascend further and even hold her breath.
As long as she flew at high altitude, the Special Task Force shouldn’t be able to do anything to her. She also thought this thing might be able to penetrate the shield.
‘No matter how strong they are, they can’t control an airborne mage.’
Silver Lin thought this while striving to maintain a high flight altitude.
The demonic creature on the ground made its next move, continuously trying to attack the people in the sky. It picked up stones, crushed them, and hurled them at the airborne crowd.
The Special Task Force suffered heavy losses. In an instant, two single-person flying vehicles were hit by crushed stones, their blades destroyed, and they spiraled out of control toward the ground.
The captain was among them. For the sake of this experimental poison gas bomb, his flight altitude was low, specifically to increase accuracy and avoid wasting this hard-won experimental opportunity.
He wasn’t fast enough to ascend and couldn’t escape the demonic creature’s attack range, so he was hit.
A surprised shout came from the comms device: “Captain, I’ve been hit, help!”
The captain quickly shouted: “Don’t panic, follow procedure, enter crash sequence, prepare to parachute!”
They had a parachute plan. They needed to shut down the blades first, then parachute.
The young team member did as told, detached from the flying vehicle, successfully opened his parachute in midair, and slowly descended toward the ground.
Still shaken, an imminent problem presented itself. The young team member said in panic: “The demonic creature has noticed us, Captain, what do we do?”
The captain quickly called for support from teammates. Some team members tried to shoot to distract the demonic creature; others began to descend rapidly, trying to catch the two who had jumped.
Unfortunately, the demonic creature crushed more stones and continued to hurl them, destroying the descending Special Task Force members’ vehicles as well.
It kept crushing stones and throwing them at the people on the parachutes. At this point, the two on the parachutes were like live targets.
The captain steeled himself, shot at the parachute, deliberately making holes to increase the descent speed.
The young team member had no such experience and could only keep struggling and swaying, as if trying to use his back to block the stones. The demonic creature threw the crushed stones like a shotgun blast, instantly hitting the young team member, leaving bloody holes in his body. Even his head was pierced, and he died on the spot.
The captain fell toward the ground at a faster speed. On the demonic creature’s next throw, he just landed. A sharp pain shot through both his legs—a slight sprain.
He immediately lay down to take cover. Dense crushed stones flew over him, and only a piece the size of a thumb hit his shoulder, instantly creating a bloody hole. The power was no less than a shotgun.
After he landed, the demonic creature sprinted, like someone who hadn’t eaten for days seeing a delicacy. The starving expression was blatantly written on its face.
Through his teammate’s high-altitude view, he learned that the demonic creature was now sprinting not toward the captain, but toward the young team member’s corpse—it went to devour the body.
The captain quickly crouched and ran away from there.
Silver Lin watched what was happening below, but she had no intention of using the magic power cannon early. She was still charging.
Huan Hong was still quite saintly, with a habit of returning good for evil; compared to Huan Hong, Jin Luan was much more clear-headed. And Silver Lin even more so. Though her pilot was a 34-year-old old man, his temper was fierier than a young person’s. She hadn’t forgotten being attacked multiple times by the Special Task Force.
If she didn’t have such a strong magic shield, and was only at Huan Hong’s level, wouldn’t the Special Task Force have been able to injure her?
The Special Task Force had the intention to injure or even kill her, so she naturally felt angry and decided to continue watching.
After all, she hadn’t actively attacked them. She would just see if they could survive on their own.
Counting the time, there were still three minutes. Let’s see if they could hold out against the demonic creature for those three minutes.
At that moment, the demonic creature was feasting heartily like eating a “KFC Family Bucket.” It tore off a “drumstick,” chomping and crunching; tore off a “chicken wing,” swallowing quickly as well.
Clearly, it was very hungry. It finished the corpse cleanly in half a minute.
It looked up at the terrifying magic power in the sky. Probably, hunger overcame fear. Then, it chased in the direction the captain had disappeared, ignoring the bullets hitting it as covering fire from above, which only caused superficial wounds.
The captain also learned through the comms device that the demonic creature was chasing him. He was lucky—he rolled down a small hill, and there happened to be an abandoned civilian house.
The demonic creature’s running speed was far faster than his. Each step left a pit in the ground, like a human running on a sandy beach. This hard ground was as fragile as sand to the demonic creature.
Seeing that he was about to be caught up, the captain gave an order.
The team member hesitated but still complied.
Silver Lin also saw this scene. She thought the captain was doomed, but unexpectedly, the team member in the sky launched several experimental poison gas bombs.
A large amount of yellow-green smoke enveloped the road between the captain and the demonic creature. They were also engulfed, and even the abandoned house ahead was swallowed.
Silver Lin couldn’t help but exclaim: “Ruthless guy… using poison gas bombs as smoke bombs?!”
