Ever since “Assassin Girl Xu Yinsheng” moved into Xu Yinsheng’s villa, the unilateral cold war that Xu Yinsheng had been waging against Zhao Yicheng seemed to have thawed on the surface, smoothed over by the girl’s presence.
Zhao Yicheng seemed to understand that this was a golden opportunity. He took every chance he could get, following the girl’s lead and bringing fresh vegetables and meat to the house every day. He took the initiative to cook and help out, working hard without any complaints.
With the intentional or unintentional matchmaking from “Assassin Girl Xu Yinsheng,” who accepted the groceries every time and invited him in to help with the cooking, the once lonely and cold villa began to feel more like a home. Especially during lunch, the man acted like a master storyteller, gossiping about society and celebrity scandals with ease.
“Let’s go, let’s go! That limited edition version of The King of Fighters that was delisted ten years ago is back in stock!”
On this day, before she had even woken up from her nap, Xu Yinsheng was hurriedly dragged out of bed by “Assassin Girl Xu Yinsheng” and shoved into the passenger seat.
The two drove the Masquerade straight to the mall.
Perhaps it was a peak shopping period, as the mall was a sea of people that stretched as far as the eye could see. After finally finding a parking spot, the two women headed straight for the offline game store.
However, as she stared at the empty glass display case and the various other game discs surrounding it, “Assassin Girl Xu Yinsheng” let out a wail. “We’re too late! They’re all sold out. Only the others are left!” Having said that, she shook her fist at the glass case and stomped her feet in frustration. “This is so unfair!” Her childish temper made several passersby chuckle.
Xu Yinsheng’s lips twitched slightly.
Suddenly, catching a glimpse of the brass ring on her right ring finger, a bold idea popped into her head.
The Ring of the Nibelung. Pay the price, and get what you desire.
Ever since “Assassin Girl Xu Yinsheng” had used it as rent, the ring had remained on Xu Yinsheng’s ring finger. As for why she wore it on that specific finger, it was, of course, to annoy a certain someone who visited every few days.
Back to the matter at hand.
She had used the Ring of the Nibelung several times over the past few days, and she roughly understood the principle of the price and the wish.
‘Dreams Come True… by not eating candy for three days, I’ll exchange it for… an opportunity to buy the limited edition King of Fighters game.’
Xu Yinsheng had originally wanted to say “exchange it for a limited edition game,” but according to the principle of equivalent exchange, the value of three days without candy clearly couldn’t compare to a limited edition game.
She changed her wording at the last second, playing a bit of a word game.
A few breaths after she spoke, a slightly chubby man in a shirt suddenly came running from a distance. He walked up to the counter, panting heavily, holding the very limited edition of The King of Fighters that “Assassin Girl Xu Yinsheng” coveted so much.
“Boss, I want a refund.”
The refund process was very smooth. “Assassin Girl Xu Yinsheng” watched as the Boss finished the refund and placed the limited edition game back into the glass case, her eyes sparkling.
She waved her small hand and slapped the back of Xu Yinsheng’s head.
“Xiao Xuxu, you’re the best!”
“Then why aren’t you going to buy it already!” Xu Yinsheng slapped her back without hesitation, causing the other to stumble. The silly Loli almost tripped and fell flat on her face.
They took the item, scanned the code, and paid in one fluid motion!
After buying the game, the Assassin Maiden suggested going home to play, but Xu Yinsheng’s eyes lit up when she saw a dazzling food street nearby.
She insisted on dragging the girl along for a while. Refreshing and delicious lemon juice, greasy and spicy grilled octopus tentacles, and soft, juicy rice balls — they each had their own and ate happily.
As “Assassin Girl Xu Yinsheng” was eating a grilled sausage, she happened to see an underwear shop ahead, specifically a shop for specialty lingerie.
Her eyes darted around, and she was about to pull Xu Yinsheng in to try some on, only to find that the girl was no longer beside her.
After searching for a bit, she finally found Xu Yinsheng standing in front of a Lego store fifty meters back.
Xu Yinsheng stood before the display case, looking into the store with longing.
The people inside were busy. A family of three was checking out. The service staff handed a large assembly box to a young boy. His mother stood on his left and his father on his right. The mother patted the boy’s head, while the father leaned down to say something to him. The family of three looked very happy.
“What are you looking at?” “Assassin Girl Xu Yinsheng” poked her head over, the sausage still in her mouth.
Xu Yinsheng pointed to an assembly toy in the display case. “Assassin Girl Xu Yinsheng” followed her gaze.
It was a gorgeous box full of building blocks, featuring various little figures. Printed on it were several large words — Lego Assembly: Family of Three.
“That was what I used to desire the most.”
She sighed softly. After a while, she looked up, her eyes filled with a different kind of emotion. Xu Yinsheng looked at the girl beside her and shook her head with a smile.
“It’s nothing. I just got a bit sentimental. Let’s keep walking, keep eating, and go home later…”
*Smack!*
A hand slapped the back of her head without mercy, causing Xu Yinsheng to stumble.
“Nothing my foot! If you want it, buy it. It’s not like we’re broke. Stop acting like a martyr in front of me! The ‘melancholy girl’ look went out of style ages ago!”
The grumbling “Assassin Girl Xu Yinsheng” clapped her hands and immediately shouted to the service staff inside the store. “Waiter, I want a copy of that Family of Three set!”
“You got it!”
Xu Yinsheng was stunned when a box of Lego was forcefully shoved into her arms.
She really was just feeling sentimental and had sighed; she hadn’t intended to act like a melancholy girl.
Besides, this Family of Three version of the Lego set was incredibly difficult to assemble. When this version first came out, she and Zhao Yicheng had spent three days in their college dorm trying to build it and still failed. It had driven them both numb.
At that moment, a slender, fair arm suddenly draped over her shoulder. Then, a beautiful, fair face leaned in, her curved eyelashes close as she pressed her cheek against Xu Yinsheng’s.
“Xiao Xuxu, do you know why I’m always a beautiful eighteen-year-old girl?”
She flicked her silky black hair behind her head, radiating charm and instantly stunning the passersby. Before Xu Yinsheng could speak, she beat her to it.
“It’s because I never mistreat my younger self.”
“I only have one principle: eat what you should, drink what you should, and don’t let things weigh on your heart! That’s the mindset a true profligate should have!!”
Without waiting to see if Xu Yinsheng understood, she pulled the girl’s hand and led her forward. They continued their happy stroll through the mall, taking photos, drinking milk tea, playing claw machines, and buying underwear for each other like a pair of close best friends.
As the sky gradually darkened, the two were too lazy to go home and cook, so they settled for dinner at a claypot rice restaurant.
“Burp! Claypot rice is so good.” Xu Yinsheng patted her slightly bulging belly.
“Indeed, the portions are huge,” “Assassin Girl Xu Yinsheng” agreed, picking her teeth with a toothpick in a very unladylike manner.
“Are we coming out again tomorrow?”
“No, I’ll play games with you tomorrow. It’s too boring to play single-player mode alone.”
“Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it. Tomorrow, we’ll summon Palu Zhao and have him cook for us. I’ve already planned out the schedule for the next few days: eat, sleep, and play games. Beautiful days are waiting for me.”
“Assassin Girl Xu Yinsheng” continued picking her teeth casually, but she was secretly watching the changes in Xu Yinsheng’s expression out of the corner of her eye.
Xu Yinsheng was silent for a moment before nodding.
“Okay.”
The two girls rested in the restaurant for a while to digest their food. Once it was completely dark, they left their seats and headed toward the mall’s underground parking lot.
In the parking lot, Xu Yinsheng went to pay the fee and get the car. “Assassin Girl Xu Yinsheng” waited at the exit, several large bags of today’s purchases at her feet.
After making sure no one was around, she took out her mobile phone, typed a line of text, and hit send.
“Kid, I’m giving you a chance to score some points tomorrow. Let’s see if you’re up to the task.”
