Seeing the confused expressions on Xiao Lin and the others’ faces, Lu Yunze had no choice but to explain the preparations he had made in advance.
Normally, teachers of general courses weren’t very strict, but this English teacher was different.
As the only remaining Male English Teacher in the whole school, his classes were extremely strict, with surprise quizzes every now and then that actually counted toward the final grade. Every time, the students would grumble and complain, and many people privately called him “Yin Yu Old Man.”
Lu Yunze wasn’t particularly good at English, and the teaching style of Yin Yu Old Man was so dull that it made people drowsy. Rather than listen to him drone on, it was better to study on his own, so he had put in a lot of effort. The lifesaving notes he made to handle the quizzes were part of that effort.
Lu Yunze had high hopes, but reality was always full of surprises. Today should have been the day for his notes to shine, and to prevent any accidents, he had even tucked them inside his English Textbook.
“But Lu-ge, you even forgot your textbook?”
“I brought the wrong one,” Lu Yunze corrected. Because the textbooks for the two courses looked similar in color and thickness, he stuffed the wrong one into his bag without looking carefully.
“So what do we do now?” Xiao Lin couldn’t help but ask.
Lu Yunze gave an awkward laugh. There were only twenty minutes during this break, but it wasn’t enough to run home and fetch his textbook. Yin Yu Old Man was also very strict about lateness, and Lu Yunze didn’t want to lose any participation points.
“So, do you guys have any ideas?” Lu Yunze looked at Xiao Lin and the others.
The three of them looked at each other, sighing all around.
“No way, guess we’ll just let him have these points.”
“What’s done is done, let’s eat first.”
“The Classroom Building is close to the Cafeteria, come on, let’s get some milk tea.”
They really did leave the classroom together, their attitude couldn’t be any more laid-back.
Left behind, Lu Yunze pressed his temples, brainstorming desperately about how to get through this quiz.
Right now, his only option was to borrow a book from someone and cram a bit.
Flipping through the thick English Textbook, Lu Yunze still felt a deep sense of powerlessness, and before long, he lost interest.
“If only I still had my notes.”
“Classmate, is this the notebook you dropped?”
“Huh?”
Lu Yunze turned his head in annoyance, thinking, who was joking with him at a time like this?
“Hmm?”
He saw a familiar cover enter his field of vision, and after a stunned second, he snatched it up excitedly and flipped through the contents, gasping.
Wasn’t this his notebook? Wait, no, he had clearly left it in his book, so how did someone find it?
Lu Yunze looked up at the kind classmate, his mouth dropping open.
The girl with ash-brown hair smiled softly and said, “Young Master, I came just in time, didn’t I?”
“Jiang—”
Before he could say anything, Jiang Sui squeezed into the seat next to him and sat down with a plop.
“Young Master, aren’t you happy to see me? I brought you your textbook at the last possible moment.”
As she spoke, she put the English Textbook with Lu Yunze’s name on it on the desk and pushed it toward him.
“What are you doing here?” After the initial shock, Lu Yunze noticed she wasn’t wearing her Maid Uniform.
Except for their first meeting, this was the second time he’d seen the little Maid in casual clothes: a white short shirt hugging her waist, a loose black jacket draped over her shoulders, and black shorts just covering her hips.
Jiang Sui didn’t immediately answer Lu Yunze’s question. Suddenly, she arched her back and stretched, her long legs in black stockings almost reaching his side.
“Since Young Master is here, why can’t I be here too?” After stretching, Jiang Sui’s tone took on a lazy lilt as she tilted her head and looked at him.
“I’m here for class, of course I’m here, but you—”
“I’m a student at this school too.”
“Huh?”
Seeing his dumbfounded face, Jiang Sui giggled and pulled out her Student ID from her pocket to prove she wasn’t lying.
Lu Yunze looked carefully at the photo on it. It really was Jiang Sui, and she had even enrolled the same year as him.
She wasn’t lying, but Lu Yunze still found it unbelievable. The little Maid who loved to cling to him was actually his classmate? It was just too strange.
“Wait, then how did you know I had English class?”
Lu Yunze thought her major had nothing to do with his. Even if English was a general course with students from different majors, she shouldn’t have known to be here.
“Young Master’s schedule isn’t exactly a big secret.” Jiang Sui’s eyes sparkled. “Actually, every day when you go to school, I sneak into your bedroom and deduce your classes from the textbooks you leave behind.”
“What?!” Lu Yunze blurted out, then hurriedly lowered his voice.
“Hehe, Young Master is so sensitive.”
“That’s not funny at all.”
Still, she had brought his textbook and notebook, helping Lu Yunze out a lot. Now he could finally get through this quiz safely.
As class time approached, Lu Yunze hurried off to the restroom, leaving Jiang Sui alone at his seat.
“Okay, Young Master.”
Since she hadn’t received any orders, Jiang Sui sat right at his desk to prevent anyone from taking his seat.
Everything was fine, until—
“Ah!”
Xiao Lin and the others came back with milk tea, all pointing at the girl in his seat.
“Where did this fairy come from, stealing Lu-ge’s seat?”
“And you are?” Jiang Sui frowned slightly, then seemed to realize something and relaxed, showing a friendly smile. “Hello, gentlemen, you must be Young Master Lu Yunze’s friends. My name is Jiang Sui, and I’m the Maid who serves the Young Master.”
“Maid?!”
The three immediately reacted, then started whispering to each other.
“How come I never knew Lu-ge would bring a Maid to school?”
“Look at her, does she really look like a Maid?”
“Hey Lin, doesn’t your family have a Dragon Maid?”
They couldn’t really confirm if what Jiang Sui said was true, so they could only wait for Lu Yunze to return. In the meantime, Xiao Lin hesitated for a long time before finally asking the question in his heart:
“Miss Jiang, about your job, we wanted to ask— is it very hard?”
Jiang Sui pouted, her eyes drooping as well. “Well, taking care of a living person is definitely hard work.”
But in the next moment, her expression suddenly turned shy, her tone bashful: “But Young Master is a very gentle person. When I was in the most pain, he took care of me himself.”
“The most pain?”
“Mm, because I couldn’t move my hands or feet then, he helped me take off my clothes.”
“Couldn’t move your hands or feet, and he took off your clothes?!”
“Um, may I ask, did it really hurt that much?” another roommate asked.
“Mm, because it was the first time I asked Young Master for help, so it hurt a lot.” A faint blush appeared on Jiang Sui’s cheeks. “But that was my problem. Young Master was gentle the whole time and even helped me put my clothes back on afterward.”
“Hiss—”
Xiao Lin and the others felt like the sky was falling.
Just then, Lu Yunze returned. Seeing the three of them blocking the aisle, he called out for them to move, only to be met with three synchronized stares.
“What?” Lu Yunze raised an eyebrow.
“Lu-ge, after all we’ve done for you…”
“No wonder you never admit Luo Yao is your girlfriend.”
“So rich guys really do like to play around?”
Suddenly being scolded for no reason, Lu Yunze was completely confused. But seeing Jiang Sui’s expression, he quickly understood what was going on.
“It’s not what you think. When she says ‘Maid,’ she means her job. You guys know there are servants in my house, right?”
While he spoke, Lu Yunze motioned for Jiang Sui to come out and explain things properly. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to keep staying at this school.
“Young Master is right. Maid is just my job.”
“There, see?”
“But serving Young Master is my personal wish—it’s unrelated to my job…”
“Stop, stop, stop!”
Lu Yunze quickly covered her mouth from behind, afraid that things would get even more out of hand.
But it was already too late. After they all sat down, Xiao Lin and the others started looking at Lu Yunze with very strange expressions, full of envy, regret, and surprise.
“It’s really not what you think,” Lu Yunze said, on the verge of tears.
“Lu-ge, we get it, we get it.”
“You get nothing! Just look at your faces, you totally misunderstood.”
Lu Yunze turned to look at Jiang Sui on the other side. She immediately tilted her head and made a questioning gesture.
“Young Master, I didn’t lie, you know. I was just highlighting your good points. It’s just that Young Master gets embarrassed so easily.”
She was still pretending to look pitiful, but her tone was barely hiding her laughter.
“Thank you so much,” Lu Yunze said, the corners of his mouth twitching.
