This bizarre scene, the eerie tone, and the identical arcs at the corners of the twin sisters’ mouths, along with that question Dolosa herself couldn’t even comprehend, completely shattered Dolosa’s last psychological defenses.
“Why aren’t you saying anything? Why aren’t you refuting us? Have you already accepted it in your heart? Or… do you think it’s something too embarrassing to admit?”
Asterys and Delucia continued speaking in perfect unison, their identical faces seeming almost to merge into one. This made Dolosa feel wave after wave of dizziness.
“Why are you two getting so close to me?!”
Dolosa shouted, quickly retreating to keep a safe distance from the other two.
She no longer had the courage to confront these twins, but she was also afraid that if she left, Liang Lai would be bullied by these two liars. So she stood on the bed, shielding Liang Lai behind her.
“I’m telling you two… don’t go too far!”
After all, Dolosa was just a child who hadn’t had much contact with people or the outside world. She was different from Asterys and Delucia, who had grown up struggling in the Dustfolk District. Dolosa had suffered a lot, but she hadn’t interacted with many people, whereas Asterys and Delucia were a different story.
The twin sisters smiled thoughtfully, watching Dolosa.
The three of them stood in a standoff.
Dolosa looked like a bristling little Beast, always standing in front of Liang Lai, using her body—finally plumped up and a bit taller after much effort—to protect the peacefully sleeping Saintess.
Asterys and Delucia’s eyes were deep and hard to read.
In the end, Asterys laughed, taking Delucia’s hand and heading for the door.
“Alright then~ Big Sister Dolosa~ We’ll leave Mother to you today. Of course! Only for today~ Seeing you like this, we really can’t bear it~ Hee hee~”
Asterys let out a laugh, and Delucia turned back, giving Dolosa a smile whose meaning was impossible to guess. The two of them pushed open the door and left without looking back.
Dolosa stared in disbelief at what was happening before her eyes. She never imagined Asterys and Delucia would just leave, giving her the room and Liang Lai.
“Thud!”
The poor child, still reeling from the twins’ words, couldn’t recover. When she saw the two girls leave, she collapsed onto the bed.
“Feelings… for Liang Lai?” she murmured, her gaze a little blank.
What were her feelings for Liang Lai?
The blonde girl slowly turned her head, looking at Liang Lai, who was finally breathing evenly and sleeping soundly on the bed.
Her hand, as if beyond her control, slowly rose and cupped Liang Lai’s delicate little face. Liang Lai’s face was hot—maybe because she’d been short of breath just now.
Feeling the warmth in her palm, Dolosa finally started to come back to herself.
“I-I’m not even sure myself!”
She really didn’t know.
Yet, the scene from earlier automatically replayed in her mind—the way Asterys and Delucia treated the sleeping Liang Lai.
So, were Liang Lai’s lips soft? Were they warm? Were they… wait!
Dolosa’s eyes widened as she suddenly snapped back to reality.
“What am I even thinking?!”
She was so annoyed she almost wanted to punch herself.
Could it be that Asterys and Delucia were actually right? Was her feeling for Liang Lai really not that pure…
She looked at Liang Lai’s slightly swollen lips, her gaze drifting downward until it landed on Liang Lai’s disheveled collar.
“Gulp~”
Dolosa swallowed hard, feeling she could barely restrain her hands—or her thoughts.
“So, if I kiss her and don’t feel awkward or disgusted, but instead feel something like fondness… does that mean my feelings for her aren’t pure?”
With that thought in mind, Dolosa actually closed her eyes and slowly leaned toward Liang Lai.
But just as their lips were about to touch, Dolosa chickened out.
“This… This isn’t right, is it?” she muttered, suddenly sitting up straight.
Looking at the sleeping Liang Lai, Dolosa hesitated, then slowly slipped her hand under the covers and held Liang Lai’s soft, pale hand. Feeling the warmth, Dolosa couldn’t help but squeeze it tightly.
“Mm~”
Liang Lai seemed to be woken by the squeeze, letting out a soft sound. Her brows knit together, and she whimpered softly, the sound like a kitten’s paw scratching at Dolosa’s already restless heart.
“Li-Liang Lai!”
Dolosa’s face felt hot.
She touched her cheek with her free hand and, sure enough, felt burning heat.
Liang Lai’s head had rolled to the side, her silver-white hair falling away to reveal a stretch of snowy white neck.
So, in the end, I really should try it, shouldn’t I?
With that thought, Dolosa gathered her courage once more.
“J-Just for a test!”
She tried to convince herself and bent down again.
Since Liang Lai’s head was turned, Dolosa had to use her hand to gently turn it straight.
Her hand slid onto the Saintess’s neck, and her body leaned all the way in. Their faces drew closer and closer, and Dolosa could feel Liang Lai’s warm breath on her own face.
At last, she felt a sweet, soft sensation.
“Mmm!”
So this is what it felt like?
She was a little intoxicated.
She’d never kissed anyone before and didn’t know what to do next, but just being so close to Liang Lai filled her with endless happiness.
It really is… just like Asterys and Delucia said.
At this moment, Dolosa finally realized her feelings and could confirm it—her feelings for Liang Lai were anything but pure.
But once she realized it, she couldn’t stop herself.
“Ha~”
“Ha~”
“Ha~”
She breathed heavily, her grip tightening. For some reason, just thinking about what Asterys and Delucia had done earlier made her want to imitate them, so her hand on Liang Lai’s neck squeezed even harder.
