Light felt that today was a truly unlucky day.
He was already running a few days late, with time getting tight, and if he delayed any further, he’d miss the crucial Imperial Magic Academy assessment.
Yet, halfway there, he ran into a savage fellow who claimed to be heading for the same exam.
Just looking at that guy, he seemed like a blockhead.
And he wanted to get into the Imperial Magic Academy?
Light couldn’t hold back and started mouthing off, but the other guy was just as hot-tempered, not backing down at all, and responded with a “civil and gentle” flurry of words.
Light was so angry that he lost his composure and casually cast a spell, but that kid actually had some skill—his magic missed.
If it had just missed, that would’ve been fine.
After all, if it really hit and something happened, he’d be in trouble.
But not only did his magic miss, it ended up hitting a Gale Wolf that was busy counting its WeChat steps, which led to the tough battle they’d just endured.
He thought he’d be losing his life here today, but suddenly, a Legendary Expert appeared and saved them—and that expert turned out to be an unbelievably adorable little girl!
In that instant, Light felt that he really was the protagonist of this world.
Look at that, the story’s just begun and already his luck with girls has arrived.
However, just as he was thinking that this terrible day was all a setup for him to meet this little girl, another brat popped out.
The moment he appeared, the little girl immediately clung to him—clung to him!
Huh???
Light’s expression turned bewildered, then annoyed.
Because it was obvious these two knew each other, which meant that guy had probably been watching from behind all along.
If you were there, as a grown man, how could you let a little girl go fight a magical beast?
Light’s face showed a hint of contempt.
This guy was probably a coward, and not even a strong one—always hiding behind a woman when trouble comes.
He wondered how such scum managed to fool such a cute girl.
Light was indignant, and when he looked at Sara, his gaze grew even more gentle and caring.
What a pure little girl—not only pure, but also beautiful, and not just beautiful, but strong too.
It was just a shame she was a bit naïve and got tricked by a scumbag…
He swore to himself that he’d definitely save this little girl from her predicament!
Vick, standing to the side, was having similar thoughts.
Such an adorable girl couldn’t be ruined by a useless piece of trash like that!
Sara clung tightly to Li Xian’s clothes, shrinking her neck as she looked at the two strange guys in front of her.
‘These two guys have such creepy expressions…’ she thought to herself, but with her soft heart and clumsy tongue, and not wanting to cause trouble for Mr. Li Xian, she didn’t say it out loud.
“And you two are?” Li Xian patted Sara’s head, unfazed by the burning glares from the two, and looked over at them.
“Light.” The young man dressed as a Mage replied grumpily.
“Vick…” The warrior kept staring at Li Xian, his eyes filled with undisguised contempt.
Li Xian simply smiled, not caring at all. He wouldn’t stoop to argue with two rookie warriors.
And no matter how much they objected or got angry, so what?
Would Sara the cutie give them another glance?
No.
But he could stroke her silky hair, watch her cheeks flush slightly, and enjoy the sight of those two crazily eating lemons in envy.
Wasn’t that feeling pretty great?
Smiling, Li Xian put on a completely unconcerned air and continued to ask, “Why are you two here in the Northern Wildwood? Isn’t it dangerous here?”
“Heh.” Light snorted coldly at that.
As expected, a clueless country bumpkin.
Oh well, he’d be merciful enough to explain.
“You don’t know? It’s the time for the Imperial Magic Academy entrance assessment. Of course, we’re on our way to the Imperial Capital for the exam.”
He wore a confident smile.
The Imperial Magic Academy was the highest institution in the entire Empire, the dream of all young people in the Empire.
It was said that many of the teachers there were of transcendent strength, and the leader of the Six Great Ace Magicians, the Legendary Expert Lord Elvis himself, was the headmaster of the Imperial Magic Academy!
You could say the Imperial Magic Academy represented the future of the Empire, and its students were destined to become the Empire’s top elites!
With his strength and talent, getting into the Imperial Magic Academy was practically guaranteed.
But this country bumpkin with no skills?
All he could do was envy him.
That was the gap between them!
“Oh.” Upon hearing about the academy, Li Xian just shrugged, losing all interest.
Coming from that other world, he didn’t have much fondness for school, nor did this so-called Imperial Magic Academy hold any appeal for him.
Light saw Li Xian’s calm and slightly impatient look and felt even more stifled, not knowing how to vent his frustration.
‘Hmph.’ He snorted inwardly.
‘This little wimp was probably just pretending to be calm, or maybe he didn’t even know what the Imperial Magic Academy was.’
Someone like that didn’t deserve to compete with him…
“Sara, let’s go.”
Before he could finish his fantasy, Li Xian took Sara’s small hand and walked off without looking back.
Sara obediently let him hold her hand, her cheeks a bit red and shy, but she made no move to pull away.
Light was petrified.
He opened his mouth as if to say something, but no words came out.
He just stared blankly at the backs of Sara and Li Xian as they walked away, only snapping out of it when their figures completely disappeared from view.
“Hey, big guy, tell me, what kind of world is this… How come even a cowardly scumbag can have such a cute girlfriend, while the two of us are still forever single?”
“How should I know? Sigh…” Vick couldn’t help but sigh, then suddenly realized.
“Who are you calling big guy, huh? You kidney-deficient wimp!”
“Screw you, you’re the wimp, your whole family’s wimps…”
In the dense forest, the “civil and gentle” bickering started up again.
The corners of Li Xian’s mouth curled into a subtle smile as he, seemingly unintentionally, glanced back at the woods behind him.
Now this is interesting…
