As if reminding her of yesterday’s wild, burning passion, Jiang Lai now felt sore all over, especially her overworked waist.
Behind her, her sister-in-law Chi Yingyu was pressed tightly against her, restless hands rubbing against her body like an insatiable kitten.
“Alright, it’s already this late. Don’t be too rowdy.”
Jiang Lai whispered, her voice tinged with helplessness and fatigue.
She felt the warm body behind her, her emotions a tangled mess. After being tormented by Chi Yingyu for so long yesterday, her body still hadn’t recovered. Wasn’t Chi Yingyu satisfied yet?
Jiang Lai’s heart was full of affection, but she had to consider her own body. ‘From yesterday until now, even after resting for a while, my waist still hurts like crazy. If we keep going, I’ll probably fall apart.’ She didn’t want to end up with chronic problems at such a young age—there was still a long life ahead.
“Are you hungry? I’m starving right now. I want to go eat something.”
Jiang Lai almost spoke in a coaxing tone. At this moment, she only hoped Chi Yingyu would let her off the hook. Her eyes were full of pleading, afraid Chi Yingyu wouldn’t agree.
Chi Yingyu naturally caught the subtle refusal in Jiang Lai’s words. Though a bit disappointed, she wasn’t unreasonable. Since her brother-in-law didn’t want to continue, she wouldn’t force it.
She pouted, reluctantly releasing Jiang Lai from her arms. Looking up, she saw it was already noon. They hadn’t been awake long, but time had flown. If they lazed around any longer, it would be afternoon.
Chi Yingyu thought to herself, ‘I really should restrain myself. If I push my brother-in-law too hard two days in a row, by the third day he probably won’t even be able to get out of bed.’
Chi Yingyu’s heart still craved her brother-in-law’s body. Recalling how he had looked in her hands yesterday—those soft gasps—it nearly melted her bones.
She secretly gloated, ‘Now my brother-in-law’s body is completely mine. Even though I can’t torment Jiang Lai two days in a row, that doesn’t mean I don’t want to.’ Thinking about spending another wonderful night with her brother-in-law tonight, Chi Yingyu felt like a little genius. Even as she dressed and tidied herself up, her face beamed with a radiant smile.
Jiang Lai watched Chi Yingyu’s happy expression, puzzled as to why she was so cheerful. But seeing her sister-in-law so joyful, Jiang Lai’s own mood unconsciously lifted.
Yet when their eyes met, Jiang Lai flinched like a startled deer, quickly averting her gaze, a faint blush spreading across her face.
Now she almost dared not look directly at Chi Yingyu. Whenever she saw that gaze, her mind would involuntarily replay everything that had happened last night.
Last night, Chi Yingyu had been like a queen in full control, giving orders nonstop, while Jiang Lai was like a docile lamb, obediently following along.
Only one thing Jiang Lai kept begging for—could they turn off the lights in the room?
The bedside lamp had been shining brightly, illuminating everything clearly. Faced with such a stimulating scene, Jiang Lei felt her blood rush, and it made the two of them utterly exposed.
Her heart was both nervous and afraid. Though she was pinned under Chi Yingyu, she still worried she might lose control and do something she shouldn’t to her sister-in-law.
In her heart, it was fine if her sister-in-law liked to do this to her, but she herself wasn’t ready yet. The time wasn’t right. She hadn’t fully crossed that mental hurdle.
At least not yet—she wouldn’t take the initiative. Only when she had the ability to make Chi Yingyu happy and spend the rest of her life with her would she think about those things.
She knew clearly that if Chi Yingyu ever wanted to leave her in the future, she would let her go gracefully.
Jiang Lai’s mood tended to be pessimistic. Though she really liked Chi Yingyu now, she had already prepared herself for the possibility of Chi Yingyu leaving. After all, it was Chi Yingyu’s life—she had the right to decide.
After getting ready, the two left the room. Jiang Lai was still unsteady, every step feeling like walking on cotton. She just wanted to find a place to sit and replenish her energy.
Once up, Jiang Lai and Chi Yingyu had a quick discussion. Since they had exhausted themselves the night before, they decided to go out for a nice lunch to replenish themselves. They picked a restaurant both were interested in on their phones and drove there.
Sitting in the car, Jiang Lai watched Chi Yingyu drive, feeling something indescribable. She could clearly sense that their relationship had completely changed.
That subtle shift was like a sprout breaking through the soil in spring—shy yet full of life.
“Ying Yu, what… what should we do from now on?”
Jiang Lai suddenly asked softly, her voice laced with worry.
After all, in the eyes of society, their relationship was still somewhat unacceptable. She feared others’ judgment and, even more, that it might hurt Chi Yingyu.
“Don’t worry. This is our business. Others have no say in it.”
Chi Yingyu said nonchalantly. From her understanding of Jiang Lai, she could guess what her brother-in-law meant even before he finished—he was afraid their relationship wouldn’t be accepted. But who could even tell? In her heart, love was just love. There were no strict rules. Besides, instead of worrying about things that might never happen, it was better to enjoy the present.
Chi Yingyu smiled, her eyes full of determination and confidence. She didn’t care about others’ opinions; she wanted to flaunt this hard-won love.
At the restaurant, Chi Yingyu chose a seat by the window, and they sat across from each other. Sunlight streamed through the glass, casting a soft glow on Jiang Lai’s face, making her features even gentler—like a beautiful painting.
Chi Yingyu looked at Jiang Lai, love surging in her heart. She couldn’t help reaching out to gently touch her cheek. Jiang Lai’s face instantly turned as red as a ripe apple. She lightly pulled Chi Yingyu’s hand away, a hint of shyness in her eyes.
Even though it wasn’t peak mealtime and the restaurant wasn’t crowded, such intimate gestures in public still made her a bit embarrassed.
“You should hold back a little when we’re outside, okay?”
Jiang Lai reminded quietly. Before she finished, the waiter approached.
Chi Yingyu, as if wanting to show off, quickly grabbed the menu and fluently ordered all of Jiang Lai’s favorite dishes, even adding some new items she thought Jiang Lai might like.
Watching Chi Yingyu’s earnest expression, a warmth welled up in Jiang Lai’s heart. She had never imagined she would share such an intimate moment with her sister-in-law. Fearing gossip, they had rarely gone out alone after her sister-in-law grew up. But what was once taboo had now become the sweetest part of life—a feeling both wonderful and magical.
Once the food arrived, Jiang Lai and Chi Yingyu chatted while eating. Jiang Lai kept glancing at Chi Yingyu, her eyes full of tenderness and dependence, like a bird nestled close to its owner.
Chi Yingyu also paid close attention to Jiang Lai’s reactions. Whenever she saw Jiang Lai enjoy a dish, she would smile happily, her smile brighter than the sunlight.
Jiang Lai truly treasured this pleasant moment, but throughout the meal, she couldn’t help wondering how they appeared to others.
Seeing the glances from other customers, she felt a bit uneasy. Two women of similar age chatting and laughing, looking so close—others would definitely think they were best friends.
But their relationship was far more complicated. Only the two of them knew the truth. Realizing it was a secret known only to them, Jiang Lai felt something was off. She thought to herself, ‘Maybe I should reveal our relationship a little?’ She looked at Chi Yingyu, her eyes tinged with worry.
“I know you don’t care about titles, but I can’t let you stay in the dark like this forever.”
Her voice carried a hint of determination. She didn’t want Chi Yingyu to feel wronged.
“What are you trying to say?”
Chi Yingyu asked, puzzled.
“I’m saying, since we’ve decided to be together, we should let others know.”
Jiang Lai said seriously.
Chi Yingyu took Jiang Lai’s hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. “Jiang Jiang, I really don’t care about that. Just being with you is enough for me.”
In her heart, love didn’t need worldly titles to prove itself.
Jiang Lai shook her head. “Maybe others don’t need to know, but I have to tell Le Yi about our relationship. She’s my daughter. I can’t hide it from her.”
Her eyes revealed the responsibility of a parent. She didn’t want to keep secrets from her daughter.
Chi Yingyu looked at Jiang Lai’s determined eyes and nodded.
“And it’ll be better for us to be clear from the start. I respect your decision, but I’m a bit worried about Le Yi’s reaction. I’m afraid she won’t accept it.”
Chi Yingyu felt uneasy. In Jiang Leyi’s eyes, she had always been the closest thing to a mother figure. If she really got together with Jiang Lai, how would Le Yi feel? Would she think Chi Yingyu had taken everything from her mother?
She knew Jiang Leyi was a good kid, and that was exactly why she feared her choice might hurt her. Plus, her older sister was still around Jiang Leyi, which made her even more worried.
After lunch, Jiang Lai and Chi Yingyu returned home. Jiang Lai sat on the sofa, took a deep breath, and dialed her daughter Jiang Leyi’s number. Chi Yingyu sat beside her, holding her hand, waiting quietly.
The thought of coming out about their relationship made Chi Yingyu incredibly nervous. She almost felt like someone who dared to act but not to take responsibility. Her palms were slightly sweaty, and her heartbeat involuntarily quickened.
The phone rang a few times before Jiang Leyi picked up. “Hello? What’s wrong?”
Jiang Lai hesitated, then said, “Le Yi, Dad has something to tell you. Please don’t get angry after you hear it. It’s that your aunt and I… we… we’re together. I’ll explain everything to you properly.”
Jiang Lai’s voice trembled as she nervously waited for her daughter’s response. There was silence on the other end for a moment, but the exclamation that followed was not just her daughter’s voice.
