“You’re a smart one, so you should know why I’m following you, right?” Chi Xue grinned foolishly.
“You want to use us as meat shields, push us out to get killed by the Wolf, and then trigger your own ability to strike back. That’s why you’d do anything to get into our team.” Bai Wuzhuang explained.
“That’s the worst-case scenario! Ideally, we’d cooperate as a team and wipe out the Wolves without a scratch.” Chi Xue quickly tried to justify herself.
“What rotten luck. If you were any of the other three days’ Ram, that would be fine. What use is an ability that can’t actively kill Sheep?” Bai Wuzhuang sighed helplessly and shook her head.
“Little trickster, we’ve been standing here too long. It’s time to change locations.” Dong Huiting said.
“Mm.” Bai Wuzhuang nodded.
“Are we bringing her? Do you trust her?” Dong Huiting asked.
“Her identity is suspicious, but she probably isn’t a Wolf. Let’s team up.” Bai Wuzhuang nodded again.
“Yay!” Chi Xue cheered with delight.
The three of them huddled together as they moved forward, but Dong Huiting didn’t trust this barefooted girl at all.
She always kept a step behind, watching her warily, ready to freeze her at a moment’s notice.
But the three wandered the Maze like headless flies, eventually stumbling into a Weapon Room.
Inside, a variety of weapons were displayed, and there were also some clothes.
Chi Xue happily picked out some dresses, grabbing a few pieces of women’s clothing and starting to try them on without a hint of urgency.
Bai Wuzhuang went to look for a weapon, hoping to find a sword that suited her.
She tried several swords, swinging each one for a while, but none felt right—they were all useless in her hands.
The reason was simple: her current body was just too weak, her strength too lacking, her cultivation too low.
She couldn’t even wield a single-handed sword properly.
“You’re only fit to use this kind of thing.” Dong Huiting handed over a Short Sword, mocking her with a sneer.
“Hm?” Bai Wuzhuang took the Short Sword, gave it a couple of swings, and sure enough, it felt much better.
She drew the Short Sword to examine it—the blade was pitch-black, a blood groove ran along its face, and the tip was sharp as can be. What a deadly weapon for a point of no return.
“Aren’t you picking a weapon?” Bai Wuzhuang asked Dong Huiting.
“I don’t need a sword. I am a weapon.” Dong Huiting replied disdainfully.
“Sword Sect, huh? Not a single person uses a sword.” Bai Wuzhuang muttered under her breath.
She had joined this little sect called the Sword Sect of Demon Apprehension, but among one master and three disciples, not a single person was a sword cultivator—they were all solitary cultivators.
Of course, that was normal for a small sect. They just learned whatever cultivation technique they could find, without such lofty ambitions.
Still, Dong Huiting did know a bit about sword-related cultivation techniques.
Namely, her [Ice Soul Sword Transformation]. It was called a sword move, but didn’t have much to do with actual swordsmanship.
“Humming~ hm-hm-hmm~”
Chi Xue was humming a little tune as she finished dressing up, donning a beautiful long skirt and pale white boots. She looked the very picture of innocence and purity.
“Ladies, I see you both have a good foundation. Why don’t you try on the lovely dresses I picked for you?” Chi Xue said teasingly.
“No need.” Dong Huiting rejected her outright.
“We’re in a secret realm. Dressing so well just means dying pretty. It’s an ill omen.” Bai Wuzhuang’s refusal sounded more cultured.
“Have you both been hurt by men? Why do you act like wooden dolls? How are you ever going to attract a man like this? What a waste of such fine looks.” Chi Xue remarked sharply.
“Shut up! Don’t get snippy with me or I’ll kill you!” Dong Huiting snapped.
Chi Xue pouted in fear and stopped talking—this time, she really sensed killing intent.
“Why do you always have to bring up the most awkward thing?” Bai Wuzhuang mumbled quietly.
“What did you say?” Dong Huiting glared at her again.
“No, nothing, I didn’t say anything. All right, let’s sit down and talk about our next move.” Bai Wuzhuang said.
When it came to serious matters, everyone became solemn. They sat in a circle and whispered together.
“I’m the White Sheep.” Bai Wuzhuang revealed her identity.
“White Sheep? Isn’t that the one who can check other people’s Identity Tokens? Really? Are you lying to me?” Chi Xue asked.
“If you don’t believe we’re Sheep, why are you following us? Looking to die?” Bai Wuzhuang’s patience was running thin.
“What about the big mushroom girl?” Chi Xue turned to Dong Huiting.
“I’m just a powerless Sheep.” Dong Huiting answered honestly, not hiding a thing.
“The three of us really have no initiative at all. If we had a Ram and a Black Sheep, we could actually take the fight to them.” Bai Wuzhuang looked helpless.
Truly, they’d drawn the worst possible hand. That was why Bai Wuzhuang had woken up fuming at her Identity Token.
If just one of them—or any of her teammates—had an offensive ability, plus her own Time Rewinder power, they could have gone straight after the Wolf. Too bad not a single teammate was reliable.
“The one I checked is Qing Shaofei, so my plan is to share the information I get with you all next round. Then, at the Exile Meeting, you two can pretend to be White Sheep and share what I told you. If the Curse Wolf dares to curse you, it’ll backfire and kill them for sure.” Bai Wuzhuang said.
“Curse Wolf—is that the Wolf who can curse Sheep to death after knowing their identity?” Dong Huiting asked.
“That’s right. If they guess wrong, the curse will rebound. This way, we can get rid of at least one Wolf.” Bai Wuzhuang explained.
“That sounds like a great plan!” Chi Xue cheered, instantly feeling reassured.
“We could have done this plan with just the two of us without you. Honestly, I didn’t want to tell you, useless Sheepdog. Don’t think I don’t know what you’re scheming—you just want us to take the hit for you, not trustworthy at all.” Bai Wuzhuang snorted coldly.
“Then what would make you trust me?” Chi Xue asked.
“You’ll be the one to relay the information later. You’ll pretend to be the White Sheep.” Bai Wuzhuang raised a little finger and pointed.
“…Fine.” Chi Xue nodded, agreeing reluctantly.
“Is this really okay? Can we trust her? Let me do it. She might say something crazy or even expose us.” Dong Huiting doubted.
“What else can we do? Lord Dong, you won’t get rid of her, so I have no choice but to use this as a last resort.” Bai Wuzhuang pretended to be innocent.
“So now you’re blaming me? Little trickster, I’m not like you—I walk the straight and narrow.” Dong Huiting crossed her arms, her head held high, adopting a lecturing stance.
“…”
Bai Wuzhuang pouted, her face full of doubt.
“You doubt my integrity?” Dong Huiting demanded.
“No, I don’t doubt your integrity. I just doubt your intelligence.” Bai Wuzhuang quipped.
Dong Huiting finally couldn’t take it.
She reached out with five fingers and grabbed for Bai Wuzhuang’s face, though she didn’t really use force. The two of them scuffled together like a couple of children.
“You two are really close.” Chi Xue chuckled softly.
“Close? This brat tricked her way into our sect just to do chores and atone for her sins, and even managed to secretly learn our cultivation technique, awakening as a Qi Cultivator behind our backs.” Dong Huiting fumed even more.
