“What now? What should we do?” Kebo Si asked, “Forget about long-range attacks, these people don’t even have the strength to talk back anymore. Haven’t we already secured a complete victory?”
“Not yetโฆ”
Samimi suddenly became serious.
She looked toward the stage at the writhing Cardinal Archbishop, his face twisted in pain as he squirmed like a fat wormโutterly pathetic.
Tai Lus Grand Archbishop and his Holy Ministry Tribunal Group had completely lost their momentum. Faced with the public will of the Swamp, and the Demon-Hunting Nun reborn through the cleansing flames, they collectively raised their hands in surrender.
Heh. Samimi used to think this would be a bloodbath, that the People’s Square of the Royal City would run with rivers of blood today. But in the end, the Crown Prince’s Consort still favored these spineless traitors with their ability to switch sides with the wind.
Now that everyone has given up resisting, we can’t just execute them, can we?
But I, Samimi, will never admit my opponents are just these kinds of people, nor will I allow the perfect stage I’ve constructed to be wasted like this.
Otherwise, what was the point of going through so much effort and risk to take the stage? Might as well die outright and let the residents of the Royal City and the scattered saints suffer another ten years.
If the Church’s final boss is just this level of trash, then all these days of scheming have been wastedโbetter to let Modern Jiao Bi mentor kill him and be done with it.
So, come on! Hurry up, show yourself!
It’s time for the Church to enter the second phase.
Suddenly, a Second Company Holy Knight dashed along eighteen roads at full gallop, racing to the underground of the Sacred Execution Platform. He jumped off his horse, his helmet thrown askew, drenched in sweat.
“What happened?” An old Holy Knight rushed forward to steady him.
“Iโฆ Iโฆ Iโฆ” The messenger Holy Knight stammered anxiously.
“Catch your breath, then speak.” The old Holy Knight patted his leg.
“It’s the Grand Leader! He’s here!” the messenger Sanctuary Knight exclaimed.
Upon hearing this, the Second Company Holy Knights all tensed up, clenching their abdomens as if they were convicts about to be judged, awaiting their final verdict.
“Don’t dawdle, Niubao, go change your equipment!” Samimi arrived at the rear of the Sacred Execution Platform, dragging the dazed Niubao along.
“Y-yes, Lady,” Niubao finally woke up. Without further delay, he shed his chains and prison rags, opened the hatch on the floor, and crawled into the storage compartment.
“My bow? Did you bring my bow?” Keluosi was anxious, pacing in circlesโafter all, without the Arrow of Dream, she was utterly powerless.
Niubao, now dressed in the Demon-Expelling Nun’s light armor, grabbed the Sacred Ingot and the yellow staff, and tossed Keluosi a small quiver.
Keluosi caught the small quiver; inside, there was only a single, slender arrow.
No need to say moreโher expression at this moment was obvious to all.
Samimi squinted into the distance; she could already see a huge army of unfamiliar Holy Knights surging toward them from the end of the avenue in the Royal City.
“Champion, this has nothing to do with you. I guarantee your companions’ safety. Please withdraw for now,” Second Company Commander Ophika no longer tangled with the Azure Moon Rampaging Dragon, offering a brief explanation before quickly returning to the Kun Knights’ Second Company to take charge.
The Mad Moon Disciple and the former Holy Knight of the Church had exchanged over a hundred moves, realizing neither had the intention to go all out. There was no true will to fightโevery move was just for show.
“Loyalty! Loyalty! Loyalty!”
The thunderous sound of hooves echoed through everyone’s ears. With unstoppable momentum, the cavalry charged straight into People’s Square of the Royal City, heading directly toward the gathered crowd.
At last, the rushing cavalry stopped in the center of the square, forming a fierce defensive line.
A closer look revealed it was a regiment of over five hundred gold-armored Holy Knights. Each Kun Knight rode a fully armored warhorse, not wielding Holy Knight swords, but thick, sturdy cavalry lances.
These were true cavalry, not just heavily armored infantry like us.
It was well known that each Sakaden Knight was as powerful as a hundred men, and the Eastern Asia Cavalry’s Holy Knights were even more formidable than the garrison Sanctuary Knights stationed in the Royal City. So, five hundred Kun Knights could easily equal the strength of a regular army of a hundred thousand.
The Second Company of Sage Knights had only about fifty membersโthe enemy outnumbered us ten to one!
So this was the true ace of the Church?
Why not just invade the palace and take over the kingdom yourselves!
Besides these five hundred elite Holy Knights, the leading trio were ultimate experts, all without helmets. Only those able to face the wind and sand bareheaded could be truly powerfulโanyone else wouldn’t survive.
On the left was a refined man with a stern face, the Four Lian Commander of the Kun Chrysanthemum Knight Order, one of the four Sakaden Knights, known as the [Sword of Dread], a legendary figure.
On the right was a bald, savage-looking man, the Third Company Commander of the Kun Knight Order and another Sakaden Knight, notorious for his cruelty, with no friends or supporters.
In the center stood a massive man with a godlike face and a jaw like a fortress, with a physique far larger than any ordinary manโhe was practically a giant.
Even the horse beneath him was far larger than a normal warhorse, strong enough to support such a towering manโotherwise, it would be impossible to carry him.
He looked down on everything, as if the whole world had to yield to him.
Even the two company commanders by his side were dwarfed by his presence, looking like mere bystanders next to him.
This man was the Grand Leader of the Sanctuary Knights, Zha Fu Guo Mi Ji Si.
In private, everyone in the Sanctuary Knights would quietly call himโฆ
“Brother Zha, you arrived so fast,” Second Company Commander Ophika swallowed nervously and greeted him.
“Little Wei, I received reports that you’re stirring up trouble in the Churchโs secret vault, attempting rebellionโis that true?” Brother Zha asked calmly.
“Why would I? I’m only protecting the Churchโs secret vault, performing my official duties. I’ve never thought of rebelling. Grand Leader, you must not believe such rumors,” Ophika replied.
“Doesnโt look likeโฆ thereโs any order left,” Brother Zha mused.
The once-orderly clergy were in chaos, the Cardinal Archbishop lay shot on the ground, the nuns conducting bizarre ceremoniesโeverything had lost all semblance of order.
Hearing this, Ophikaโs forehead broke out in cold sweat.
“Archbishop, you should offer an explanation,” Brother Zha demanded.
At this, a figure stepped out from among the Kun Knightsโit was none other than the Nameless Archbishop.
He too rode a warhorse, his sturdy figure blending seamlessly among the Sanctuary Knights. It seemed heโd spent his absence reporting everything.
“I have nothing to explain. Grand Leader, you saw it yourselfโthey committed insubordination, even injuring Tai Lus Grand Archbishop. They must pay for their crimes,” the Nameless Archbishop accused coldly.
“Nonsense! It was you who, in your quest for the throne, falsely accused the Demon-Hunting Nun and started this mess!” Ophika retorted.
“Do you have proof? Why would we want the Papal throne? On the contrary, youโre rallying the Popeโs grandson to seize power. Thatโs the real crime. Weโve only been working to maintain peace in the Churchโall the chaos was caused by them, disturbing our tranquility,” the Nameless Archbishop continued accusingly.
“You shameless fiend!” Ophika was furious.
“Ophika,” Brother Zha called sharply.
Second Company Commander Ophika immediately trembled, falling silent.
“It seems youโve forgotten the duty of a Holy Knight. We never get involved in internal Church disputes, but now youโve forced the Grand Leader, Third, and Fourth Companies to return to the Royal City. This seriously violates the rules of the Holy Knight Order,” Brother Zha said coldly.
Ophika bit her lip, for she understood exactly what the Grand Leader meant.
“Internal power struggles have nothing to do with us. How could you take sides? Evidence? Framing? What does it matter? These petty issues happen every day, but if we had to intervene each time, weโd never get a break,” Brother Zha continued criticizing.
“Petty issues?” Ophikaโs voice trembled as she clenched her fists.
But she had always known this would be the outcome. Hearing it out loud, however, extinguished her last hope.
“Hurry and apologize to the Archbishop. I can still spare you. As for the others, arrest them all and throw them in the dungeon. Thatโs the best way,” Brother Zha said.
“Apologize? Over my dead body!” Ophika shouted.
At those words, both sidesโthe Sanctuary Knightsโcouldnโt help but suck in a cold breath.
“Iโm sick of your endless bureaucracy! Right is right, wrong is wrong!” Ophika drew her sword and pointed it at Grand Leader Zha, shouting, “After we finish off these two archbishops, youโre next! Die, bald bastard! Give up your seat as Grand Leader of the Sanctuary Knights!”
Sigh, in the end, even among the Kun women, only Mi Chong Lin could get along with her for so longโtheir temperaments were exactly the same, uncompromising weirdos to the core.
Zha remained unruffled by such insubordination, his expression unchangedโstill towering above.
He only said calmly, “Take them down.”
With a single command, the Sanctuary Knights closed ranks, completely surrounding the Sakaden Knights’ Second Company.
There was no turning back now. Next would be a civil war among the Holy Knights.
But just as the battle was about to break out, another sudden change occurred!
“Loyalty! Loyalty! Loyalty!”
From both the left and right entrances to People’s Square, the sound of hoofbeats thundered in. The crowds of civilians and Church followers parted to make way.
In a flash, two more massive units stormed into the square, encircling the Kun Knight Grand Regiment.
At this moment, the soldiers outnumbered the civiliansโwas this really going to end in disaster?
Originally, the Sage Knights’ Second Company had no chance against the Kun Knights Grand Regiment and the Nameless Archbishop. Defeat was inevitable.
But now, with the arrival of two additional regiments, the situation was suddenly balanced once again.
“You allโฆ everyoneโฆ”
Samimi swept her gaze around and saw countless familiar facesโeveryone had come to support her.
Even someone as cold-hearted as Mi Chong couldnโt help but feel a surge of emotion.
They came. The final showdown begins.
