Everyone felt that Yao Ruoning was a bit abnormal, and one of the two law enforcers had to come over and communicate with her.
It was the older one, Officer Liu.
He walked over with a peaceful expression and showed his ID. Just as he was about to put it away, Yao Ruoning actually reached out to take a serious look at his credentials.
This was quite unexpected. Officer Liu had enforced the law in front of ordinary citizens more than once and had shown his ID tens of thousands of times.
Only a few times had someone actually wanted to take his ID and examine it closely.
And now he had encountered such a case.
Yao Ruoning wasn’t doubting the authenticity of the item; she just wanted to see a person’s ID out of pure curiosity.
What if she needed to use it for copywriting at the company in the future?
“Young lady, this is definitely real,” Officer Liu explained to her kindly.
After looking at it for a while, she handed it back to him.
Just as he was about to start on the official business, the girl proactively took out her ID card and handed it to him.
‘Oh, so proactive? Such a sensible girl at such a young age?’
Officer Liu had originally intended to ask only as a formality, but now he became serious.
Huh? An adult? She clearly looked a bit younger, but she already met the world’s standard for an adult.
His gaze flickered back and forth between the ID card and the girl herself a few times.
Officer Liu continued to look at the ID card. There were old marks on it, and it looked like it had been used for 1 or 2 years. Looking at the issue date, it was indeed from 2 years ago.
This was, of course, the result of Huang Yi intentionally aging it.
Having found no issues with the ID card, Officer Liu began his verbal inquiry using very official language.
For example, what was she doing here? Was she in school or working? Which school did she attend? Where did she plan to apply in the future? How many times had she been underground?
After pretending to think, she gave a standard answer.
She was here to gather material for a school summer break extracurricular assignment to learn about one of the lifelines of the current world.
Officer Liu naturally wouldn’t investigate too deeply; he wouldn’t go as far as asking the school or her parents.
The advantage of her age was apparent. The officer didn’t think the girl was lying or that she was a deep-thinking person.
Who could have guessed that inside this young body was a 34-year-old male pilot — with plenty of little schemes?
The other young law enforcer took the opportunity to talk to the workers in the carriage one by one.
It was also a very simple conversation, getting to know why they were here and their identities.
Usually, checking IDs wasn’t necessary, but because Yao Ruoning had proactively submitted hers, the other workers followed suit and offered their IDs as well.
The young officer checked them one by one. He had originally thought it would be a hassle and was becoming a bit impatient.
When he reached Carriage One and touched a certain ID card, he was about to habitually ask the person’s reason for being underground when he suddenly felt something was wrong and froze for a moment.
‘This ID card is so new.’
He looked at the issue date — 10 months ago. It was normal for it to be relatively new.
He started chatting with the person again.
“Mr. Zhang, what is your reason for being here?”
“I’m here to work,” replied a middle-aged man who looked to be in his 50s.
“Where do you work?”
“The rubber factory.”
“How long have you been working there?”
“For over half a year.”
The officer then asked a few questions about daily life and confirmed with the people nearby, “Do you know Mr. Zhang?”
“Yeah, we’re old acquaintances. We often drink together.”
“Old Zhang? Of course I know him. He works near our factory.”
“I’ve seen him on the train occasionally, but we haven’t talked.”
With others testifying for him, it seemed there were no problems.
Just as the officer was about to return the ID card and go talk to the next worker, a hand suddenly reached out and intercepted it.
Mr. Zhang and the young officer turned their heads to see Officer Liu, who had finished his chat.
He looked at the ID card and made a few gestures toward the young officer, telling him to go ask the others while he took over the current task, facing the 50-year-old middle-aged man.
“Mr. Zhang, are you a bit nervous?”
Officer Liu was still observing the ID card.
“The underground environment is so oppressive; it always makes people a bit uncomfortable.”
Mr. Zhang’s breathing was very steady. It was unclear how Liu could tell he was nervous.
At least Yao Ruoning didn’t see anything special about this man.
He had a very common face, the image of a very ordinary middle-aged man struggling for his family. He had even changed into his work clothes in advance to save time and avoid trouble.
‘Isn’t this quite normal?’
Her attention shifted out the window to the breathtaking facilities.
On one hand, it was to maintain her character and look like she was gathering material; on the other hand, she was truly curious about those facilities.
Officer Liu over there was still questioning him. He asked Mr. Zhang for some family information.
The man claimed to have a wife and a son at home, a happy three-person family.
At this point, Officer Liu asked for his home contact information.
“Is there a problem, Officer Liu?”
Mr. Zhang was a bit curious.
“No problem, just a routine risk assessment.”
Officer Liu dialed the number provided.
While waiting for the call to connect, he made eye contact with Mr. Zhang, and the latter looked away.
After a long wait, the call went through. It was a woman’s voice.
“Hello, who is this?”
After Officer Liu briefly introduced himself and chatted with her, he confirmed she was Mr. Zhang’s wife. The information matched up.
The atmosphere on the scene became a bit tense. Even the workers who had been joking felt the air grow heavy.
Asking others only took a few sentences, but for some reason, the conversation with Mr. Zhang lasted a particularly long time — at least several times longer than the others.
10 minutes later, the questioning was almost over.
Officer Liu suddenly said, “Mr. Zhang, it’s like this. There are some situations we still need to understand further. Could you please come to the security bureau above the metro after you get off work today, all right?”
Mr. Zhang nodded.
“What specifically do you need to know?”
“Don’t be nervous. It’s just some work-related questions, just a formality,” Officer Liu said, handing the ID card back to him.
He then continued to ask the others.
Yao Ruoning was still observing the scenery outside, completely unaware that many things had happened in the carriage.
The disadvantage of her intelligence not being exceptional became apparent. She also had no experience in security work, so she naturally didn’t sense the abnormality in the carriage.
The metro reached a few more stops, and people kept getting off. Even the two officers left Carriage One and went outside.
A few minutes later, the train started up again.
Only Yao Ruoning, still looking at the scenery, and Mr. Zhang, who worked at the rubber factory, remained in Carriage One.
After another half an hour of traveling, the scenery outside changed from an agricultural style to an industrial one.
Along the way, she also saw many freight railways unloading and loading cargo.
The scenery wasn’t very pretty, but it was even more breathtaking.
Countless tracks and pipes crisscrossed in the giant underground space, so organized that it could make an OCD patient feel satisfied all day long. A large amount of resources was transported into the factory through conveyor belts, and robotic arms were automatically processing them. It was almost like an automated factory game.
Humans were patrolling near the factory, performing work like security guards.
Mr. Zhang didn’t get off the train for another 20 minutes, moving further and further away from Yao Ruoning’s line of sight.
Suddenly, she felt her phone vibrate and checked the messages.
There were messages from Liang Tai, as well as from Huan Hong and Jin Luan.
Although the messages were from different people, the content was similar.
[What the hell? What is this? Look at [Image 1]]
[Have you guys seen this before? Is this also a Demonic Creature? [Image 1, Image 2]]
Yao Ruoning was shocked.
With just one look, she got goosebumps all over.
That thing was the primary natural enemy of all Magical Girls — one of the regular mainstays found in R18 works.
