“Finished showering,” Cheng Jinyu looked at the person in front of him and saw her black hair dripping wet over her shoulders.
Her face was flushed with a rosy tint, her skin soft and delicate, glowing in the steam.
Meng Chu suddenly raised her hand and pointed at her wet hair. “Smell my hair. Does it still smell?”
Cheng Jinyu was taken aback.
Seeing that he didn’t respond, Meng Chu reached out and lifted a strand of hair, whining pitifully, “Something dirty touched my hair today.”
Cheng Jinyu frowned tightly. “Did someone touch your hair?”
“No touching, just touching,” Meng Chu seemed to dislike the word “touch.”
Cheng Jinyu immediately guessed that someone must have brushed against her hair at the dinner party tonight.
No wonder she got so drunk and insisted on showering.
Meng Chu was still staring at the wet ends of her hair, seemingly worried whether there was still a smell.
Cheng Jinyu bent slightly, bringing his nose close to the strands between her fingers and sniffed lightly.
Then he slowly looked up at her and said seriously, “It’s clean. Smells good.”
His words seemed very convincing, and Meng Chu immediately believed him.
She breathed a sigh of relief and smiled at him. “Alright then.”
“Alright, now you can sleep,” Meng Chu nodded and walked toward the room.
Cheng Jinyu saw the wet ends of her hair dripping water and the pajamas on her shoulder were dampened.
“You haven’t dried your hair yet,” Cheng Jinyu reminded her.
But Meng Chu obviously didn’t care and went straight to the room.
Cheng Jinyu had no choice but to go back to the bathroom to find the hairdryer. Fortunately, everything in Meng Chu’s house was very neat and organized.
The hairdryer was hanging on the bathroom wall, easily spotted.
When he came back with the hairdryer, Meng Chu was sitting by the bed.
“What are you doing?” Cheng Jinyu asked as he plugged in the hairdryer on the bedside outlet.
“Waiting for my hair to dry. I can’t lie on the bed until my hair is dry.”
Cheng Jinyu glanced at her and laughed, “You really are cute and obedient.”
If she wasn’t obedient, she had her own set of rules—demanding to shower even though she was drunk.
But when he spoke, she seemed willing to listen.
Cheng Jinyu squatted in front of her and tilted his head up to look at her. “Want me to dry your hair?”
Meng Chu nodded obediently.
He stood up and aimed the hairdryer at her hair.
Meng Chu’s thick, beautiful black hair, now wet, looked heavier.
Cheng Jinyu had never dried someone’s hair before, so at first he just blew the air at her hair.
Seeing her try to dodge slightly, probably because the hot air was too much on her skin,
he then cupped her hair in his hand and gently blew down the strands little by little.
When he reached the top of her head, his fingers slowly ruffled through her hair.
Meng Chu, who had been quietly looking down, suddenly raised her head to look at him.
“What’s wrong?” Cheng Jinyu asked softly.
Though still a bit dazed, when his fingers touched her scalp, she felt a pleasant tingling all over and was at a loss for words.
After a long moment, she lowered her head and said in a soft voice, “It feels good.”
Cheng Jinyu raised an eyebrow.
Then she said again, “You drying my hair feels good.”
“I’ll dry it for you from now on,” Cheng Jinyu looked at her and said slowly.
Meng Chu seemed afraid he would regret it and nodded quickly. “Yes, you have to keep your promise.”
Her hair was long and thick, so drying took quite a while.
By the time her hair was completely dry, Meng Chu was truly dozing off.
She seemed to sigh with relief when the sound of the hairdryer stopped.
“Alright, let’s sleep now.”
Then Meng Chu hugged the thin quilt and lay down inside.
Cheng Jinyu stood by the bed, lowered his head, and made room for her.
After a long pause, he asked in a voice full of restraint, “You want me to sleep here?”
Meng Chu, who was already obediently lying on her pillow, used her last bit of consciousness to say, “Yumian is in the next room. You can’t sleep there. You can only sleep with me.”
Cheng Jinyu was sure she was drunk, but this drunk Meng Chu was different.
She was like a perfectly programmed Little Robot.
She knew to shower before sleeping and knew not to lie on the bed with wet hair.
Every word she said was logical.
And the reason she was willing to let him sleep beside her was that, in her programming,
Cheng Jinyu was Meng Chu’s husband.
So he couldn’t sleep in the room next door, but he could sleep in her room.
Or maybe, he thought, she had completely let down her guard around him.
Realizing this, a smile spread through the depths of Cheng Jinyu’s black eyes.
*
Pain.
Such pain.
A splitting headache.
As Meng Chu’s consciousness slowly returned, the first sensation was a fierce pain erupting from her head.
Though the nausea from the hangover had subsided, the discomfort in her stomach lingered.
What hurt even more was her whole body. Although she had been drinking, she felt as if she had been run over.
It must be dawn.
The faint light outside filtered through the not-so-heavy curtains.
The chirping of birds outside also drifted into the room intermittently.
What time was it?
Meng Chu reached out to find her phone, which she usually kept on the bedside table.
But after searching for a long time, she couldn’t find it in the usual spot.
She thought maybe it was too far, so she leaned sideways to reach for it.
But as she leaned over, her foot suddenly kicked something.
Startled, Meng Chu instinctively looked back and froze instantly.
She was frightened.
Because she suddenly realized that the bed, which usually only had her sleeping on it, now had another person lying beside her.
She widened her eyes and stared at the man sleeping soundly.
This was the first time Meng Chu had ever seen a man’s sleeping face.
Of course, sleeping face on a desk didn’t count.
This was quiet, lying peacefully on the bed.
Cheng Jinyu was only a few dozen centimeters away.
He wasn’t covered by anything — normally it would be the thin quilt on her—but only one corner of it lightly draped over his chest.
He was lying on his side, eyes tightly closed, his cold, sharp gaze hidden.
He looked much gentler and softer this way.
He really slept well.
So quietly and peacefully all this time.
But—
Meng Chu couldn’t help but slowly cover her face with the quilt.
Why was he sleeping in her bed?!
Meng Chu knew she drank last night, but she didn’t remember much.
As she tried to recall, only scattered fragments of memories came to mind.
She didn’t even remember when Cheng Jinyu came to her place.
Meng Chu had always thought her alcohol tolerance was decent. Especially after starting her business, she had to attend many dinners.
She never got so drunk as to lose her mind.
So why was she so fuzzy about last night?
The worst part — why were they lying on the same bed?
Meng Chu covered her face with the quilt again but couldn’t help pulling it away slightly.
She looked down at what she was wearing.
Pajamas.
They were still intact.
She breathed a sigh of relief.
But then froze again.
Pajamas??
Who changed her?
She should have been wearing regular clothes when she came back. How did she end up in pajamas?
Meng Chu pulled back the quilt and looked again. It was definitely pajamas.
What did she do last night?
Just as Meng Chu tried desperately to recall, a slightly hoarse voice sounded from beside her.
“Awake?”
At that voice, Meng Chu’s hand clenched the thin quilt tightly.
She sat stiffly on the bed.
Cheng Jinyu had slowly sat up. He looked at Meng Chu, who was also sitting, and asked, “Does your head still hurt?”
“No,” Meng Chu mumbled, her face half-covered by the quilt.
Cheng Jinyu didn’t expose her.
Then, in a calm tone, he asked, “Want some water? Are you thirsty?”
Hangovers usually brought thirst.
Meng Chu took a deep breath quietly and shook her head. “Not thirsty.”
Then she bit her lip and, as if making up her mind, looked up at Cheng Jinyu. “About last night…”
“You don’t remember?” Cheng Jinyu asked calmly when she hesitated.
Huh?
What was there to remember?
She really didn’t remember much.
Meng Chu had always believed she handled her alcohol well, but that belief was shaken today.
“Really don’t remember?”
Cheng Jinyu smiled low and hoarsely, his voice lazy and casual.
The calmer he was, the more Meng Chu felt uneasy.
After all, Cheng Jinyu definitely wasn’t drunk last night.
He probably wouldn’t have laid down in her bed on his own.
Given the situation, if one of them had lost control, it could only be her.
Meng Chu first asked, “Did you help me change into these pajamas?”
At this moment, Cheng Jinyu shifted position, resting his hands behind him lazily. Then he asked quietly, “Do you think I would help?”
Meng Chu snapped her head to look at him. Cheng Jinyu didn’t seem inclined to tease her.
“You didn’t want to shower yourself, so you changed into the pajamas yourself.”
Oh.
So it was all her doing.
Meng Chu breathed a sigh of relief and thought, well, at least it was her.
She silently admired herself.
To drink so much and still be able to shower and change clothes — she really was impressive.
As for the rest, Meng Chu suddenly didn’t want to ask.
After all, just sharing a bed wasn’t a big deal.
Let’s just say it was an accident — an accident that was okay.
With that thought, Meng Chu decided not to pursue the topic further.
Not everything in life needed to be figured out.
But just as she thought that, Cheng Jinyu, who sat opposite her, suddenly spoke with an amused tone: “It’s just that the reason I’m sleeping here…”
“There’s no need to explain,” Meng Chu interrupted suddenly.
Cheng Jinyu’s lips twitched slightly, and he slowly said, “No, I have to explain. After all, it concerns my character.”
His character?
Had it reached that level?
Meng Chu looked at him blankly.
“Since you were drunk last night, if I took advantage of you, wouldn’t that be suspicion of taking advantage of the vulnerable?”
Cheng Jinyu looked righteously serious, making Meng Chu feel an ominous premonition.
She rubbed her forehead.
So what exactly did she do?
“I was originally going to make do on the sofa,” Cheng Jinyu said, dragging out the last syllable. He stared at her and slowly said, “But you stopped me.”
Meng Chu was surprised. “Huh? I stopped you?”
Cheng Jinyu nodded slowly and lowered his eyes, showing a hint of innocence.
“You said I could only sleep with you.”
