Seeing this, the group didn’t delay and entered the car one after another.
Ling Xiaoyou sat in the passenger seat and glanced at the car that had been flung into the air by the explosion. She was a bit worried about whether it could still start.
‘We’re driving, huh… She doesn’t have the car keys either, right? Why is she just going with it so naturally… but wait, can Bai Shuanglian even drive?’
Ling Xiaoyou complained internally.
However, as it turned out, as a cultivator, Bai Shuanglian didn’t need anything like keys if she wanted to drive.
She placed her right hand on the dashboard, and with a flicker of Spirit Power from her hand, the car started smoothly and drove forward along the road.
Seeing this, Ling Xiaoyou opened her mouth slightly, never imagining that a car could be started with Spirit Power.
Was this the legendary “Spirit Power can do anything”?
Just as Ling Xiaoyou was thinking this, she heard Bai Xiqing’s voice from the back seat.
Bai Xiqing leaned forward toward the front of the car, looked at the road ahead, then turned her gaze to Bai Shuanglian and asked in confusion,
“Sis, where are we going? And what was that hand just now?”
Hearing Bai Xiqing’s question, Ling Xiaoyou also pulled her scattered thoughts together and focused on the conversation between the two sisters.
She was also curious about where Bai Shuanglian intended to take them.
“Now we’re heading to another location in the Imperial Capital that has an Inter-region Teleportation Array—the headquarters of the Imperial Capital Exorcists Association.”
Bai Shuanglian explained,
“As for the hand you asked about, it’s obviously from a patrol captain of the Regulatory Division. Its purpose was to temporarily stabilize the building that was about to collapse earlier, so it can be dealt with after this incident is over.”
Hearing this, Bai Xiqing nodded in understanding and didn’t ask any further.
Ling Xiaoyou, however, had a slightly different take.
That hand was undoubtedly from Team Leader Lin.
After all, Lin had suddenly called her, and her goal was to remotely cast a spell through Ling Xiaoyou, who was nearby, to stabilize the hotel building.
But if Team Leader Lin only used a long-range spell instead of coming in person, it clearly meant she couldn’t get away.
In other words, she was being held up by something else.
That something was probably the sudden demon attack on the Imperial Capital.
However, even though Ling Xiaoyou only knew Team Leader Lin from the Regulatory Division, the Division definitely had more people in the Imperial Capital than just Lin’s team.
Yet all of them were unable to lend a hand.
Either the scope of the attack was too large, or they were all tied up by some situation.
But either way, it showed the severity of the current crisis.
Thinking about this, Ling Xiaoyou’s heart sank.
It seemed this incident was much bigger than she had imagined.
It was likely not just a simple surprise attack.
She glanced out the window at the road.
Everywhere was filled with acrid, chocking black smoke and dust.
The originally clear sky was now covered by smoke, blocking out the bright sunlight, leaving only the pitch-black gloom of a pre-storm.
There were no pedestrians on the road, and even the usual stray cats and dogs that roamed the streets were nowhere to be seen.
Throughout the Imperial Capital, aside from occasional faint explosions and the sound of burning flames, there was no other noise.
The entire city had seemingly turned into an empty ghost town in just a few dozen minutes.
Ling Xiaoyou leaned toward the latter guess.
After all, with explosions happening everywhere, hiding at home was obviously not safe either.
And she didn’t believe the Regulatory Division or the Exorcists Association had no measures to prevent something like this.
Maybe everyone had taken refuge at home, or perhaps they had been moved away using some powerful magic or Spirit Tool.
Ling Xiaoyou looked at Bai Shuanglian.
She remembered Bai Shuanglian had just mentioned the Exorcists Association.
But…
She asked,
“Wasn’t the Exorcists Association headquarters attacked?”
She had originally thought that even a place as unimportant as the hotel—which only housed an Inter-region Teleportation Array—had been damaged, so the Exorcists Association would surely not have been spared.
But from Bai Shuanglian’s words, it seemed otherwise.
Could it be that the Exorcists Association headquarters was heavily protected, allowing it to escape harm?
Just as Ling Xiaoyou was speculating about this, Bai Shuanglian shook her head and explained,
“The Exorcists Association was also attacked. And for some reason, all the exorcists in the Association have been wiped out.”
“Huh?”
Ling Xiaoyou was stunned.
She had not expected Bai Shuanglian’s answer to be like that.
But what the hell did “wiped out” mean?
How long had it been since the demons started their attack?
They were already wiped out?
That was way too fast!
As if sensing Ling Xiaoyou’s thoughts, Bai Shuanglian continued,
“I’m not entirely sure either. I’m just speculating based on what Team Leader Lin told me.”
Bai Shuanglian paused, then went on,
“At the time, Team Leader Lin told me that they were short on manpower and could only use your contact method—since you were closest to the hotel—to perform a simple stabilization on it.”
Hearing this, Ling Xiaoyou nodded her little head.
This was roughly in line with her own guess.
“Later, I asked if there was any way to leave the Imperial Capital.”
Bai Shuanglian continued,
“Team Leader Lin said that the teleportation arrays within the Imperial Capital had been sealed off, but fortunately, when the demons tried to block the teleportation between the inside and outside of the Imperial Capital, someone noticed in time and stopped the internal-external seal before it was fully established.”
“So, does that mean we can still leave the Imperial Capital now?”
From the back seat, Su Lihua asked excitedly upon hearing this.
Her sister was still in bad shape, unconscious.
She needed to take her back to a safe place as soon as possible.
As long as they could return to the Underworld, she could notify her father and have him bring an army to slaughter all the demons!
“That’s right.”
Bai Shuanglian also understood Su Lihua’s worries.
She herself was actually very concerned about the well-being of the friends and relatives around her, especially Ling Xiaoyou.
That was why she didn’t say anything about going to support Team Leader Lin and the others.
She had to take responsibility for these friends and relatives who trusted her.
“However, it seems the Exorcists Association was especially targeted by the demons. Although they launched their attack on the Association at the first moment and successfully took it over…”
“Later, the Regulatory Division noticed the situation and began deploying more people to the Association, clearing out the demons. There are still nine core areas that haven’t been cleared yet.”
