Nia didn’t give it the chance.
The moment it turned its head, Nia, who had just stepped back, immediately turned around and advanced again.
The wind blade once more left a gash on the big dog’s head.
The intense pain made it howl in agony again, but this time it didn’t turn back; instead, it continued charging toward the female mage.
With the roar of bursting air, the huge claw swiftly struck at the mage.
“Clang!”
The warrior in front of the mage blocked the blow for her.
The broadsword collided with the claw, the impact pushing the warrior back several steps.
The strike missed, but several fireballs shot out from behind the warrior, immediately launching a counterattack.
Nia seized the opportunity and launched a relentless assault on the big dog.
“Howl!” The two-headed hellhound, caught between attacks from front and back, let out an angry roar. Then, it sensed new flames emerging behind it. It quickly retreated but still couldn’t fully evade.
A fierce explosion erupted in the dense fog.
The two-headed dog staggered, one head blasted into a bloody pulp, lifeless.
There was no time for the other head to catch its breath.
Instinctively, it raised its paw in front.
“Ding.”
El’s crossbow bolt clashed against the claw.
El missed on the first shot, but fired the second without hesitation.
This time, the two-headed hellhound didn’t dodge.
It could only tilt its body slightly, causing the bolt to avoid a fatal hit and strike the shoulder strap instead.
What it didn’t expect was that the bolt didn’t stop in the flesh but pierced straight through, flying out the other side.
In that instant, the two-headed hellhound felt the threat of death.
Ignoring the pain from the shoulder, the remaining head instantly abandoned its attack on the mage.
It turned its head, trying to find the direction from which the bolt flew, but Nia didn’t give it the chance.
At the moment it turned, an enchanted sword technique sliced off one of its legs.
Losing balance, the two-headed hellhound immediately fell to the ground.
Ael took the opportunity to fire another crossbow bolt, the cold arrow growing large in the hellhound’s eyes.
Blood sprayed out, staining the nearby ground red.
The last remaining head stiffly turned, blood bubbling and spilling from its mouth, then toppled sideways.
With the battle over, everyone simultaneously let out a sigh of relief.
The human warrior smiled and grinned at Nia. “Goddess above, thank you both for your generous assistance.”
“Haha, no need to thank us,” El interjected at the right moment. “It’s only right to draw the sword when witnessing injustice.”
“Thank you very much. If not for your wholehearted aid, our entire squad would have been wiped out.”
The female mage confirmed there was no danger to the cleric behind her, then placed a hand on her chest and respectfully bowed to Nia and El. “May I ask your names?”
“I’m El, and she’s Nia.”
“Thank you, Mr. El and Miss Nia, for your assistance. Our squad will forever remember your kindness.”
“No need for such formalities,” El waved his hand. “We don’t even know your names yet.”
“My name is Loti. This warrior is Kate, and this is Aisha, an intern priestess from the church. We were invited to Belron Town to deal with the Dragon Demon, but we didn’t expect to run into this thing on the way.”
“You’re here to deal with the Dragon Demon?”
Upon hearing this, Nia furrowed her brows.
“From what I observed earlier, Miss Loti’s magical level is around Rank 3, right?” Nia spoke bluntly. “At that level, you can’t handle a Dragon Demon.”
Although Dragon Demons are weak to fire, they’re not opponents for Rank 3 mages.
With skills like that, they’re no help to Belron Town.
“Actually, I just passed the Rank 4 test,” Loti said, scratching her head sheepishly. “Because Belron Town offered too little gold, no high-level mages wanted the job, so the guild commissioned us through a letter.”
Hearing this, Nia frowned even deeper.
She hadn’t imagined humans would give up the lives of their kind for gold.
Seeing Nia’s furrowed brows, the female mage added awkwardly, “Miss Nia, don’t worry.
I have experience fighting the Dragon Demon with my teacher before.
Otherwise, I wouldn’t have brought my squad here.”
Since she said that, Nia didn’t press further.
“If you have experience, you should hurry to get there,” Nia pointed at the fallen priestess on the ground. “Taking on a Dragon Demon is no easy task. You’d better prepare well.”
“Thank you for the reminder, and again, thank you both for your generous help.”
“Once we deal with the Dragon Demon, our squad plans to take some leave. You’re welcome to visit Belron Town then—I’ll buy you a drink.”
Bowing deeply, Loti and the warrior helped the priestess to her feet, then shakily made their way toward Belron Town.
Watching the squad’s figures disappear from sight, El looked at Nia with concern.
“Nia, do you think they can handle the Dragon Demon?”
“If what the mage said is true, and with the knights of Belron Town backing them up, it should be no problem.”
“But they almost got wiped out by that dog,” El said. “Didn’t you say before that even dozens of those dogs wouldn’t be a match for the Dragon Demon? And just now, they practically raised a death flag.”
Death… what?
What was that supposed to mean?
Nia ignored the confusing comment and reassured him.
“That’s true, but as you heard, they’re the only team who can help.”
“You have to trust them.”
“Sigh, I was relieved at first, but now this happens,” El sighed. “I wish I could just stay home and still keep an eye on the town’s situation.”
“If you only want to know about the town’s status, I have a way.”
“Oh?”
El’s eyes lit up. “What way?”
“She can use nature magic,” Nia said, glancing around the surrounding trees. “As long as there are small birds or similar animals nearby, she can communicate with them and use them as flying messengers. They can scout and send messages.”
“No way, something like that exists? Why didn’t you say so earlier?”
Nia replied with what El had said to her earlier.
“You never asked.”
