After the trip to the Bardia family’s villa, the whip that pushed her to update had disappeared, and Camilla finally welcomed her long-awaited “ideal” academy life. Her entire state of mind improved more than a little, as if she were a fat cat basking in the sun.
In the Summoning Theory and Practice class, she no longer blatantly slept, but had progressed to a higher tier of “awake slacking.”
With one hand propping up her chin, her ruby-like eyes appeared to be focused intently on the stern Ms. Victoria at the lectern, but in truth, her focus had long since drifted away—her thoughts wandering to some food stall or a soft bed somewhere.
Her other hand, under the desk, absentmindedly poked at the slumped Rimuru on her lap, watching its springy body shift into all sorts of adorable shapes.
Occasionally, she would sneak it a tiny shard of Elemental Crystal, and Rimuru would let out a contented “puchi” sound, transmitting a pure thought through their mental link: 【Master is the best~】
Ms. Victoria was explaining the complex stability maintenance of summoning contracts and Magical Resonance Waveform, her gaze sharp as she scanned the classroom.
When she saw Camilla’s obviously daydreaming look, her brow furrowed as usual.
However, whenever she threw out a question unexpectedly, Camilla would always snap to attention as if triggered by some kind of auto-response, her gaze immediately focused, giving the most concise and accurate answer, then spacing out again, resuming her poking at her slime.
This skillful “precision slacking” left Ms. Victoria with her words—“useless thing”—caught in her throat, unable to go up or down, finally melting into a barely audible snort.
Most of the time, Camilla’s range of activity was fixed to her Dormitory, the scenic corners of the academy, and the library.
Such extreme laziness, coupled with a slime that looked anything but powerful, led some classmates who had once felt curiosity or awe towards her to gradually see her as a weirdo coasting through life on a bit of cleverness.
This suited Camilla just fine. Socializing was still far too troublesome in her eyes—slacking off was much more enjoyable.
But these calm, unchanging days did not last long. In the last class of the morning, Ms. Victoria tapped her pointer on the blackboard, her tone stern and brooking no argument.
“Next month, the academy will hold the first Summoning Practice Assessment of the semester. The assessment will cover basic summon beast command responses, teamwork in actual combat, and adaptability in sudden situations. The location will be the Back Hill B4 Area of the academy. The results will count towards your Final Evaluation.”
A chorus of low groans and murmurs instantly filled the classroom.
Camilla just blinked, slowly scooping Rimuru—who was on the verge of sliding off her knee—back into her arms.
Assessment? Oh, judging by the time, it really was almost that day…
In the original story, this was the first major event the players faced. The villainous group called the Dark Demon Beast Legion would use the opportunity to sneak into the assessment area, attempting to awaken the Sealed Ninth-Rank Demon Beast hidden beneath the academy and unleash a man-made Beast Disaster.
To protect their classmates, the players and their companions would step forward, using Explosive Power-Up to grievously wound the Ninth-Rank Demon Beast and successfully take down the evil summoner behind it.
A very classic, hot-blooded turn of events, but Camilla planned to make a few adjustments.
For various reasons, Ophelia was taking the Magic Swordsman route, and a certain Ancient Creature Egg still sat peacefully in Krowa’s Private Collection, showing no sign of hatching.
Neither of the main characters in this event were present, and Camilla had no intention of stepping in herself. So, she decided to use some tricks to inform the academy of the Dark Demon Beast Legion ahead of time.
She pulled out her Memorandum, made sure there was nothing else to note, then stopped thinking about it and returned to her slacking-off mode.
Ding ling ling ling——
The bell signaling the end of class sounded like music from the heavens.
Camilla immediately snapped out of her daze, stuffed Rimuru into her satchel in one smooth motion, stood up, and headed straight for her target—to race to the Cafeteria and claim the cake!
However, just as she squeezed out the classroom door, a fiery red figure blocked her path.
“Camilla Viellet!”
Shana stood in the center of the hallway, her flame wolf “Blood Wolf” brimming with energy and obviously stronger than before, its gaze blazing.
“This Practice Assessment, I’m officially challenging you! Blood Wolf and I have been training hard for ages, we absolutely won’t lose again!”
Her voice was loud, immediately attracting the attention of nearby students. Many paused in their steps, gathering around, faces full of excitement at the impending spectacle.
Camilla looked at the spirited Shana in front of her, then glanced toward the Cafeteria, her face showing obvious impatience.
“A challenge? No, too troublesome.”
“Why? Are you scared?”
Shana employed the provocation tactic, hands on her hips, tilting her head with a mocking smile.
“Scared? Are you even awake? How many times have you challenged me now?”
Camilla couldn’t help but roll her eyes. In her bag, Rimuru waved its “tentacles” in a frenzy of mockery.
“After your tenth loss to me, I stopped counting… The assessment is already annoying enough, and now you want to fight again? Wouldn’t it be better to nap or try the Cafeteria’s new cake instead?”
“This time is different! Blood Wolf and I have found a way to beat you. Now, let’s settle this once and for all!”
I mean, you don’t really need a duel to figure this out, do you…
Camilla stifled a small yawn, trying to slip past Shana.
“No, pointless. Please move, my cake is calling me.”
Seeing that Camilla wouldn’t budge no matter what, Shana grew both anxious and angry, wanting to say more, but Camilla had already lost her patience.
Out of the corner of her eye, Camilla caught sight of an open window nearby. To the astonishment of Shana and the onlookers, she put one hand on the windowsill, clutched her satchel, and agilely vaulted out, her movements so practiced they drew attention.
“Hey! You—”
Shana rushed to the window, only to see Camilla’s figure falling.
Camilla enjoyed the brief free fall and the breeze wafting through the courtyard, already savoring the thought of cake in her mind.
However, just as she was about to make a stylish landing, a petite figure clutching a tall stack of Alchemical Apparatus was moving cautiously along the path below, head down.
“Crap!”
Camilla’s heart lurched. She tried to twist mid-air, but the distance was too short to adjust in time.
“Ah—!”
“Wah!”
Bang! Crash!
Cries of alarm, thuds, and the crisp sound of shattering apparatus rang out in quick succession.
Camilla felt herself crash onto a body that was soft but slight, and the two of them tumbled onto the grass together.
Rimuru flew from her arms, bounced a few times on the grass, and swayed dizzily.
“Hiss… that hurts…”
Rubbing her bumped arm, Camilla sat up and looked at the unlucky “cushion” beneath her.
It was a petite girl in academy uniform, sitting on the ground. The Alchemical Apparatus she’d been holding were now shattered, their colorful, unknown liquids soaking into the grass and books.
Sky-blue curls were in disarray, with a few blades of grass clinging to her hair. Her originally fair, delicate face was smudged with a bit of dirt. She frowned slightly, clutching her bumped forehead, and a thin sheen of tears covered her pale golden eyes.
“L-Lilian, Your Highness?!”
Camilla recognized her at once—the little Imperial Princess she’d met at the Bardia family’s villa a few days ago.
Oh no, she’d just landed on the famously “timid” princess, and destroyed a pile of what looked like very expensive Alchemical Apparatus?
