Even when Yin Lin blasted herself with her own cannons, she wouldn’t die. She could always deploy a magic shield in time to block the impact.
However, it would be terrifying if she used the Spear of Opening Heaven on herself. She had already been taught that lesson by an Aberrant before. This was the fundamental difference between explosive damage and piercing damage.
After being blasted once, she readjusted her posture, dodging the large-scale Light-Killing Cannon fired from a distance. The Aberrant’s flight speed was incredibly fast, but that wasn’t entirely a good thing for it.
It also had to follow the physical rules of this world—specifically, Classical Mechanics. Such terrifying speed came with equally terrifying inertia; it couldn’t simply brake and pivot to close in on Yin Lin.
After attacking her once, it had to make a massive U-turn, flying a great distance away before it could point itself back in her direction. Yin Lin intentionally flew toward areas that were difficult for it to reach, making it impossible for the creature to turn and face her directly.
How could an Aberrant understand physics?
It mindlessly continued its wide turns, incessantly firing Light-Killing Cannons at her. Because the distance was so great, Yin Lin managed to dodge them without any real danger. In this battle of wits, Yin Lin was the clear victor.
She continued to stall for time to charge her power. The Aberrant grew increasingly restless and enraged. Its speed increased again, which only served to make its turning radius even larger, pushing it further away from Yin Lin.
It wasn’t until 1 minute later that it finally calmed down. Its speed gradually slowed until it came to a complete halt.
Someone was giving it orders.
This was exactly what the Countermeasure Center had mentioned—highly intelligent beings were commanding the Aberrants from behind the scenes. And those beings understood physics.
After stopping, the Aberrant began to accelerate once more, clearly intending to repeat its previous tactic. Yin Lin quickly lowered her altitude and entered the forest, using the trees as cover.
The Aberrant dove from the sky at Mach 2. When it was within 100 meters of Yin Lin, it fired another Light-Killing Cannon. It clearly wasn’t aiming with its eyes; it had locked onto Yin Lin’s mana and knew exactly where she was.
The shot was off by only dozens of centimeters, grazing Yin Lin’s arm and hitting her magic shield before exploding.
She was wounded again, rolling 100 meters through the forest and slamming into a tree before finally coming to a stop.
The Aberrant had its own problems. It couldn’t brake in time, and its body slammed into the ground, carving a trench several thousand meters long.
At Mach 2, the creature acted like a literal bulldozer, clearing a massive path through the forest.
‘I don’t even know what to say. Could humanity really have been pushed to the brink of extinction by such a meathead?’
‘Is this what absolute power looks like? No matter how brilliant a human’s schemes are, can they really not compare to a monster that can destroy a village in a single shot?’
Yin Lin hauled herself up again. Her entire body ached with a miserable pain, and exhaustion was setting in.
She immediately flew toward the Subway Station. Now wasn’t the time for a head-on confrontation; she needed a strategic temporary retreat.
The Aberrant over there certainly hadn’t been killed by the impact. It seemed to be moving again.
Yin Lin didn’t care. She pushed her speed to the absolute limit her physical body could withstand, slamming into the dirt-clogged Subway Station like a cannonball.
Her entrance was so violent it startled the Special Operations Team members inside.
Green Field was still waiting there. Seeing Yin Lin arrive, she immediately joined her in the escape.
Just then, another Light-Killing Cannon blast arrived, hitting the Subway Station’s security gates. The violent explosion blasted a hole 100 meters in diameter into the ground.
The shockwave sent the members of the Special Operations Team tumbling down the stairs. Both Green Field and Yin Lin were also propelled forward by the blast.
The ground shook as soil and stone rained down. The passage, which spanned over 1,000 steps, finally reached its limit and collapsed.
Large sections collapsed in front of and behind them, making it impossible to go deeper. There was also no way to retreat.
They were trapped in a passage only dozens of meters long, able to see one another only by the light of the Special Operations Team’s flashlights.
The soldiers were terrified of the Magical Girls. After all, they had done many questionable things in the past and had even attacked Magical Girls before. If Green Field and Yin Lin decided to settle the score now, the team could be completely wiped out right here.
They acted tough normally, but they knew they were no match for a Magical Girl. The men huddled in the corner, hardly daring to speak.
At that moment, another Light-Killing Cannon struck, deepening the 100-meter-wide crater by another 50%.
It still hadn’t reached the Magical Girls, as they were even deeper underground. However, the Aberrant clearly intended to keep blasting until it hit them. Since the Magical Girls wore their uniforms, the Aberrant could sense their mana. Even if it couldn’t see them, it knew their exact position underground.
It simply continued to fire its Light-Killing Cannon at that spot.
After several consecutive blasts, the explosions were getting closer. They could probably only withstand one more hit.
Yin Lin glanced at the Special Operations Team members hiding in the corner and shook her head with a sigh.
Their lives were now in the hands of fate. Whether they survived was up to them; she couldn’t help them anymore.
Green Field still had a trick up her sleeve. She extended her whip to its maximum length and wove a curved wall of rope in front of them. She also deployed the magic shield she had been preparing, gritting her teeth as she held on.
Finally, another Light-Killing Cannon arrived.
As expected, it exploded right in front of them. The violent blast sent soil and debris flying in every direction. Even with the damage reduction from Green Field’s rope wall, the fierce shockwave threw everyone into the corner.
Yin Lin’s shield held, but Green Field’s shield was covered in cracks. She was barely hanging on.
As for the human Special Operations Team? They lay scattered across the ground, bleeding profusely. A few could still curl their bodies into fetal positions to endure.
The ground above had been blown open. Yin Lin was the first to fly out, knowing that staying hidden was a death sentence.
To her surprise, Green Field also flew out, intending to join the fight.
Yin Lin simply caught her eye and nodded without saying a word. It was a moment of unspoken understanding.
Green Field’s body certainly couldn’t withstand an attack from this elite high-level Aberrant’s Light-Killing Cannon. There was no doubt about that; she would die if she took an unprotected hit.
But she had her own strengths—her flight capability was far superior to Yin Lin’s.
One of the Light-Killing Cannons the Aberrant fired at her was dodged with ease. In contrast, Yin Lin’s dodges were narrow misses that would make anyone break into a cold sweat.
Finding two Magical Girls attempting to attack it at once, the Aberrant seemed confused, unsure of whom to target. Ultimately, it chose Yin Lin as its primary target.
This was a good thing; it would create opportunities for Green Field.
However, Green Field was also having a hard time getting close to the creature.
Calming herself and recalling the flow of the battle so far, she changed her approach and chose a position to prepare an interception.
When the Aberrant realized it couldn’t hit Yin Lin from a distance, it grew impatient again. It began to accelerate, charging toward Yin Lin to repeat its point-blank Light-Killing Cannon strike.
