In a corner of the library, a silver-haired girl sat upright at a table, quietly reading the book in her hands. Beside her lay a notebook with a brown leather cover.
Estelle’s eyes swept across the thick tome, occasionally glancing back at the contents of the notebook as if she were cross-referencing something.
Suddenly, she put down the book, closed the notebook, and clutched it to her chest. Estelle looked five meters away at a striking little girl with crimson features.
A hint of wariness flickered in her beautiful eyes.
Lilith smiled and spoke softly. “Your senses are quite sharp.”
“…”
Estelle met her with silence, then turned her head away to ignore Lilith.
Seeing this, Lilith walked straight over.
She did not sit right next to Estelle, but instead chose a neighboring table, maintaining a distance of nearly three meters between them.
Lilith looked down at her legs, which were just short of reaching the floor, and sighed inwardly. Feeling a bit awkward, she cleared her throat.
“Ahem… I am Lilith.”
“…”
Estelle still refused to answer. She even stood up, preparing to leave.
At that moment, Lilith spoke. “What is your relationship with Enya?”
The foot Estelle was about to lift froze in place.
She turned her head stiffly to look at this mysterious girl. In a voice devoid of emotion, she asked, “You know Enya?”
“I do…”
Lilith looked at Estelle, carefully observing the silver-haired girl. After taking a deep breath, she murmured, “So alike. Too alike.”
The resemblance was even stronger than in the portraits she had drawn; it was as if they were cast from the same mold.
For a moment, Lilith felt as if she were hallucinating, but Estelle was undoubtedly real.
During the brief moment Lilith was lost in memory, Estelle had already walked over to stand before her. There was a significant difference in their heights.
Even though Lilith was sitting on a high stool that was taller than her legs, she still had to look up at Estelle.
Lilith knew that Vivienne had entrusted Estelle to Phil’s care, which was why she was at The Academy. However, she did not know the exact relationship between the four of them: Estelle, Vivienne, Enya, and Phil.
If Estelle was Enya’s daughter, wouldn’t that mean Enya had the child when she was very young?
Lilith knew about Enya being expelled from Tarlonde.
At the time, she had truly believed Enya was dead.
How could someone so brilliant perish in the Northern Mountains? It was only a year later that news of Enya surfaced again.
‘Could it have happened during that time…?’
The more she thought about it, the more terrifying it became.
Lilith did not dare delve deeper into the thought. How could Enya have a child just from one trip to the Northern Mountains? Besides, Enya had only been fifteen or sixteen at the time.
While nobles of that age began discussing marriage and commoner women might even have their second child by then, Lilith refused to believe the White Moonlight of her heart now had a daughter taller than her.
Estelle’s pale gold eyes stared directly into Lilith’s scarlet slit pupils. Such intense eye contact was uncomfortable.
Perhaps that was why others were reluctant to communicate with her; Estelle had a very poor grasp of personal boundaries.
Estelle spoke again. “You know Enya…”
“Yes,” Lilith responded. Realizing a simple answer might lead into an awkward loop, she took the initiative.
“About nine years ago, I met her once. Since then, I have kept track of her and know some things about her.”
“…”
Estelle kept her eyes locked on Lilith.
Lilith broke eye contact and hopped down from the high stool.
She sat on a nearby chair, leaving a spot for Estelle, and then said to the silver-haired girl, “Do you want to hear about it? Sit down first. It is a long story.”
“Okay.”
Estelle nodded and sat in the chair Lilith had just occupied. She still held her notebook tightly.
There were many things in the notebook she did not understand—strange sentences that were truly difficult to grasp.
That was why she had come to the library, trying to use the books here to interpret the contents and learn more about Enya. Estelle could not quite describe her feelings for Enya.
Aside from combat and training, everything else was a blind spot in her knowledge.
Initially, she had viewed Enya only as a goal to surpass, but now she wanted to understand her other mother.
Seeing her sit down, Lilith waited a moment before asking, “Can I ask you something first? What is your relationship with Phil?”
Compared to the distant White Moonlight, the Phil beside her—vibrant as a Red Rose—was the target she needed to reach.
Estelle happened to be connected to both. She was the daughter of the White Moonlight and the foster daughter of the Red Rose.
‘Could there really be such a coincidence?’
Lilith found it hard to believe. She had been too timid to ask Phil directly, but she could be a bit braver in front of Estelle.
“Aunt Phil? She is…”
Estelle gazed into the empty space before her, lost in thought.
After a short while, she turned back to Lilith. “Aunt Phil is… very gentle. I like her.”
She lacked the vocabulary to describe people, but the cold expression on her exquisite face seemed to melt away.
It was clear Estelle truly liked her.
Lilith nodded slightly. She made a guess—perhaps Phil was Enya’s sister? But the two did not look that much alike.
Their features were quite different.
Although both had long silver hair, Phil had blue eyes while Enya had gold eyes. That alone ruled out the possibility of them being the same person.
‘Right, it is impossible. How could the White Moonlight and the Red Rose be the same person?’
‘Haha, hahaha…’
Lilith composed herself and cleared her throat. “I met her nine years ago, on a bright summer day…”
She told Estelle about the assassination attempt nine years ago, how Enya had saved her, and their subsequent reunion in Tarlonde.
She described every detail.
Estelle looked at the girl beside her.
Although Lilith was small and cute, she spoke with the tone and manner of someone who had seen it all, even discussing events from nine years ago.
Did she believe her? Of course she did.
The scene looked entirely out of place.
Many people in the distance watched them, curious about how these two had ended up together.
They were also curious about which class that cute, red-haired little girl belonged to.
