“Does the clothing still fit?”
Looking at Nia, who had finished changing, El appraised her from head to toe and nodded with satisfaction.
This outfit had been obtained earlier along with the clothes he was currently wearing.
At first, he thought he’d never have the chance to use it, but unexpectedly, it came in handy now.
With those white silk stockings and long legs, who wouldn’t be mesmerized?
Good thing he didn’t sell it.
“It fits quite well,” Nia said. “It’s just a bit complicated to put on. Do humans really like wearing such complex clothes?”
“And El, this is way too tight.”
It was as if the clothes had been tailor-made for her.
This gave Nia a chill down her spine, and her gaze toward El grew sharp.
If it weren’t for the fact that she had taken the initiative these past two times, El would already have been branded a pervert.
“Is that your main complaint?”
El smacked his forehead.
He had spent a lot of time sweet-talking her last night, yet he didn’t expect Nia to be completely indifferent about the style of clothing.
“Isn’t that supposed to be the main point?” Nia retorted.
“Isn’t the style the main point?”
After saying that, El realized that elves might think differently from humans, so he quickly asked, “What do elves usually wear?”
Mentioning this made Nia proud.
“We elves aren’t like you humans who focus on elaborate styles or waste a lot of time on such useless things. For elves, clothes are just tools for covering and keeping warm; it doesn’t matter what we wear.”
“Oh.”
El stroked his chin thoughtfully and murmured, “No wonder Meira’s temperament is so elegant while she dresses like a village girl. I thought she was trying to blend in while escaping, but turns out elves just dress like that.”
Nia was infuriated by his words.
“If you dare say one more bad word about Miss Meira, I swear you won’t see tomorrow’s sun! I swear on my honor as a knight.”
“That’s not a bad word at all,” El immediately countered righteously. “Miss Meira’s aura is clearly that of an elegant lady.
No matter how beautiful the jewels or clothes are, they can’t hide her aura.
Simple clothing only makes her more charming.”
“So you do know how to talk like a normal person.”
Although his compliment was exaggerated, it reflected exactly what Nia thought.
Rarely did she find common ground with El in any matter, especially with this annoying guy.
But that didn’t mean he could dodge the question.
“You haven’t answered my question yet.”
“Question? Oh, you mean the clothes.”
“In fact, I have a batch of enchanted clothes—or rather, enchanted battle suits,” El blinked. “What you’re wearing right now and what I have on are both enchanted items.”
“Really?”
Now it was Nia’s turn to be surprised.
She tugged at the black-and-white outfit she was wearing but didn’t feel anything special.
“Yes, otherwise why would it fit so perfectly? You don’t think I could figure it out by touching it for just two nights, right? I’m not that perverted.”
“You!” Nia was both embarrassed and angry. “If you mention that again, don’t expect to see tomorrow’s sun.”
“Alright, alright, no sun for me. Are elves always this brutal? ‘No sun tomorrow’ at the drop of a hat? So scary. Unlike me, I only—”
“Slap.”
Before El could finish, Nia, dressed in the black-and-white maid uniform, had somehow drawn her sword and struck him hard on the shoulder with the flat of the blade.
“You hit me!”
“Your tone just now deserved a smack.”
Nia put away her sword with a cold expression and said faintly, “I really couldn’t help it.”
“That’s too much,” El protested. “Even though you rode me these past two nights, I’m not your horse to be summoned and dismissed at will. You’ve defiled my purity and now you hit me.”
“I’m very upset right now. I’m going to find Miss Meira and have her settle this.”
“Stop right there!” El’s head was about to split from the chaos. “Don’t forget our agreement.”
“Agreement? What agreement?” El narrowed his eyes like a sly fox. “You ran off right after you said it that day. I never agreed, and even if I did, you made a move on me again last night. Oh my, with a filthy person like me, how am I supposed to get married in the future…”
“Don’t take me for a fool.” Nia showed no expression. “No human male cares about that. They take pride in having many wives and children.”
“They’re them, and I’m me. In my homeland, everyone values their chastity highly, regardless of gender. The first time is always reserved for someone you love.”
He spoke so convincingly that Nia had to reconsider the truth of his words.
El had mentioned something about male virtue before.
Maybe their continent really was different from hers.
She hesitated a moment. “Then what do you want?”
“If the first time should be saved for someone you love, it’s simple—you become the person I love.”
“That’s impossible.”
Nia rejected him almost immediately.
“Even if you want to tell Miss Meira, go ahead. It’s not like she’ll agree to you.”
The female knight’s right hand rested on her chest. “My life is already pledged to Miss Meira.”
“You’re so old-fashioned; that won’t do.”
El originally wanted to reason with her, but considering she’d lived with this mindset for many years, three or four words wouldn’t change her.
He’d have to take it slow.
“Then if not lovers, friends at least?”
“That’s possible.”
“Good. The most important thing between friends is honesty. I have some questions I want to ask you.”
“Ask, but I can only promise to try to answer them,” Nia warned. “And I have to remind you—the more you know, the more dangerous your situation might become.”
“No problem. I’m not a fool; I know my limits.” El nodded and asked a question that had been troubling him. “Can I know your identities?”
“That’s not possible. It involves many secrets that can’t be revealed.”
Without getting an answer, El didn’t press further.
He continued with another question.
“Alright, next question. You said before that you came to Danfu to visit family, but that’s probably not true, right?”
“That’s correct. It’s false.” Nia thought for a moment and then chose to reveal the truth. “The reality is, we were being chased and fled here.”
“But don’t worry. Once I’m mostly healed, I’ll take Miss Meira away and won’t bring you any trouble.”
“What if I say I want to leave with you?”
“Leave together?”
Nia looked at El and didn’t understand his meaning right away.
“I’ve been here for three years. The hope of returning home has long since faded. It’s better to travel with you all and experience the customs of this other world,” El explained.
“We’re not going on a picnic,” Nia said seriously. “With your strength, traveling with us might just get you killed quickly.”
El didn’t care about her warning.
“How many times do I have to tell you? I’m strong.”
Nia studied him for a moment, then shook her head.
“I don’t see it.”
“If you disagree, I’ll start pestering Meira every day.”
Seeing him start to throw a tantrum, Nia thought for a moment and chose a compromise.
“Then this way—if you earn my approval before we leave, I’ll agree to your request.”
“That won’t do. The decision is in your hands, so it’s too subjective. If you refuse to admit it, I won’t even have a place to cry.”
“We elves aren’t like you humans. We keep our word and never back out.”
“Well… alright, it’s a deal!”
