“Is that so? I heard her say she hasn’t been feeling well these past few days. Did you come to see her?”
Su Mu nodded bashfully, not daring to meet Lu Shan’s Father’s eyes, inwardly blaming Lu Shan.
‘An adult already, yet still living with her parents.Or maybe it was her dad who came to see her?’
Gone was her earlier arrogance; at this moment, Su Mu nervously twisted a lock of hair around her fingers over and over to ease her awkwardness.
It only made her look all the more obedient—like the kind who would get along with Lu Shan—which immediately softened Lu Shan’s Father’s gaze.
“Come on in then. Little Shan is in her room. That child always sleeps like a log. Sorry to trouble you to come so early, I’ll go wake her up.”
Watching Lu Shan’s Father hurry toward Lu Shan’s room, Su Mu couldn’t help but feel a secret joy.
This was way more effective than coming on her own.
After all, this was a command from the one person Lu Shan couldn’t defy.
No matter how willful she was, she had to bow her head to her own dad.
A short while later, Lu Shan—who had been so unyielding on the phone just now—shuffled out in a gray cat pajama set, looking utterly dejected.
She glanced at Su Mu cautiously, and Su Mu immediately shot her a teasing look.
‘Serves you right!’
“What are you standing there for? Hurry up and pour her a glass of water.”
After shooting Su Mu a resentful glare, Lu Shan unwillingly went to fetch some water.
Su Mu watched gleefully until Lu Shan shoved a cup of bitter, astringent tea at her.
The shriveled green leaves inside looked as if they had absorbed all of Lu Shan’s complaints, listless and lifeless, making Su Mu break out in a cold sweat.
Meanwhile, Lu Shan’s Father just sat silently on the sofa, which only made their conversation even more difficult.
Sensing he might be making things awkward, Lu Shan’s Father lightly coughed twice.
“You two chat. I’m going out to buy groceries. Matters between girls aren’t something I should hear.”
Su Mu and Lu Shan stared at each other, then nodded blankly.
‘Well, that’s fine, but groceries… Does he want me to stay for a meal?’
After Lu Shan’s Father left, all of Lu Shan’s pent-up frustration spilled out.
From being rudely woken up until now, she’d been listless—though honestly, she was just dead tired.
“How did you even find my house? What was so urgent that you had to come right now? I can’t even listen to you in the morning, you know? Why call me at the crack of dawn?!”
Though Lu Shan was soft by nature, her morning temper seemed to fill in all her missing backbone.
“Idiot, you think I wanted to? And morning… It’s already ten o’clock! What do you mean by early? Just how long are you planning to sleep?”
“Sleeping till noon is pretty normal, isn’t it?”
“That’s because you stay up all night! Never mind, that’s not important. I came to see you because of Justice. I tried to tell you on the phone but you hung up on me! Do you know how worried I was?”
Hearing Su Mu’s rather classic line, Lu Shan refused to back down.
“I don’t know a thing. All I know is, someone was planning to barge into my house… If my dad wasn’t here, you totally would’ve! You would, wouldn’t you?!”
“You should be grateful it was me who found you first, not that Justice. Otherwise, would you still be sitting here arguing with me?”
“How could he find me? Besides you, only the Monster Association upper management can reach me, and even they can’t track me… So how did you find me?”
“Idiot, your power hasn’t recovered. I just scanned the area and found you.”
Lu Shan was momentarily stunned before she realized.
“So nobody else can find me, right? I’m not going out as a monster these days, anyway.”
Well, she had a point.
Su Mu scratched her head but quickly regained her seriousness.
“Anyway, just trust me. That Justice is getting ready to capture you for a livestream—he’s going to pin you on an iron plate and grill you, tonight.”
At that, Lu Shan instinctively imagined the scene and her hair stood on end.
Although Su Mu’s intrusion had clouded her mind with morning grouchiness, it didn’t mean she doubted Su Mu.
“For real? Don’t scare me. I-I can’t handle that right now.”
“Why would I scare you for no reason? Why else would I go through all this trouble to find you? Anyway, you’re staying with me today. Don’t go anywhere, it should be safe here. I’ll call someone else over.”
As she spoke, Su Mu sent a message to Ye Wanqing.
“Awake? If you’re up, come over here.”
“What for? If it’s heavy lifting, count me out.”
“It’s nothing. Just asking you to play on your phone somewhere else. I’ll buy you milk tea.”
“No thanks, I’m sick of milk tea lately.”
Su Mu raised an eyebrow.
‘Did this girl drink too much Wangzai or what? Is she drunk on milk?’
“I’m planning to start writing a new fanfic today. If you’re here, maybe you could…”
“Address.”
Seeing Ye Wanqing’s one-eighty shift, Su Mu let out a quiet laugh.
‘Hah, a woman who turns for a pretty face.’
About ten minutes later, Ye Wanqing rang the doorbell, but it was Lu Shan who answered.
The two girls stared at each other—one tall, one short.
Ye Wanqing blinked, stepped back to check the doorplate, pulled out her phone to double-check, and, once sure she wasn’t mistaken, peered inside and soon spotted Su Mu.
But she didn’t enter right away; instead, she first sized up Lu Shan with a critical eye, her gaze lingering especially on Lu Shan’s lovely cat-like face.
For some reason, though she didn’t know this petite black-haired girl, Ye Wanqing instantly felt a trace of dislike toward her.
Lu Shan felt it too; neither of them realized they’d once clashed after transforming.
A moment later, Ye Wanqing narrowed her eyes and texted Su Mu.
“Vixen?”
“Vixen, your head! There’s nothing like that going on, and you don’t need to worry about it!”
Su Mu’s cheeks flushed slightly, ‘Did this homebody ever think of anything serious?’
“We’re roommates, so of course I should care about these things!”
Could she not say it so ambiguously?
If anyone should worry, it should be Luo Jialan.
This girl’s the real vixen, isn’t she?
Right?
Su Mu’s inner monologue faded away. She shook her head.
‘No, I can’t think like that.’
Otherwise, someone might really sneak in when she least expects it.
But before Su Mu could reply, Lu Shan and Ye Wanqing had already started bickering.
Though their voices were low, Su Mu’s keen senses caught a few snatches.
“Su Mu… my… A cup of milk tea, leave her!”
“What, is she your girlfriend or something? Who gets bribed with milk tea these days?!”
‘What? What? Are you kidding me?’
“You two, come over here! What are you muttering about over there?”
