“Good Wu 1”
With the sweet cry of the beautiful girl, a thick white bolt of lightning fell from the sky above and struck the training dummy hard, splitting the poor thing clean in half, charred on the outside and half-cooked inside.
It looked quite powerful, but Xu Chuyao always felt that as a Gold-level reward, the might of Thunder Shock shouldnโt be only at this level. Maybe the true power hadnโt been fully unleashed yet.
Then again, after struggling for several months with little progress, she might as well just use her reward directly, instead of overthinking it. She decided to give up on her doubts and kept herself busy with some more practice.
“Merchant Ding 1”
In the distance, at the entrance of the training ground, Principal Lรผ watched his precious student working hard and said with delight, “Look, this is what a genius is, never wasting a single moment to improve herself.”
“Then please ask Miss Xu to stop and accept questioning and inspection.”
The envoy from England tried to step forward, but two teachers, one on each side, moved in to block his path, refusing to let him enter the training ground.
“What are you doing? Are you trying to defy the orders of Salier Lord?!”
“Xu Chuyao is currently in a critical period of seclusion, creating a skill requires complete concentration,” the teacher on the left said calmly, “Now is exactly when she is searching for inspiration, do not disturb her.”
The teacher on the right didnโt say a word but gave a polite smile as if to say, “Getting angry is useless; youโre not going in, and at best Iโll just give you a smile for your trouble.”
He, too, was sent here by Principal Lรผ. After all, the visitor was an envoy, not Monrose himself. If a minor conflict happened like this, Principal Lรผ would feel embarrassed to escalate things.
With two Third-Tier peak class teachers blocking his way, the envoy found himself at an impassable mountain. In his frustration, he could only invoke Monroseโs name again.
“Your words, Envoy, have some truth,” Principal Lรผ said leisurely, “But according to the rules, only when both the direct superior and the top superior are absent do we follow orders from other departments. Xu Chuyao is an official of the Security Department and long-term directly under Minister Long. She does not need to accept orders from other departments, so the so-called โarrest orderโ doesnโt exist.”
The envoy was left speechless, his anger visibly rising, but when he finally spoke again, his forcefulness had faded, “Perhaps, but Salier Lord has ordered an investigation. As the person involved, Xu Chuyao has an obligation to cooperate with the inquiryโฆ”
“You said it yourself, itโs an obligation, but as you can see, sheโs busy now,” Principal Lรผ replied with a friendly smile, “How about this, let me discuss it with her later. Once sheโs done in a few days, you can come back and ask again, how about it?”
The envoy was dissatisfied, but there was nothing he could say.
Looking at the teacher on his left with a cold face, then at the one on the right who was calm and unmoved, no matter how much dissatisfaction he felt, he could only swallow it for now.
“Please notify me as soon as you can spare her time. Iโll be staying nearby for the next few days.”
It was the same gatekeeper as before. Principal Lรผ had him escort the guest out. The envoy had made his entrance in a grand fashion, and now he was politely sent away.
After they left, Xu Chuyao stopped pretending to be diligently training, grabbed a towel, wiped the sweat from her brow, and walked off the training field.
“Finally gone. I knew someone would come, but I didnโt expect it to be so soon.”
Those old foxes really canโt hold back their curiosity.
Principal Lรผ didnโt answer at once. He glanced at her, then at the direction the envoy had left, feeling a tinge of suspicion, “How did Monrose find out about your matter so quickly? Didnโt you say your experiment was very secretive each time, and always well hidden?”
“It was hidden well, but people from the Supreme Society saw it themselves. Wang Cha and I used a Soulstone to escape from the Academyโs pursuit,” Xu Chuyao shrugged her delicate shoulders. “Once the Supreme Society knows, of course Monrose would know too.”
“Donโt joke like that. Are you saying Monrose is part of the Supreme Society?”
Principal Lรผ chuckled, until he saw that Xu Chuyaoโs face was completely serious, and realized she actually meant it.
“Youโฆ do you have proof?”
“No definite proof, but Iโm almost certain.”
“Donโt make wild claims without evidence,” Principal Lรผ advised kindly, “especially in front of outsiders.”
It wasnโt that he didnโt believe in his precious student, but he was worried Xu Chuyao might get herself in trouble by speaking recklessly, especially if someone like todayโs envoy overheard.
“I know, I know.”
Xu Chuyao yawned, threw her towel aside, and headed for the dormitory.
“Are you going to rest?”
“Of course, Iโm going back to sleep!”
Otherwise, what, did you really think I was going to work hard at cultivation? Whatโs the use of cultivating, itโs better to rest and get my reward.
Tomorrow is the day Shen Ning comes to my room for the invitation. Iโd better go back and get a good nightโs sleep, stay sharp and energetic. Thatโs the real way to get stronger.
“Starting now!”
Under the gaze of three shadows, the girl lightly tapped on the System, her eyes fixed on the countdown on the interface, ticking down from ten.
“Itโs starting, itโs starting!” the repressed shadow said excitedly, “Quick, look, whatโs the task this time!”
(Milestone Mission: You have completed all four-star missions. Reward: 2 Achievement Points and unlocking the next level.)
(Two-star Milestone Mission: First Time as the Grinding Queen
Mission Description: When your hands are quick and you have some experience, when even the wind pauses for you, when all the complex tricks are done and the path is clear, simplicity reigns, and only then do you truly grasp the power of grinding.
Mission Requirement: Do not rely on any other methods; complete the entire process as a true purist grinder.)
Shen Ningโs eyes widened, her mouth hung open, and after a long while she let out a faint groan.
“Who am I supposed to ask?”
She didnโt know who she was talking to, maybe she was asking the System, maybe the shadow, or maybe herself.
Grinding Queen or whatever, sheโd never studied this before. What was she supposed to do?
“Experience it. Just watch me, Iโll teach you, donโt worry,” the repressed shadow said, “Because any girl, as long as you stick with it, can master this move.”
That sounded a little suspicious.
“If all else fails, just find a video. When the time comes, put your phone on the pillow and learn by watching and practicing at the same time!”
The repressed shadow really lived up to its reputation, coming up with all sorts of strange ideas. And as for videos, Shen Ning had some on her phone, downloaded into little folders, so resources werenโt an issue.
But whether it was her or the three shadows, they all understood, the real difficulty of this mission wasnโt about whether she could grind or not, but rather about Xu Chuyao.
“No external assistance,” the ruined shadow said, “which means you canโt use any elemental powers.”
So how am I supposed to handle Xu Chuyaoโs lightning then?
“Try negotiation. Exchange benefits,” the repressed shadow said bluntly. “Ask her what she wants or what she wants to do, negotiate.”
“Talking is a must, but I donโt think you need to be so clear-cut,” the ruined shadow countered. “Youโre lovers; you should talk things out and understand each other.”
“Yeah, right. You think you can talk heart-to-heart with Chuyao? Sheโll just laugh at you!”
Shen Ning picked up a snow cake, ate a few bites to replenish her brain sugar, then thought seriously for a moment.
What the repressed shadow said made sense, and the ruined shadow also had a point. The problem was, she didnโt have many options, either brave the risk of being electrocuted and go straight at it, or risk negotiating with her girlfriend and dealing with her laughter and teasing.
Either way, it was like being caught between a rock and a hard place. After careful thought, the girl came to a conclusion.
“Letโs go with negotiation.”
Mainly because, according to the books, being electrocuted too much can cause lasting physical problems. If something happened, it wouldnโt just be a lifetime of Xu Chuyaoโs ridicule; she herself would never be able to live it down.
“Glad youโve figured it out,” the repressed shadow said encouragingly. “Let me tell you, negotiation also requires skill. Tomorrow, you do this, then thatโฆ”
At the same time, in another dormitory.
“Er Xiao, you donโt understand. Thereโs a saying: โIf you fall behind, you get beaten up. If you donโt fight, you die.โ” Xu Chuyao touched her little face, her eyes resolute. “If I donโt keep pushing forward, the next time someone comes I still wonโt be able to beat them, and Iโll be trampled to death, used up until I die. I can die in battle, but I wonโt let myself be toyed with like a ragdoll.”
“No, no, no, I get it, I do!” Mi Xiaolu wiped the black line of sweat from her forehead, “But what I donโt get is, what does buying all these sugary things and livestreaming for Shen Ning have to do with it?”
Isnโt it that you canโt beat the people from the Supreme Society? If you canโt beat them, shouldnโt you be cultivating your Spirit Power or researching skills? Why put your efforts into your girlfriend? Is this so-called fighting to the death actually aboutโฆthe bed?
Xu Chuyao nodded with a profound look and sighed deeply, “Thatโs why I said, Little Lei, you just donโt understand. If you did, you wouldnโt be asking.”
She started unpacking todayโs parcels one by one, putting the items on the table and asking Mi Xiaolu to help her.
“Fine, letโs take it step by step. Even if you insist on helping out classmate Shen Ning, what about this timeโฆ Didnโt you already do this once before?”
Mi Xiaolu didnโt get it. When her roommate tried this trick last time, sheโd been right there watching.
Xu Chuyao laughed again, looking like an enlightened monk.
“Little Xia, youโve forgotten. I already explained this to you before. Let me ask you, I stole her charger from Shen Ningโs room once before, so why did I do it again later?”
Mi Xiaolu was stunned for a moment, memories flooding back. “Because you said it makes Shen Ning feel like youโre treating her like a fool.”
