A week slipped by quietly.
For Camilla, the courses at Mystra Magic Academy were less about learning and more about finding a new place to catch up on sleep.
Several days of pulling all-nighters to write, combined with her naturally drowsy constitution, had made the classroom her ideal place to rest.
During Summoning Theory and Practice class, Madam Victoria’s stern voice echoed through the lecture hall as she explained the maintenance of summoning contract stability.
In the corner of the classroom, Camilla was sound asleep, her head resting on her soft satchel, breathing evenly and quietly.
The zipper of her satchel was open just a crack, and a blue slime—Rimuru—poked out half of its bouncy body. The tips of its two tiny “tentacles” were surprisingly holding a miniature feather pen, and on a mini sheepskin parchment… it was doodling aimless circles?
After eating a Pure Blood Crystal, Rimuru’s intelligence had shot up; if before she’d had the mind of a three-year-old, now she had at least the smarts of a middle schooler. Her water-blue body always seemed to radiate an aura of “wisdom.”
But having a summoned beast clearly wasn’t an excuse for a summoner to slack off.
At first, Madam Victoria would fix her with icy glares, or rap her desk with a pointer to try and wake her, but after a few times, she realized that no matter how tricky the theory questions she asked, that slime called Rimuru could always “shake awake” its master through their spiritual link, and even if Camilla was still groggy, she could, by some almost instinctive intuition, deliver shockingly precise answers. In pop quizzes and basic resonance exercises, she always managed to get near-perfect marks while expending the bare minimum effort.
In all her years of teaching, Madam Victoria had seen prodigies and slackers, but never a student who was so extremely lazy yet left no real faults to pick on.
“Useless thing!”—her signature phrase—she couldn’t quite bring herself to say to Camilla, not with her grades as they were. But such a “slack” attitude seriously violated her strict teaching philosophy.
The other students looked on with envy. Even Shana had, more than once, been scolded with similar words by the stern Madam Victoria, but only Camilla was always the “useful one.”
Why on earth is she this strong even though she sleeps through every class? Damn that talented freak!
Unconsciously, Camilla was isolated. Almost no one in class talked to her—partly out of jealousy, and partly because Camilla spent most of her time asleep anyway.
Not that Camilla minded. She’d already done school in her previous life, and had no intention of repeating it in this one. She was only here because her sister tasked her to be. If she had the chance, she’d rather just cut her own throat… and drop out.
She had no desire to communicate with these classmates either. She could see right through most of their futures; later in the story, when the Black Tide arrived, they were just a bunch of “fill-in-the-blanks,” utterly incomparable to the so-called “Protagonist.”
Finally, after Camilla snored away her fifth straight day in class, Madam Victoria’s patience snapped.
She didn’t scold Camilla directly, but after class, she used the Communication Magic Array in the academy to contact another big name—Ophelia Virelit.
“…That’s the situation, Miss Virelit. Camilla’s talent may be considerable, but such slackness isn’t sustainable. I hope you, as family, can talk with her.”
Madam Victoria did her best to keep her tone calm.
Ophelia listened, her ice-blue eyes showing little surprise, and replied serenely.
“I understand, Madam Victoria. Thank you for telling me. I’ll take care of this.”
On a weekend morning, as Camilla, her hair a tangled mess and her dark circles deeper than a panda’s, sleepwalked to open the dormitory door to go wash up, she suddenly found her sister standing at the door, her expression severe.
“Sis? What are you doing here?”
Camilla instantly woke up a good deal, a bad feeling rising in her chest.
Ophelia entered the room, her gaze sweeping over the mountain of draft paper and inkwells on the desk, then taking in the faint blue-black under Camilla’s eyes that she couldn’t quite hide, and cut straight to the point.
“Camilla, Madam Victoria reported to me that you’ve been chronically sleep-deprived in class, and even… letting Rimuru attend lectures for you?”
Camilla’s heart skipped a beat, her face immediately breaking into a fawning grin.
“Well… Sis, let me explain, I just… I’ve been researching some really deep magical theories lately and got a bit too caught up at night, so during the day I’m a little…”
“If you were the old you, I’d believe it. But not now.”
Ophelia cut her off, her tone resolute.
“Is it because of that bastard from Baldia Manor?”
Camilla’s smile froze on her face.
Ophelia walked to the desk. With one hand, she easily pinned down Camilla, who was screaming “Don’t look there!”, and with the other, picked up a page of manuscript covered in writing—the latest chapter of “About My Harem-Building and World-Saving Misadventures at the Magic Academy.”
“You’re writing your novel again? But I remember this book should have ended already… Hmm, this plotline—ah, that bastard is forcing you to change the ending, huh.”
Ophelia’s voice was calm, yet carried a piercing sharpness.
“She’s forcing you to write, and demanding an update schedule you can’t handle, right?”
Camilla deflated like a pricked balloon, dropping her head and feebly admitting,
“…Yes. She said if she didn’t see a Happy End, she’d throw me into a pool of razor blades… and even threatened to expose my identity as an author…”
“Hmph…”
A glint of cold light flashed in Ophelia’s eyes, and the temperature in the room seemed to drop by several degrees.
That woman who’d kidnapped her sister before, and even tried to use a whip? She dared to harass Camilla again, even impacting her studies and health!
“Come with me.”
Ophelia grabbed Camilla’s wrist, her tone brooking no argument.
“W-Where to?”
Camilla instinctively tried to pull away. As someone deeply familiar with her sister, she instantly recognized this as Ophelia’s “I’m about to kill someone” tone.
“Baldia Manor.”
Ophelia said coldly.
“I’m going to ‘talk’ to her and settle this once and for all.”
Camilla instinctively wanted to refuse—go find that young heiress? Wouldn’t that be walking right into the lion’s den? But just as she was about to speak, her eyes spun, and a brilliant idea popped into her mind.
That’s right! Why didn’t I think of this sooner! Camilla’s mind suddenly cleared. With her sister’s strength and personality, she could totally suppress Elina and stop her from pushing her so hard! Isn’t this the perfect opportunity to escape my predicament?
Moreover… an even bolder, more “interesting” idea was born.
In the game, Elina was one of Sis’s romanceable targets. Though the plot had gone off the rails, the fundamental setup was still there! If she pushed this “Iceberg” of a sister in front of Elina… who knows what kind of unexpected sparks might fly? Not only would her own trouble be solved, but she’d also set up a chance for her sister’s romance—truly killing two birds with one stone!
At this thought, Camilla’s look of reluctance instantly turned into determination and anticipation. She seized Ophelia’s arm in return and nodded vigorously.
“All right! Sis, let’s go find her! It’s time to settle this once and for all! I can’t let her bully me any longer!”
It looked as though Camilla’s eyes were glinting red.
