Greenfield originally intended to go easy, not planning to finish the fight so quickly.
She hoped the Magical Girl would put up a bit more of a struggle—only then would she feel that urge to whip someone.
Even after her Burst, Scarlet Wash still had some fighting power. With one hand, she grabbed the whip coiled around her waist and yanked hard, pulling Greenfield straight over.
A person.
She quickly entered flight mode, managing to steady herself midair.
There were plenty of Magical Girls stronger than Scarlet Wash. In the past, some had grabbed Greenfield’s whip and yanked her over.
Back then, Greenfield took a punch to the face and immediately shut down. When she came to ten minutes later, she was lying by the roadside like a stray dog.
Ever since, she’d dedicated herself to countering strong girls, mastering a few tricks.
Just now, when Scarlet Wash pulled the whip, Greenfield regained her balance before even hitting the ground.
She summed up her experience dealing with strong girls: Don’t let them get close, and don’t let yourself get caught in a lock.
When Silverbell used lock attacks, it was like playing house with a kid—adorably harmless. But if she played like that with Scarlet Wash, she might end up with broken arms and legs.
So, never fight Scarlet Wash up close if you can avoid it.
Besides that, you had to wear down Scarlet Wash’s stamina—never challenge her at her strongest.
Greenfield also had her own selfish reasons; she couldn’t bear to end the fight too soon, so she continued to play along.
Scarlet Wash clamped the staff under her arm, gripped the whip with both hands, and yanked again, pulling Greenfield, who was flying in midair, back toward her.
Greenfield started grappling, too. With nothing in the air to push off of, she could only rely on the thrust produced by flight to counter—the same as horsepower, really.
After her Burst, Scarlet Wash held a slight advantage.
Suddenly, she freed one hand, grabbed the staff with the other, and stabbed it hard into the ground.
Then, with one hand gripping the whip and looping it deliberately around her wrist, the other hand held onto the staff embedded in the ground, and she began to spin, whipping Greenfield around like a centrifuge.
At first, Greenfield could resist; she knew she couldn’t let herself be spun.
Gradually, she couldn’t hold out. The spinning speed increased until it surpassed 150 kilometers per hour.
The ground beneath them was gouged into a wider and deeper hole by Scarlet Wash’s swinging. Just as she was about to fling Greenfield away, Greenfield lost her grip first, her weapon flying from her hand as she was thrown.
Greenfield tumbled for over a hundred meters across the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust along the way.
With her magic shield active, she wasn’t really hurt.
If she hadn’t had the magic shield up, she’d have gotten plenty of scrapes, and probably broken a few ribs.
Activating the magic shield for Scarlet Wash—Scarlet Wash should consider herself honored.
So thought Greenfield, as she sprang into the air and used the same trick she’d used against Silverbell—remotely controlling the whip, which tightened like a snake and coiled around Scarlet Wash.
It was the first time Scarlet Wash had seen this move, so she was caught off guard.
She knew Greenfield could control the whip—that was the Magical Girl’s magic wand, after all. A bit of remote control was nothing special. But she never expected Greenfield’s control over her wand had reached such a masterful level.
Just now, she’d even let the rope coil around her hand on purpose, but this time, she was subdued in an instant and couldn’t break free.
She struggled with all her strength, but even in Burst-enhanced mode, she couldn’t move the whip at all.
This was the invincible magic wand! It was made from a mysterious material, the strongest in the universe, with rule-level durability. No human strength could destroy it.
From this angle, Greenfield’s weapon was downright shameless.
With the wand’s near-indestructibility, she could challenge anyone, regardless of class.
Scarlet Wash, of course, was not willing to accept this. But when she thought of what was coming next, her face instantly flushed red.
She tried to run away with her still-mobile legs, but after a few steps, her legs were tied up, and she collapsed like a stick.
Greenfield approached with a bright smile, patting her down.
She found Scarlet Wash’s phone, unlocked it with her fingerprint, and looked over her contacts.
She glanced over Silverbell’s profile picture, and her heart rate shot up to 180, so she quickly looked away and tapped on Golden Luan’s avatar instead. She started a chat, her heart rate slowly calming.
Golden Luan looked at her phone. At her feet lay the severed body of a mid-level aberrant demon. In the end, she hadn’t been able to hold back—she’d used instant movement to finish off the demon, as the situation was too dangerous to delay.
She took off.
Taking to the air, she checked her phone while flying away.
Scarlet Wash: [I found an aberrant demon here. Come help me, I can’t handle it alone. (Location info)]
Uh, the grammar felt a bit strange, but she didn’t think much of it and started flying toward the location.
The Failure Squad’s helicopter was trailing behind her, but they were still out of attack range and couldn’t fire yet.
“Are you deliberately hindering our operation?” a member of the Failure Squad accused the pilot.
They’d finally realized—the pilot had deliberately slowed down, which is why they’d arrived so late, and had let Golden Luan escape.
There was nothing to be done now; all they could do was watch Golden Luan get away.
A member of the Failure Squad fired from the helicopter. The photon rifle rounds streaked past Golden Luan, dangerously close, but missing her.
After all, she was just a girl, nearly an adult in build. Even in a video game, hitting a female character model was tricky because of the small hitbox—it was hard to see with the naked eye, let alone attack Golden Luan hundreds of meters away in the real world.
Golden Luan escaped successfully, flying quickly toward the outskirts of the city.
Her intelligence was only average; at this moment, she didn’t think too much about why the Special Task Force and Failure Squad had gone out of the city to attack her.
Scarlet Wash had said there was an aberrant demon in the suburbs, and that she was locked in a fierce battle with it.
So why weren’t the Special Task Force and Failure Squad fighting the demon, but instead chasing Golden Luan out of the city?
Golden Luan assumed the Eastern Alliance hadn’t found the demon in the outskirts yet, and didn’t realize Scarlet Wash’s message was fake.
When she reached the destination, a sparse grove, she still didn’t suspect it was a trap.
She sensed no aberrant demon from the air, but there was a magical source belonging to Scarlet Wash.
She checked Scarlet Wash’s message—there was a new one, saying she’d defeated the demon in the grove below, but the demon was acting strange, so Golden Luan should come down and take a look.
So, Golden Luan landed and entered the grove.
Even now, she didn’t realize it was a trap, and walked toward Scarlet Wash’s location.
There was a whimpering sound. Stepping over an obstacle, she saw Scarlet Wash, indeed, in handcuffs and caught.
Crap! It’s a trap!
Almost at the same moment, Golden Luan felt her ankles tighten. Her legs were bound, and her whole body was hoisted upside down.
She reacted quickly, slicing at the rope with her blade—the sound was crisp, but she couldn’t cut it.
Looking closer—wasn’t that Greenfield’s familiar whip?
She immediately entered flight mode, trying to escape from the upside-down position.
Greenfield wasn’t in the mood to play anymore. After just one glance at Silverbell’s profile picture, she’d reached a boiling, frenzied state. The whip coiled around Golden Luan’s hands and body, subduing her instantly, and no matter how she struggled, she couldn’t break free.
A buzzing vibration sounded.
Song Wuli sneezed and picked up her silver phone to take a look.
Golden Luan: [There’s news about that badge. It’s inconvenient to say here. Come meet me—let’s talk face to face. (Location info)]
