“No problem. Providing support uses far less mana than casting the Clearing Descent Spell.”
Samimi expressed her gratitude, “Thank you for your assistance. Thanks to both of you archers, your marksmanship is truly outstanding.”
The Divine Young Lady Archer didn’t respond to her thanks.
Samimi felt that was for the best.
There was no emotional connection, nor any sympathy between them; this way, no one would act on impulse.
They each focused on holding their ground, pretending not to know each other. They agreed to enjoy the moment first and deal with other matters later.
During the second half of the night, there was no large-scale zombie horde assault, but the Double Mountain Ghost’s bursts of attacks showed no sign of letting up. From the eerie forest, various sizes of corpses would emerge at irregular intervals.
These wandering corpses didn’t pose much of a threat to the team’s defenses, but they drained the team’s spirits, forcing everyone to remain constantly alert and cautious, making rest impossible.
Of course, the most terrifying were those Bamboo Rod Zombies that accompanied them.
“Here!” The sound of wind howling as an arrow pierced the head of a Bamboo Rod Zombie.
However, the mysterious Divine Young Lady Archer, gifted with heightened perception, could clearly see the lurking Bamboo Rod Zombies, and she guarded the city gate, taking precise shots to eliminate them.
Aside from her, Fatty Knight Qiqi and the full-grown elf artillery operator Dada also stood atop the City Domain. The former was responsible for fire support, while the latter handled ranged attacks. Their teamwork helped cover each other’s weaknesses.
No one understood why the great elf archer occasionally stepped on Fatty Knight Qiqi’s feet.
There was a feeling that something untold existed between them.
Dawn came…
After all, the team managed to get through the second night.
Everyone was a bit physically and mentally exhausted, but the group’s composure remained intact, and no one was injured.
The Black Sun rose slowly, bringing light to the alternate space, and everyone was finally able to take turns resting.
But compared to their own rest, everyone was more concerned about the condition of the Demon-Hunting Nun, hoping she could get proper rest.
Samimi was escorted by Niubao and Captain Frolro to a small pavilion beside the city gate to rest.
“As expected, the morning has brought relief.” Upon entering the room, Samimi instantly regained her spirit, no longer looking as fragile as she did outside.
“Miss Discipline Nun, why do you pretend to be completely drained of mana?” Captain Frolro asked suspiciously.
What she didn’t know was that she had been deceived; it was Qiqi who had revealed the truth.
It turned out that the act was staged by Samimi and Qiqi. After all, they were the only two mages on the team, and none of the others knew how much mana they truly had left.
Samimi explained that by pretending to be out of mana, no one could verify the truth, so no one would suspect anything, because there was simply no reason to.
“To deceive the enemy, you must first deceive your own,” Samimi said as she lay back, smiling faintly.
It wasn’t entirely a lie. She genuinely felt exhausted, but the act was meant to mislead their enemies, making them underestimate her mana reserves.
“The Blood Clan hasn’t launched a full-scale attack yet; they’re observing and gathering intelligence. Once they realize how resilient our team is and that a single zombie horde can’t break us, they’ll hold back,” Samimi continued, “The third night will be when the Purebloods strike for real — that’s when the true Race War begins.”
“I understand. I’ll share this intelligence with everyone so they can strengthen their defenses. Now, you can rest,” Captain Frolro said, rising.
“Wait, don’t tell the others. If the secret leaks, it won’t work,” Samimi stopped her.
“Keeping information from the team? That sounds risky,” Captain Frolro expressed doubt.
“The Double Mountain Ghost is a highly cunning and annoying humanoid monster,” Samimi explained earnestly, “I have to appear emotionless when facing these unnatural beings. Only by doing so can I deceive them. Just like last time, when we faced that Pureblood, I had to lie twice as hard to keep everyone safe. I intend to bring everyone back home; no one can die.”
“I’ll trust you. Rest well.” Captain Frolro was visibly moved and left the room.
As soon as Samimi finished speaking, she immediately fell asleep.
Niubao, holding the Enchanted Golden Sword, stood guard by Samimi’s side, ensuring she could rest peacefully. This was why Samimi could sleep so soundly, the security Niubao provided was more than enough.
Moreover, Niubao’s resilience was like a rock. Using magic to dispel zombie hordes, it had slain hundreds over the past two days without showing any signs of weariness.
On the other hand, the Director General was visibly frightened upon seeing the zombie hordes, as was expected of an inexperienced commander.
But apart from the Director General, everyone else in the team were professionals, so there was little need to worry.
The Adjudication Knights and the Kingdom Knights regularly cleared out zombies and verified identities to ensure no Purebloods infiltrated the manor.
Meanwhile, the Crimson Thorn Magic faction had dispatched two disciples who stayed in the main hall of the Little Tavern specifically to protect the resting Demon-Hunting Nun.
The importance of the Demon-Hunting Nun was unquestionable. No one in the team could replace her; it was vital that nothing happened to her.
After spending the morning resting, Samimi woke punctually at noon, unable to sleep any longer.
She left the small room with Niubao and headed to the tavern’s main hall, where the Kingdom Knights had just finished their shift change and were enjoying a few drinks with the peach soldier Xiao Tang.
Seeing Samimi appear, they immediately became nervous and hid their small flasks. Drinking during wartime was strictly forbidden, as being intoxicated on the battlefield could cost lives.
“Everyone, don’t worry so much. A little drink won’t cause any harm,” Samimi said calmly, not scolding them and quietly taking her leave from the tavern.
“Yes, yes, yes! I won’t drink too much, just a little,” the elite Kingdom Knights quickly promised, relieved that she wasn’t angry.
Because the Discipline Nun’s primary job was to strictly enforce order in the villages and towns. Not all nuns could become pastors; those without healing abilities spent their time enforcing rules: prohibiting alcohol, gambling, and lechery to maintain public order.
So, whenever they appeared, they were feared and disliked.
They assumed that the Demon-Hunting Nun would be furious and fiery, but to their surprise, she was very approachable.
Still, the elite Kingdom Knights didn’t drink much—just a few sips—before returning to their duties, as the battle was far from over.
“Miss Discipline Nun, is it alright for them to be drinking?” A passerby archer cautiously asked Samimi and Niubao.
“…”
Samimi ignored the question with a cool, indifferent expression but subtly sized up the passerby.
They were one of the two disciple adventurers sent by the Crimson Thorn Magic faction—one male, one female—who had been completely captivated by Samimi’s charm and had since faded into the background.
This female archer was a standard passerby NPC, not because she was unattractive—she was decent-looking—but she lacked the charisma and unique aura of a main character.
