Get away, why are you guys following me?!
What was happening now was even more shocking to Clara than the scenes sheโd witnessed at the slaughterhouse.
While she was sneaking away (though in reality, it was quite brazen), several Moon Rabbits who didnโt want to die actually followed her.
And what was even worseโฆ
When it came to escaping, Clara wasnโt as fast as they were.
After all, sheโd only just become a Moon Rabbit, and still hadnโt gotten used to this little body. When moving at high speed, she could even feel the โnetwork lagโ Nyx had mentioned, and the performance of her small combat form was greatly reduced, actually even worse than a genuine Moon Rabbit.
โJii!!โ
With so many Moon Rabbits escaping, there was no way the slaughterhouseโs rabbit soldiers wouldnโt reactโthey, of course, gave chase.
In an instant, chaos erupted throughout the entire rabbit burrow.
[Perhaps, under your influence, the individual thinking of some Moon Rabbits has begun to override the collective consciousness.]
Clara could only click her tongue at Nyxโs explanation.
Huh? This is my fault now?
Was it because I gave these rabbits the โforbidden fruitโ of wisdom!?
As the leader, Clara found herself being overtaken one after another, and before she knew it, she had become the last one in this fleeing groupโon the verge of being caught by the rabbit soldiers behind her.
[Those soldiers are biggerโgo for the narrower tunnels.]
Recalling what it was like when she squeezed into the rabbit burrow, she remembered that the closer to the outside, the narrower the tunnels became.
These soldiers wouldnโt be able to give chase for long; just a little further ahead, and theyโd have to stoop to continue, which would surely slow them down considerably.
Slow down, my foot!
These guys could actually crawl on all fours and run even faster?! How was that possible?!
Just as Clara was about to have her rabbit tail grabbed by one of the soldiers behind her, the Moon Rabbit ahead of her suddenly spun around and delivered a flying kick straight to the soldierโs head.
โAh-jii!โ
The rabbit soldier was knocked backward, freeing Clara from danger.
Oh! Thanks a lot, buddy!
Clara thanked the rabbit inwardly, and followed these few rabbits as they dove into a nearby alley.
Clara wasnโt even sure if she should thank this loyal rabbit, but even if she wanted to, there was no way to express itโshe could only squeak twice and hope the other would understandโฆ
โChiu! Chiu!โ
Because Clara was the first to escape, the group of rabbits surrounded her, as if waiting for her next commandโฆ
[They see you as the leader now.]
However, Clara had no idea what to do next.
To her, these Moon Rabbits were no different from the other โLunar Cockroaches.โ
She couldnโt possibly treat them as โpet cockroachesโ just because they followed her, right?
And even if she brought them back, it wouldnโt workโthey were a potential threat to humans. Just as Fran had said before, these creatures simply couldnโt be contained.
Their hard, sharp incisors were on par with antimatter alloys, able to pierce even tough exoskeletonsโwhat kind of cage could possibly hold them?
Nyx, what do I do now?
Clara asked in her mind, and as always, Nyx replied instantly.
[Leave the rabbit burrow and surrender to the humans.]
[But donโt go to Franโfind the resort staff.]
โฆChiu?
This suggestion was a little out of left field, and Clara didnโt quite get it.
[This is your chance to flush out the mole.]
So that was it.
If the Matriarch hiding among the staff saw her Moon Rabbits rebelling, she definitely wouldnโt be able to sit still and would show up in front of Clara.
But if she did that, these Moon Rabbits who followed her out would likely still end up dead.
Even if they survived tonight, theyโd be doomed tomorrow when the virus was released.
Looking at the rabbits before her, Clara felt a twinge of pity.
As bio-weapons of the Fourth Calamity, was there really no other path for them?
And after seeing those rabbit soldiers, Clara wasnโt sure if Franโs โrabbiticideโ would still work. For all she knew, above the soldiers, there could be rabbit generals, rabbit kings, or even a rabbit supreme commander.
Trying to wipe out this entire species with just a single dose of poison seemed a bit naรฏve.
[Time is short. Donโt hesitate.]
Sigh. Iโll just do as you say, then.
Following Nyxโs plan, Clara prepared to lead these Moon Rabbits to surrender to the security staff at the resort.
Even if they got locked up, as long as she had the chance to see the mole, that was enough.
As for these Moon Rabbits that followed herโif they managed to survive the night, she could think about what to do with them later.
Although their chances of survival were slim.
But if, by some miracle, they did survive, sheโd have to find a way to make them understand what she said; otherwise, theyโd be impossible to manage, and sheโd never know what they were thinking.
Who wouldโve thoughtโ
A simple nighttime stroll would land her as the leader of a squad of Moon Rabbits.
No, more like a rebel rabbit band, perhaps?
Whoโd have guessed so many misfits hid among the Moon Rabbits.
[This species is evolving rapidlyโnot just physically, but mentally too. Revolution, rebellion against authorityโฆ all inevitable in the march toward civilization.]
But their social structure isnโt enough to call a civilization yet, is it?
[Maybe, in a few years, improved Moon Rabbits settled at some lunar outpost will commemorate a mysterious pioneer who led them toward true civilization.]
Nyx was clearly joking, but Clara had no intention of becoming any kind of Moon Rabbit civilizationโs founder.
Right now, sheโd taken a white handkerchiefโwho knew where it came fromโtied it to a stick, and made a makeshift French flag.
Clara waved the flag, leading her dirty little Moon Rabbits toward the security post at the guest entrance.
Honestly, this was pretty risky.
After all the chaos today, the resortโs security staff were likely on edgeโthey might just shoot her on sight.
Sure, her sharp fangs were unmatched, but her personal combat strength was still limited.
As it turned out, Clara was overthinking it.
She reached the gatehouse, and the security guard inside didnโt even notice her.
โChiu! Chiu!โ
It wasnโt until she raised her voice and called out twice from outside the door that a fully armed security officer finally poked his head out.
Human and rabbit stared at each other for several seconds.
โMoon Rabbits! Moon Rabbits!โ
The guard fumbled with his gun, pointing it at her while yelling for his teammates.
Hey, was this guy just napping on the job until now?!
If Clara felt like it, she and her handful of Moon Rabbits could have easily taken out these slacking security guards.
No wonder Fran had so many complaints about themโthey really were unreliable.
The guard straightened his crooked cap and looked at Clara, who was waving her white flag.
โ.Hey, you guys, whatโs up with these rabbits?โ
