The Natives of this world are far more valiant than expected.
Even now, they are holding the line—yet so many Demon Emperors working together still haven’t managed to break through that turtle shell of theirs.
That alone is proof of the Natives’ strength.
“So, are we just aimlessly flying around in the sky?”
“No, I can sense the aura of a Black Calamity erupting in the distance. You should be able to as well.” Anxing clarified that she wasn’t just wandering; she was flying with a purpose.
A Demon Emperor’s senses were incredibly keen, and the Black Calamity’s aura was especially distinct.
She could easily catch its scent in the air.
In such a vast world, Black Calamities erupted every day, far too many to count. Most were Soldier Level or General-Class outbreaks.
Still, among the lower-ranked Demons, there might be those open to communication or cooperation, so it was still necessary to check them out.
“I think so… By the way, can’t we initiate a Black Calamity ourselves to create the subordinates we want?”
“…Can we?”
“Why not?” Luo Shuangyue’s eyes widened. Wasn’t that an innate skill of the Demon Emperor?
That big eyeball Demon Emperor, and all those Demon Emperors the Humans once encountered, hadn’t they all produced absolutely loyal minions?
Their armies always bore the same distinct characteristics—you could tell at a glance which Demon Emperor commanded them.
That’s why, nowadays, whenever a Demon Emperor appears on the Human side, they are quickly swarmed and beaten to death, making this situation much rarer.
But without question, Demon Emperors should possess this ability.
“I’m not really sure. But if we could, our senior wouldn’t have sent us to search for newly born kin.” Anxing shook her head. She didn’t know much about what Luo Shuangyue was talking about.
Her logic was simple: if it were that easy, the Demon Emperors would just bunker down somewhere and endlessly mass-produce soldiers.
Why bother roaming around recruiting?
Luo Shuangyue found her argument reasonable.
No matter how you looked at it, the Demons of this world weren’t stupid—if there was a shortcut, they’d take it.
There had to be a reason why they didn’t do it.
Maybe the Demons they created themselves lacked the spirit and essence of naturally born ones?
Luo Xiangyue couldn’t guess.
She still hadn’t found a convincing answer, even after following Anxing to the site of another Black Calamity eruption.
“What a pity, this one’s beyond communication.” Setting down the two girls she’d been carrying, Anxing gazed at the rampaging dark monster not far off and sighed.
Meanwhile, Luo Shuangyue stared, dumbfounded, at the creature before her, questioning whether she’d walked into the wrong scene.
Could someone please tell her what was up with this Nightmare Creature that looked exactly like an excavator?
Not only could Black Calamity produce humanoid Demons, it could also spawn mechanical ones?
Incredible.
At this point, Luo Xiangyue could confidently swear that the Demons of this world were absolutely connected to hers.
With humanoid Demons, Luo Shuangyue could still justify it with something like, “Maybe the Human form is the truth of the world.” But what about this excavator? Was the excavator also a truth of the world?
Impossible!
“So what do we do with this thing, just leave it?”
“Whatever. These kin just mindlessly attack everything nearby. Communication is impossible.” Anxing shook her head.
Among low-level Demons, these types were the majority.
She’d guessed the result as soon as she sensed what kind of Black Calamity this was, so she wasn’t disappointed.
With Soldier Level and General-Class Demons, the odds of a humanoid like Xiaozi appearing were about the same as winning the lottery.
Only at Wang-Class and above did the appearance rate of humanoid Demons jump up.
In other words, humanoid Demons were SSRs with less than a one percent drop rate, and there was no guaranteed pity system.
The main products from the “gacha” were these low-level cannon fodder Demons—if you’re not happy, don’t play.
“Then I’ll go eat it.” Luo Shuangyue couldn’t just ignore this General-Class Demon.
Sure, this was an uninhabited area long abandoned by the Natives, but as a defender of world peace, how could Luo Shuangyue stand by and watch a Demon destroy this land?
She wanted to be a good Demon, to step up bravely and wipe out this bad guy—then devour it entirely to strengthen herself!
It absolutely wasn’t because she needed to recover her strength quickly—she just wanted to do the right thing, honestly.
“Need my help?” Anxing wasn’t opposed to Luo Shuangyue’s plan; in fact, this was exactly in line with her own view of their kin.
Weren’t most of their unaffiliated kin like this? Whenever they saw a Native, they killed; even when meeting other Demons, it was still kill, kill, kill—until there were no living things left, then move on to the next area.
A Demon like Luo Xiangyue, who knew what could and could not be killed, was already rare.
As for talk of “kinship” or “not killing each other”—Anxing would never say such nonsense.
Frankly, who was really her kin? That mindless excavator Demon that knew nothing but destruction?
No, impossible. Her real kin were humanoid, communicative Demons like Luo Shuangyue and Xiaozi—not those big, dumb brutes.
So, she had no qualms about helping Luo Shuangyue kill the General-Class Demon to heal Luo Shuangyue’s injuries.
“If you’d like.” Facing Anxing’s olive branch, Luo Shuangyue wouldn’t refuse.
Who’d be stupid enough to turn down free help from a Demon Emperor?
After all, defeating a General-Class Demon on her own was still a bit too hard for her right now.
With Anxing’s intervention, things became much simpler. With a squeeze of the Star Spear in her hand, the Demon’s body stiffened instantly.
The weapon hadn’t even been thrown yet, and the target was already frozen in terror.
Luo Xiangyue quickly summoned Little Butterfly, sending her off to feast.
Faced with a Demon several stories tall, Little Butterfly opened her mouth, then realized her small mouth was simply not enough.
So she used the more elegant eating method Luo Shuangyue had taught her.
Black thorns surged from her outstretched hands, stabbing deep into the Demon’s body and transferring all its stored energy into her own.
Each thorn worked like a siphon, drawing out the Demon’s power at a frightening speed.
In just two minutes, the excavator Demon that had been lively moments before was sucked dry by Little Butterfly, leaving only a perfectly intact Royal-class Monster’s Core wrapped in black thorns, which returned to her hand.
Little Butterfly had no intention of saving it for later—once she got the core, she took a big bite, chewing up the Demon’s consciousness and magic, swallowing it all.
After she finished, she glanced longingly at Anxing before returning the body to Luo Shuangyue.
“You seemed like a different person just now?” Of course Anxing noticed the change.
Luo Shuangyue in “eating mode” was a whole other being compared to her usual self—the former was closer to the mindless low-tier Demons, while the latter was too much like a normal, non-Demon lifeform.
Combined, though, she seemed like a regular Nightmare Creature.
“That’s just my special situation—or you could say, special ability.” Luo Shuangyue didn’t hide her peculiarity.
After all, her companion was a Demon Emperor; acting weird wasn’t a problem.
Demons were inherently diverse and unpredictable—anything could happen.
Dual personality? No big deal.
“Oh, then let’s get going.”
As expected, Anxing didn’t probe further; Luo Shuangyue’s split personality was a minor quirk to her.
Having finished their snack, the three had to rush to their next destination.
After eating a Demon, Luo Shuangyue’s strength was partially restored, making her bold enough to refuse Anxing’s offer to carry her any further.
She insisted she could fly on her own now.
She beat her long-neglected Butterfly Wings, lifting smoothly into the air.
Controlling these wings felt instinctive, and she could easily pull off complex maneuvers in the sky.
Even more nimble than she’d been as a Magical Girl.
Anxing nodded slightly—one less person to carry was fine by her.
They took off again, searching for the next Black Calamity outbreak.
Once again, it was a brainless Demon, which Luo Shuangyue devoured as a midnight snack….
This cycle repeated five times.
Even Xiaozi got a Royal-class Monster’s Core shoved at her by Luo Shuangyue for a treat before they finally encountered a new, erupting Black Calamity.
