“Oh, oh, so this little girl isn’t your daughter? No wonder she doesn’t look much like either of you.”
Ye Xingyao and Yi Shiyue had to spend quite a bit of effort explaining before Old Uncle finally understood that the two of them were indeed lovers, but the little girl was their friend, not their daughter.
As they explained, Fumier, who had just realized she was the “daughter” Old Uncle was talking about, blushed so hard her little face turned bright red.
Big Sister Star Elf and Big Sister Moon Elf being her moms or somethingɉۢ
That didn’t sound so bad, did it?
Fumier followed dazedly behind the two young women, startled by her own completely illogical wandering thoughts.
When she came back to her senses, she realized she had fallen a bit behind them. Only then did she shake her head, as if trying to shake the strange thoughts out of her mind, and jogged a short distance to catch up with the young women’s pace.
“Hey, so Uncle Lin, you’re the Village Chief!”
Ye Xingyao exclaimed with some surprise. Earlier, she had assumed the old man was just being overly friendly when he approached them and offered to act as their guide.
She never expected this “Uncle Lin” to actually be the Village Chief here.
“Haha, it’s just a title, nothing more. If you keep walking ahead to that intersection up there, the first house on the left is Yilin’s place. I won’t walk you over.”
“Okay, thank you, Old Uncle!”
“Oh, right, Old Uncle, are you sure it’s fine to leave our car over there?”
Ye Xingyao asked with some concern. After all, that was also the main road into the village, and their car was blocking half of it. She figured it would probably be inconvenient for people passing through.
“It’s fine, it’s fine. The villagers don’t drive around here anyway, and hardly anyone visits our village. Just leave it there. It’ll save you the trouble of driving down the village’s rough roads and having to drive back up—that’d be a hassle.”
Old Uncle waved his hand and explained the situation while leaning on his cane.
“Alright, then thanks a lot, Old Uncle!”
“It’s nothing at all. No need to be so polite. Talking with you young folks makes me feel a good few years younger!”
With her silver tongue and adorable, radiant looks, Ye Xingyao had successfully won Uncle Lin’s favor. As they were about to part ways, she even gave him some gifts she had brought from the city. Yi Shiyue stood beside her, watching with a hint of emotion as the black-haired girl sent Uncle Lin off with a bright smile.
Xingyao had always been popular with the elderly, and one of the main reasons was her sweet tongue. But after she became a Hunter, she somehow developed a habit of doing everything alone, and it wasn’t until now that she had started to ease up a little.
“Xiaoyue? What are you spacing out for? Let’s go.” Ye Xingyao, who had walked a short way with Uncle Lin, jogged back and patted Yi Shiyue’s shoulder, snapping her out of her reverie.
“Mm, let’s go.”
Yi Shiyue nodded. Something else seemed to cross her mind, and a hint of redness crept onto her face as the smile at the corners of her lips grew more pronounced.
Yi Shiyue’s grandmother lived in a large courtyard enclosed by a square fence. The front gate was half open, and peeking inside revealed a house with a somewhat old-fashioned architectural style.
Only when they reached this place did Yi Shiyue seem to remember something. She instinctively pushed open the gate and stepped inside. Ye Xingyao lagged half a step behind, standing together with Fumier, watching the white-haired girl get lost in her memories, and smiled softly.
“Is Big Sister Xingyao happy?”
Fumier squeezed Ye Xingyao’s hand and asked curiously.
Even though she knew no less about facts and knowledge than they did, when it came to interacting with people and matters of emotion, she was like an uncarved piece of jade—so pure and innocent that it stirred feelings of tenderness in others.
“This is where your Big Sister Xiaoyue lived when she was little. She’s probably remembering something. Let’s not disturb her, okay?”
Ye Xingyao gently patted her head.
“Oh…”
Fumier nodded with a look of half-understanding, then nuzzled against Ye Xingyao’s palm.
Big Sister Star Elf’s hand was so warm and reassuring.
“Grandmother? Why are you sitting at the door?”
Yi Shiyue’s puzzled voice drew the attention of the two young women. The white-haired girl was standing somewhat dazed at the entrance of the house, seemingly talking with someone inside.
Ye Xingyao and Fumier also stepped into the courtyard. The former’s gaze swept past Yi Shiyue’s figure, searching for a look inside the house, while the latter was drawn to the objects in the courtyard that she had never seen before.
“Oh my, isn’t this my dear granddaughter? Come here, let Grandmother get a good look at you. Oh dear, look at how tall and beautiful you’ve grown in the blink of an eye…”
A middle-aged woman who appeared to be only in her forties or fifties walked out of the house. Her skin looked somewhat rough, and her features bore a slight resemblance to Yi Shiyue’s, though the temperament in her brow was far more mature.
Her long hair wasn’t the color of white strands, but rather a brilliant, beautiful hue as radiant as moonlight.
Compared to the image in Ye Xingyao’s memory, Yi Shiyue’s grandmother seemed to have regressed half a century in just a few years. The sudden contrast left even Ye Xingyao momentarily dazed.
Given the long lifespans of Elves, she supposed it wasn’t an impossible thing. But since Xiaoyue called her “Grandmother” in human society, she had used Disguise Magic to make herself appear aged. The woman stepped forward, caressed Yi Shiyue’s cheek in disbelief, and then hugged her tightly. The young woman returned the embrace, her voice trembling slightly.
“Mm, Grandmother, I’ve come back to see you.”
Yi Shiyue buried her head in the crook of the woman’s neck, holding tightly onto the only blood relative she had left.
“Good, good. It’s good that you’re back. Cheer up, now—you’re such a big girl. What’s there to cry about?”
Yilin of course also noticed the two girls outside the door—one with black hair, one with gold. By all accounts, she shouldn’t have left guests standing outside, but Yi Shiyue refused to let go no matter what. She offered them an apologetic smile.
“Alright now, do you want to keep letting your friends laugh at you? The Star Elf is our distinguished guest, and that child—she’s a Xingling, isn’t she? She’s grown up so much too. Why did she come with you as well?”
Yilin patted Yi Shiyue’s back to remind her. Her granddaughter being able to come home today was thanks to the school suspension, plus there was the matter of the Star Elf. Whether for public or personal reasons, she needed to properly thank the Star Elf young lady.
That golden-haired little girl was the Star Elf? She was so young. Her fair skin and large crimson eyes made her look like a Blood Elf—if not for the fact that Blood Elves all had white hair, Yilin would have had trouble telling them apart.
“Um… could you come explain this yourself?”
Only then did Yi Shiyue realize that the two young women outside were still watching. After composing herself, her pretty face flushed slightly as she released herself from her grandmother’s embrace. She turned around and looked at Ye Xingyao with a somewhat plaintive gaze.
“Ah… well, Grandmother, it’s been a while. I’m not Ye Xingling, I’m Ye Xingyao.” Ye Xingyao scratched the back of her head and stepped forward to explain.
